Hey me and my brother would listen to this song on the radio in my dad's van whenever we went to visit ours cousins in Ottawa Ontario it was the perfect road trip song travelling on the highway.
@@devindavis2791makes it so much funnier imagining Eddie thinking about winning the bet and then thinking about Richard Pryor watching this when it came out losing his shit 😂
I found this song about 19 hours ago and it's dominated my thoughts ever since. I can't help but replay it over and over. It makes me further mesmerized by Eddie Murphy and his incredible range. From Beverly Hills to Daddy Day Care. From singing in Shrek to suddenly getting transported to the 1980s for this masterpiece. It compelled me to research more about Eddie's life in the 80s. I think he is truly the most talented man in Hollywood for his generation and the next and possibly even beyond. This man is a national treasure and a timeless classic.
Right?!? Me discovering this for the first time ever in GTA 5 was a wonderful surprise. 😌 Expected, given how GTA games have many great songs, like their developer's namesake, "Rockstar," with familiar and new-to-me jams all throughout them, but still, finding out it's Eddie *too* is the icing on the fresh cake.
This is the best living document as to how popular Eddie Murphy was. He had already crushed stand up comedy and SNL so hard that he went to movies. Then he crushed movies so hard that they’re like “hey you should hop on this Rick James track” and then he knocks this out of the park. Eddie Murphy in the 80’s was on another level
@@PreDatoR1873 “Dawg I use to know this little broad that lived right around the corner from Vincent’s deli, off Beach Blvd, She’d give me a rock of blow the size of ya left nut for thirty dollas, then I’d eat her muffler and take a bus back down 59th high as kite, tremendous “
When I was in the Air Force in the mid 80's a guy and I were singing this together. He was singing lead and I was singing the higher part. After we were done he said, "Man Van, you sing pretty good for a white guy". lol
He got CHOPS. And if there was ever any doubt (which this song should have been proof enough), he OWNED his part in Dreamgirls. He not only sings good Pop, but he is a very apt stage singer. Eddie can sing. Period.
Unless you were there, it CANNOT be understated what a MEGASTAR Murphy was. He effortlessly conquered stand up comedy, TV, movies, and music all in damn near the same time frame. He was truly larger than life.
He was secretly a race car driver with all that damn leather on. Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha I’m throwing shade. I’m H8ing on him. Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha We should call him the Grand Slam hitter. P. S. Even the H8ers back in the day were tapping their feet under the table all the while they were mean mugging.
@@fabioabballe7434 and -fun fact- he hooked up with Scary Spice from the Spice Girls in the 1990s. Had a kid he denied for a while. And despite a long romantic life post Eddie and a lotta hate on him for not fessing up to being the baby daddy. In her recent book she still says he was basically a living party who was on another level to everyone else, no regrets.
Am 63. I got a 12 .year old daughter. She asked me what kind of songs I listened to back when I was growing up. First, I told her I was older than Google and cell phones. I put all the songs from the great years of the 80s she couldn't believe the song we had. It was one of the songs I put on one of the best songs of many from the 80. I told her the songs from now suck.
People today have literally 0 clue how absolutely massive Eddie Murphy was back in 80's. He wasn't just superstar, the was the superstar of superstars, he was the one superstars aspired to be. Basically as big as anyone could ever be. What a legend.
You are wrong. We were all racist in the 80's. It was white people everywhere. It's only now that black people are sucessfull and recognised. Same for women and gay people. Nothing has existed before the 2020 ... according to "them". LGBT, BLM bullshh... What a fckin sad and poor era we are living in right now. Full of division, censoring, canceling. I am glad I am from the 80's.
I’m just a 96’ baby so I didn’t knew this existed but I already loved his movies now I find out he was kicking ass in the studio as well wow Eddie Murphy is the GOAT 🐐
Well I think he did a good job, I bet with the right ppl behind him he might have made a decent record or two maaaaybe a hit single. Not gone lie he sounded a lot better than some who spent yrs singing
2024, today years old finding out Eddie Murphy was the one who sung this! I liked it at the time but was quite young and probably never saw the music video.
After watching an episode of My wife and kids when junior sings this so his baby, so it will stop crying, has brought me here to hear the original version 😅
You would think the video would be about a girl who likes to party all the time. Instead, it’s about Eddy Murphy nailing a hit single on the first take the moment he walks into the studio.
@@HowlingMoonCinemas as a song writer, (I know I’m nobody) but tbh it is very easy to memorize songs. I memorize songs word for word , that I wrote when I was 12.
Haider B facts I played that game for about 4 months straight last year lol even got the Easter egg where it says you are scarface and all the girls followed me after the whole time lmao
I’ve been on this planet for 35 years now and only this morning did I learn that this absolute banger was sung by Eddie Murphy. Mind = well and truly BLOWN.
Damn this was a great song. I forgot all bout it. Glad to be reminded. Love this song ! I know all the old people say this but man music. Just isn’t the same anymore meaning not even close to the same quality and not necessarily talking about this song but man a ton of amazing music came out in tue 80’s and them bam the 90’s took off and ran with it although in a different amazing direction. Wow… we were lucky 😎
This song reached No2 on the Billboard Hot 100 for 3 weeks in a row. I just remember the song would come on and all of the sudden the dance floor would be full! Good times.
Will Smith is actually the one who made the best song ever. "Wild Wild West" is a classic. This, meh. Or maybe I'm thinking of a Tupac song? Yeah, I'm definitely thinking of Tupac.
The reason is the 80’s was full of artist advances in video making, and using music that was hot created a nostalgic atmosphere of “the way to make videos”. It became cliche and that’s why we had the 90’s until 90’s was cliche.. that’s why we’re in 2023 and there’s so much music now. We even have country trap like Jamie ray “yeet yeet” HEX coin $0.024 PZEN coin $0.0026
Not sure if Eddie originally took this song seriously. He probably regarded it as a kind of novelty or even a joke. But he completely knocked it out of the park with this song. One of the best celebrity turns at music in the last 50 years
@@JuicedCazyD No, he actually won. That song was made to resolve that bet. Richard Pryor claimed that Eddie had no singing talent, so he bet $100k that Eddie won't be able to record a listenable song. Eddie took the bet and responded with that smashing hit, which reached number two on the Billboard Hot 100 for three weeks.
@@20blockrecords54yeah and a huge reason I believe he hated it was the fact that people are wondering this “Rick is singing with comedians now?” It doesn’t help that nobody believed Eddie could do it at that level
before GTA made, this song is popular and more well-known. I discovered this song and fell in love with it and practiced enough that I whipped it out at a karaoke bar and completely killed it. My friends did like this song and my performance so much that couple months on at a different karaoke bar, my friend did the song and tried to imitate my performance at first I was like what biting my style kinda irritating, but then I realized how flattering it was. Good times
