Really? Michael Keaton, Ralph Fiennes (who unfortunately was overlooked by the Academy), David Oyelowo (same here), Andy Serkis and Jake Gyllenhaal would all be undeserving then? And even if you only talked about the ones who got actually nominated, Keaton surely gave an Oscar-worth performance, no?

Michael Keaton made an exceptional performance. But that will not be the only reason why he will win this year's oscar for best actor, but because it's his comeback. The academy sure LOVES comebacks.

Tom Waits Jake Gyllenhaal was also overlooked by the Academy.. I was surprised he wasn't nominated over Bradley Cooper. And concerning OP... you're talking out your ass if you think Redmayne is the only deserving one of the Oscar this year. Look at Michael Keaton for fuck sake.

I've heard him tell this story on at least 3 different chat shows, he's like an annoying grandpa telling the same story over and over and as soon as I hear the words 'the first time I met Stephen', i'm like 'zzzzzzz'.

The theory of everything was the first film I saw Eddie in and was immediately turned into a die hard fan because it was so extraordinary. I also love him in Les miserables, the danish girl and Fantastic Beasts, I'm a huge Harry Potter fan and Newt Scamander is my favourite figure in the HP universe. Eddie was perfect to play him and I find it fascinating how he captures the personality of his characters through fascial expressions and body movements, each one seems to have a special physicality, it's so amazing

No, in another interview he said he hadn't watched it on purpose so not to influence is own portrayal but he was looking forward to watching it after everything had calmed down.
