Stanwyck was robbed of an Oscar more than once. I think because she was a freelancer - not tied to any studio like Davis, Crawford, and Hepburn. She really should have gotten one for this classic. The scene in the car with her in the backseat. Her eyes are so mesmerizing. She conveys so mischievous of her character with her eyes in that scene. Missy could do anything: drama, Noir, comedy.

Best Film Noir ever!!!! Amazing movie. Awesome narrative techniques. A film relevant to the history of cinema and culturally relevant. I have the personal ritual of seeing her at least once a year.

Carlos, you said it perfectly...this is the Babe Ruth of Film Noir, and the introductory remarks by the best historian of Noir out there, Eddie Muller does such perfect justice to the film itself... I never ever tire of seeing this true masterpiece...

Double Indemnity was without a doubt one of the best however I am a fan of so many. I was born in 1936 so the 40’s & 50’s were my era both for Film Noir and the Golden Age of Radio. I am still a huge fan of both. I love Eddie Mullers Film Noir Alley and never, ever miss it.

Double Indemnity is one of the few films I try to watch at least once a year. And I usually pick up some small detail I hadn't noticed before!

Eddie's introductions are better than the movies.

My two favorite films are, "Double Indemnity," and, "Remember the Night." MacMurray and Stanwyke are gold together.

10/10 film - acting, story, dialogue, cinematography. Probably the best noir. Wilder also made another superb noir called Ace in the Hole, where he shifts noir elements to sunny New Mexico and follows a washed up hack exploiting a caving accident for personal gain. It is probably the most cynical, bitter, excoriating vision of American society ever made, years ahead of its time.

Hi - agree with you 100% about the two movies you mention. For the record Wilder made two additional classics you may love (if you have not seen already). Firstly his wonderful expose of the Hollywood underbelly in "Sunset Boulevard" and also the great Charles Laughton in the classic British (based) Noir 'Witness for the Prosecution'. If you are from the UK you may appreciate the last one in particular! All four movies are up there with the all time greats! Quite a legacy.

@@paulus7041 ah yes, two great films. There's a bunch of other Wilder's I need to see

@@paulus7041 Yes. Agree with you that Witness for The Prosecution is one of the great pictures. Pretty hard to make a bad picture with Charles Laughton in it anyway.

Watch Stanwyck's face in the car when her husband says he'll be back by Tuesday at the latest, as Macmurray crouches in the back seat, waiting to strangle him!

It's strange Eddy, I love your show and I like Double Indemnity but I just didn't think it was as good as you felt it is, mainly because I thought Fred MacMurray's acting was stilted and it just seemed to be overworked on the script and lost a lot of initial tension it could have had otherwise, and for once - for me who is a great Barbara Stanwyck fan - I thought her impetus - timing in her acting was a bit wasted. Still, it's a pretty good film though I think I'd put a couple of Alan Ladd's films ahead of it - and Gloria Grahame's. Just a matter of personal taste. Did you see Cry Wolf with Barbara Stanwyck? ( and Errol Flynn? ) A film not much commented on?
