Chris Bullock I don't know you call "enjoy" but those two looked like they were enjoying the hell out of that song. I thought they were really good on the music!
+Chris Bullock As you know , many in the USA and elsewhere have to feel like they have to do countless patterns in order to partner dance. I know Eddie Torres JR could easily freestyle and dance away separately from the girl, but I don't know if she would feel comfortable. You have to read what your partner is willing to do, so maybe is why he held on to her and just did patterns. The pair behind them felt comfortable with each one of them doing their own thing. Different strokes for different folks but I think both of them enjoyed the dance.
observation .. do new york dancers listen to the bass ? clearly marking the `and ` and the 8 (in particular) in this record since it is a 2-3 clave..surely the bass and the conga go together musically ?
there are many styles to dance "salsa"... NY Style is supposed to be "On6"... LA Dancers, dance On1, Puertoricans On2, and the Source of the "salsa" in Cuba, dance On1 for "Timba" and "setback" for "Son"... @foxfire1112 we need to react to all the music, but in count, every place have their own style...
I've danced around the US and a few places around the world. In the US at least, New York dancer are the best hands down. After all 'salsa' is from there! But really everytime I dance there, unlike any place in the US, I feel the freedom, just pure sweat and dance! They don't give much of a fuck about how they dance or how you dance. They just have fun with it! And yet, they dance so so much better than anywhere else! It's just that there's so much quality there, and the music is absolutely amazing, you can't but dance well!! And the music!! They have great taste!! I live in a smaller town, I can't tell you the crap I hear passing for 'salsa.' people can hardly dance to it, and then they say salsa is hard or difficult! It's not difficult if you do it to the music it was meant to be done to!!! Not everything that's sung in Spanish is salsa!!
Nice description, but with all respect... the "salsa" is came from Cuba... in US are many styles for dance salsa, like NY Style or LA Style, even PR Style, but dont forget the history and where the name "salsa" comes from... the most "salsa" that you listen in US is Latin Jazz or mambo, take a look to the "timba" and see dancers like Maykel Fonts, Yoandy Villarrutia from cuba, or terry Tauliaut from the other side of the world...
I was actually talking about only NY style salsa or "mambo" only. I had in mind only those places and people who dance this style around the US and the world. i cant compare mambo style to Cuban. thats apples and oranges. what i was saying is that of all the mambo places I've seen around the world so far, i like NYC the most. and dancers like eddie jr. exemplify why i do. and, really, i think any serious mambo dancer around the world will tell you NYC is the place to be for mambo, period. no questions asked! i can't speak for other styles of salsa. my guess for Cuban would be Cuba obviously. LA? LA, i would say. etc.
