Say what you like about Eddie, he is the biggest promoter in the uk by far, he backs up his claims, he is very honest, isn't bitter and threatens to sue people every five minutes. I believe he debunked warren and Hennessy pretty thoroughly in this interview.
I love Hearn. Young, fresh, to the point and outright professional. He is the biggest promoter in the UK doing our boxers proud and so instrumental in putting British boxing on the map.
+Simon Devine BoxNation is a decent channel but the roster of fighters just isn't good enough. Last year Eubank Jr, Fury and Frampton were on the channel. Now even Chisora has gone. I would love BN to succeed but they are in desperate need of British boxers
+Lloyd Watters Your way off with that comment by the way. First off i want to say i like matchroom so im no hater but you only think that because you get to watch matchroom fighters on sky. Lets say sky worked with all promoters and lets say that all British fighters fought on sky sports matchroom wouldn't be as big as they are so they wouldn't have all the fighters they have and you would see a lot other boxers on a daily basis because matchroom get to raise a boxers profile because they have the outlet but if every fighter had that same outlet then they profiles would be just as high as Joshua and Crolla and Quigg and all the other well known matchroom fighters so matchroom is not the bee all and end all and boxing would still be in good shape without them and as i say maybe British boxing would be better if sky worked with all promoters.
+fredinabun ; yes that's why I think it's running the show because they have a partnership with sky..i watched frank warrens show and I didn't think it was great maybe because the fighters have low profiles I don't know..I agree all promoters should work with sky! but the man himself will have a say in that lol.
really like Kugsns interviews and what he does covering boxing on line.seems to have really good relationships with everyone in the game which brings the best out of them interview wise.....great work
I get the impression he doesn't want to work with the Eubanks (probably because of SNR) but can't help see the pound signs that come with junior's career
+Ben Lowe I can't see bjs giving Eubanks the rematch anytime soon. He says let Eubank go the WBA route but I feel that bjs thinks it's too risky for little reward. Bills joe wants the big money fights
But he is not going to be able to use his name in the states, this is where he is well known and the Eubank brand is strong and they are burning all their bridges, Boxnation and Matchroom in less than a year
Watched all of that : ) thank you very interesting. How good would it to have Hern and Warren in the same room having an interview. Could you make it happen boys???
So Sky and Eddie Hearn initially said no to the Fury Klitschko Nov 28th date because it was too close to Joshua's British title fight. Thats what Eddie just said. Then they had a rethink. Or were forced to have a rethink. That's a serious clash of interests. Bottom line - unified HW title fights shouldn't get delayed because of British title fights. In the end sense prevailed. But we obviously need another prominant PPV platform to help avoid ridiculous situations like this.
That's a prime example of why this exclusivity is a bad thing. it will be interesting to see what happens with the re-match. Will it be in the U.K on a matchroom card?
+Luis Carlos Hernandez what does mr hearn deliver? PIZZA? this man wants to charge LOTS of money for CRAPPY tacky boxing mis matches this why boxing has been DEAD for 16 years- people and poltiics of likes of mr hearn
+Luis Carlos Hernandez Because he says things like "I think Brook beats Mayeather Jr." and then manages to hold a straight face after saying it. lol. I think he is great, he is like Ricky Gervais in "The office" and these interviews are like an episode
+Luis Carlos Hernandez Because him having an "exclusive deal" with sky, is utter bollocks. It's ruining the boxing scene in the UK, there are so many people who don't want to work with Eddie... He's a rat and spews more bile than a bulimic alcoholic on chemotherapy.
+Chris McFarlane Easy be patient when you have Sky backing you. Although fair play to Eddie. He could sell a gift wrapped Turd to some British Boxing fans.
+Chris McFarlane he is also patient because he knows the Eubanks need money, the Dad is using his son's career to pay off his debts, that is why there is always an issue over money, because the Dad wants to get paid
Kugs is really developing the art of shit stirring and taking it new levels....don't get me wrong, I'm loving it, just hope he doesn't disengage those he is interviewing
+*unknown* i get that totally and i'm no fan of eddie hearn but thanks to IFL we get to see things like this interview that we wouldn't see otherwise. I want to see these interviews as it add's another perspective to things, may not like the person being interviewed but have to appreciate IFL's work
I think the Eubanks are just scared of the fights that Eubank Jnr will be expected to take in the future. That's why they are retracing their steps by going back to Blackwell for the British title. Whereas, if he remained with Matchroom, he would be expected to take a fight against Daniel Jacobs.
+Ben Lowe We won't, that's the thing. Brook is essentially a ppv fighter already, DeGale will co-headline a British ppv card in the USA along with say an AJ or Brook.
+Ben Lowe I can't see DeGale being on Sky's standard platform again unless he's fighting in America and its being screened here, why would he? He got 1.3 mil for fighting Bute in Canada... DeGale won't headline UK ppv unless he's co-headlining. Brook will fight IBF mandatory but no doubt it'll be on AJ card or something and it'll be ppv
Why was Hennessy and Fury not informed prior to this and why did the purse split not change after Brook was dropped from the card. I just think this monopoly Matchroom has been given over Sky has gone too far. Nothing against the stable but a competitive market is better.
Quite enjoy reverting back to these interviews. Although some of the specific fights etc he's mentioned never came to fruition, in a broader sense, he's delivered exactly what he said he would, and plenty more. Interesting to see what happens in the next 12 months though in terms of his SKY contract, as surely DZNE will be looking at entering the UK market soon. And I would happily pay 100 quid a year for all of that boxing content, let alone all the other sports they already have
Brilliant interview Eddie has integrity like his old man. Any up & coming fighters should watch this. His total honesty in his comment on if you believe in match room as your promoter is essential to understand how he & match room work. As a coach you feel every shot your fighters take, you build a relationship with them that allows you to get inside their heads to understand how they tick. This allows you to handle them accordingly. Eddie shows these attributes in this interview & comes across as genuine. Match room are undoubtedly the main boxing promotion company in the UK. People need to sit down listen to what’s on the table, think could I do this without them! Too many times fighters think they’re being stitched up only to find the grass wasn’t greener on the other side!! What your promoter gets for their work in building your profile is earned by them. Going it alone isn’t an option! So it’s better to go with the best & certainly when they actually have best interests at heart. Match room deliver 👍🥊🏴
So basically im reading this as.... if a UK boxer is not paying a percentage to matchroom they wont be able to box in a huge fight on these shores with another promoter ... Doesn't seem good for the sport and the prosect of undisputed world champions
kugan mate 30 second ads with no skip are you trying to kill your views or something. Going for the RU-vid ads AND the in video sponsorships you over spend this xmas or something
Where is the worldclass fighters on sky/matchroom though dont really feel like you ever cross that worldclass road.you hype them up something there not like campbell for example
+Kopend09 Depends on your definition of world class I guess but I define it as top 5 in your division. Maybe you could say the other 3 champions, Verdejo Barroso and Zlatincan are better but personally on their record I think Crolla deserves to be top 5.
degale struggled against bute who carl froch destroyed in 5 rounds and carl froch was still older then degale back then. Brook really??? porter is the better fighter beat broner and at world level means at lot more then Jojo dan and frankie gaving put together easy Mcdonnell.crolla, selby quigg nah not really if youre the best you'll fight the best not beat one then fight aload chumps after
Caroline Cooper what sweeping the floor after billy joe saunders, beats George groves, he's not committed enough,so much potential as well, but he's all about the hype and fame around boxing, patronizing trainers and trying to control everything, he'll never improve like that or get top people to work with him on a permanent basis, yeah you get the odd grumpy day with hard training, but you need to let the experts control you and trust to get better, a bit too premaddona ,to be as great as his dad
I agree with a great deal of what Eddie says but the PPV figures weren't just off the scale because of Anthony Joshua alone, if that was the only big fight on the night I wouldn't have purchased it. I paid the PPV money because of the entire card so he shouldn't get too carried away by linking the PPV viewing numbers with Joshua.
Eddie got the game by the balls but him being so humble is winding up the promoters even more. Y don't they just wrk with the man. Everyone will make "carrot". Fucking egos
Commenting as I watch I believe in Eddie Hearn you gotta want it both parties as songwriter and charity promoter I wish when I worked with promoters on big festivals that they would have eddies attitude there's always room for everyone to be successful in this life clearer heads need to prevail
The distinction you have to make is Sky SPORTS box office which Eddie and Sky box office. Other promoters can put shows on Sky box office but if they want to put it on sky sports box office it has to go through matchroom and I'm sure matchroom get a cut of the ppv etc.
Eddie hearn a very smart business individual. UK boxing has never been this exiting since the lennox lewis days. Uk boxing is being talked about and thats what matters. For sure some of the fights are not PPV material but people are interested and purchasing, so overall its a win win situation for boxing, the fighters, the promoters, the fans.
Matchroom got the Sky deal because they also bring darts, snooker and pool to Sky tv which like all channels is looking to fill airtime, its quantity over quality. Boxing isn't so big or popular due to Matchroom as lets face it without Sky tv exposure to the public Matchroom would be nothing. Before the Matchroom got the exclusivity deal British boxers were with lots of promoters especially Warren and Matchroom was actually quite weak, in fact they'd just started doing boxing again after having stopped doing boxing for many years, that's how keen they were on the sport. but with the Sky deal boxers jumped ship for the better earnings that exposure on Sky gives them. Boxers join for promoters for financial reasons and on a side note I haven't seen a bill by Matchroom that couldn't be done by another promoter with or without Sky exclusivity. Darts and snooker won Hearn junior this contract and some of the PPV shows have been laughably weak.
its all very pedantic. matchroom has an exclusive deal with skysports & skysports ppv. however they dont have sky box office which by offcom has to be a separate entity. therefore boxnation can stage ppv with sky box office (ie the providers of movies and wrestling) without interference from matchroom who are skysports ONLY!!!
Always a good listen Eddie, I think you have PPV fights and PPV fighters and there is a big difference, there are very few PPV fighters but lots of PPV fights, I believe AJ is a genuine PPV star but Brooke and DeGale unless they are in mega fights or unification bouts I can't see them doing the numbers
Eddie, Frank, Mick Hennessey & Kelly Maloney all around a table just 'shooting the breeze' would be simply 👌. Cmon Kugan, if anyone can make this happen it's YOU my friend
Correct me If I'm wrong. Tyson Fury will not be able to box on Sky Sports again, unless Eddie Hearn is involved in the negotiations? Sounds like Matchroom got one hell of a deal with Sky Sports. Boxing on channel 5 isn't quite the same as Sky Box Office!
eddie hearn thinks we are stupid. Boxnation can have a ppv event on sky just not on sky sports. sky distribution (the umbrella company) are a different company to sky sports
+monkeymagic436 He needs 10 x as many marquee names in his stable before the subscription service can be justified, let alone PPV! Who are his main fighters? Billy Joe Saunders, Terry Flanagan and Liam Smith? BJS is the only one with any charisma
