@@Anonymous71892it’s so weird how most classic rock musicians couldn’t make even a minor hit after 1995. There’s still demand for their genre of music but they can’t seem to do it.
@@stoplookingformyname3721 Bro what? How dare you say Wolfgang has no talent? He was IN Van Halen for over 10 years. And he is now a Grammy Nominated Rock Artist in his own band mammoth. he played every instrument on the record he did. how can you call that no talent?
I think one reason that Eddie has survived all these years in the music biz is because of the strong relationship he has with his brother and drummer Alex.
Eddie was such a guitar genius. He was doing things that other musicians weren't doing and didn't know how to do. He was so talented and amazing. He passed away too soon.
will say it a million times, and mean it everytime Being a guitarist myself, I know what EVH was to me. Everyone else here knows what he meant to them. You can throw out all the superlatives you want about The Master, but there is never going to be an argument about his mastery of his chosen art. No else had players around the planet going "What the F is that". From his grin to his fingers Eddie was born to bring us joy through his expression of his art, and you can thank whatever god you believe in that he shared his joy with us. ALWAYS #1 UNPARALLELED. When the master emerged, from the opening chords of you really got me, every player knew the sonic landscape was changed in a way that was unheard of up to that time. Eruption smashed his foot onto your throat daring you to try to emulate him. No one can. There was never anyone like him, and there will never be another, and I miss his artistry.
Eddie still seems pretty down to earth considering the life he's led, the experiences he's had, the money he's made, and the praise that's been lavished upon him. I'm a guitarist who's been playing for almost 40 years, and I've obviously never hit the big time. It's probably a good thing, because if I had, I'd probably be dead by now. I dearly love my wife of over 30 years, and if I had been a rock star, I'd probably be divorced by now. Fame really takes a toll on you, not that I know from experience. Anyone who's been in the limelight for as long as Eddie has, and survived, and cleaned up their life, deserves major kudos. He even had the class to attend former wife Valerie Bertinelli's wedding to someone else. Anyone who does that can't be all bad, even though he's obviously made many mistakes along the way. Eddie, keep fighting the good fight, bro.
It's contrary to Sammy Hagars POS book RED . His book was supposed to be about himself BUT he used it as an unfair smear campaign against the Halen Bros . They never screwed him over . Sam said something to really piss Eddie off trying to be leader of the band literally . Big mistake . He tried to paint a picture that he was all about the money . Most people don't know Eddie did promotion work for Kramer Guitars FOR FREE . Kramer's profit margin was small because of the inclusion of the Floyd Rose Tremolo . Eddie worked with Kramer for free to keep the price down .
@@stoplookingformyname3721 Everybody has some talent. There is no such thing as no talents. Talent has to be developed through hard work. Because of the ease of information especially U-tube we are now in a place where there is a huge amount of talent emerging very quickly.
Sobriety and clean living has re-lit the gleam in Eddie's eyes. It's nothing short of a miracle. He has that youthful energy again and seems genuinely happy.
I understand and respect his/family privacy, but his story of getting sober in 2007 is a beautiful story, and maybe his greatest gift to others. A lot of people do not realize how much he struggled .He wrote and played under the influence for his entire career. I would think that having all of that success under those circumstances would make it SO difficult to find sobriety. It would take great courage to change after years of being put on a pedestal under the influence of all sorts of things. Your are totally right, you can see the light in his eyes
I am watching this in the remembrance and honor of Eddie Vanhalen who passed in October of 2020 he is sooo missed, such a legend ❤🎸❤👑🎶🎵❤ today is February 29, 2024 still sad with tears that he is not in this world anymore ❤❤❤❤❤anymore
During this interview, I gained so much respect for LL Cool J. I think eloquence, articulation and profundity are lost arts on their own in this era, and to see them all together in one man, is truly astounding... And he managed to do it while talking to Piers Morgan for Christ's sake...
Ed had had a lot of treatment for his throat cancer which caused quite a bit of the grovel in his voice (moreso than the smoking). The removal of part of his tongue from the cancer also causes a "slight" slur in his speech on occasion.
@@coldwinter5710 yes , not to mention he had to have all of his teeth removed due to treatment and to lower the risk of the cancer spreading to the marrow in his own teeth...
LL , my appreciation for you keeps growing. Peace man. Ed, your a legend that has all guitarist new and old in your debt. To both of you, on behalf of all thanks for your contributions to the world.
This interview would have been 1 billion percent better if it would have been ll cool j and eddie together by themselves talking together without the news reporters
I've been playing guitar for a LONG time… EVH is the best there is ..the best there was . and i don't think the world will EVER see another guitar player like him… SURE there are many faster and mind blowing tech. players out there. BUT what makes him the best is his mind.. his style is the best .. creativity is what he is BLESSED with… when i learn to play a song.. all the players are the same.. BUT EDDIE is so outside the box… ROCK ON BROTHER YOU RULE!
SilentKnight43 put it on Michael Jackson's too but it's bullshit because he he's from the arrow wear Rock was dominant and the rockets were getting a lot of shit from the wiggers
Eddie is great, its a shame that he hasn't been healthy. I miss the good music back Pre-1990- the music industry really went to pot in the last 25 yrs.
scott harrison I don't know why you did this stupid shit this like Sammy Hagar doing a song with DMC. Jimmy Page getting on stage with puffy. A lot of people hated that they hated when Run-DMC did that Aerosmith song felt that ruined it. And Eddie's from the era where the Rockers were taking a lot of shit you know right after say in the late 80s early 90s why I don't believe in this rock rap stuff.
God Ed was so humble he never ever thought of himself as “great” but he was so wise never let it get to his head but he was GRAND! Miss you Eddie rock heaven 🎸🙌🏻🤘🏻👏🏻😇
I LOVE how Eddie is always about to refer to the vocals as "singing" but then refrains because he probably remembers in his head that there is no singing in rap so he then just refers to it as "the vocals". Perfect example is at about 1:45
This interview had me totally engrossed - I'm more interested in the music of Eddie Van Halen than LL Cool J, and, I wasn't even aware that they'd collaborated to make this record. It's ten years ago now, but, it's still got to be checked out. Thanks for making me conscious of it and for uploading the video.
Woohooo!!! LL love conquers all. Love it! People need to realize the only person you're hurting when u have an issue, any issue, is you're hurting you! The 2 most powerful energies are love and fear, everything is a derivative of those two energies. Fear is man made love is god made and it's the only truth in this world! Bless you guys for spreading this! 🙏
One of my first guitar heroes and one of the most innovative rock guitarrists of all time. Such a great influence on all the guitar players after him. Wish there would have been a G3 with Edward Van Halen, Joe Satriani and Steve Vai.
All the love to Eddie and his health. Great interview, the guy makes me laugh I love that and I can't even mention what his music and playing has done and still does for me.
I forgot to say "LL' very cool guy and thank you for saying the wonderful words of wisdom. I love your messages and always have. Stay great peeps and in the laughter.
Eddie got me to playing guitar. He is the most unique rhythm guitar player in history. He just never played the same song over on any album. His solos weren't always as innovative, but his songwriting is beyond superior. His whole career is just fantastic.
I agree. His solos are iconic and memorable. And perhaps even more important are the hooks. So many, Beautiful girls, bottoms up, I'm the one, unchained, etc. etc. etc. Almost every single Van Halen song from those first five records is instantly recognizable within a couple of notes or even less.
Eddie Van Halen will always be the most important guitar player of my generation . I am 55 years old . Not only is Eddie revered beyond belief . He seems to have gotten his personal life together . I have the utmost respect for him . Warts and all !
Same here. I don't like some of the things that have happened, such as the unreconciled falling out with Sammy, and how Van Halen III ended, but Eddie seems to be a fantastic individual overall.
I remember as a kid when Beat it came on, I looked forward to that guitar solo…it made that song so cool. I did not even know who Eddie Van Halen was…but I knew that song was special because of the guitar solo.
Ed Van Halen seems like a genuine nice person plus a phenomenal guitarist. Eddie, LL Cool & many like them have found the way to keep feeling young, keep feeling good. Do what you love. Love what you do!
Considering all Eddie has been through (self inflicted and not) I think he looks pretty freakin' great! Don't forget he is pushing 60 and has had lots of oral surgery.
Eddie looks healthy and happy in this interview. I saw him in 2012 at the Boston Garden and he played incredibly well. One of the best ever, even though he took the entire decade of the 2000s off.
It was not a great decade for Ed. He was diagnosed w/cancer in 2000 & went through treatment for that. Valerie separated from him in 2001 after he refused to stop smoking. After this his drinking really increased & he had a hard time with it. Finally got sober for good in 2007/2008. God Bless EVH 🎸
Heaven is blessed to have Eddie as an angel in their flock..... Rest in peace Eddie Van Halen Eindelijk in Jezus armen Knuffels en zoentjes van Katrinka, San Francisco Bay Area ❤️🌴
You know.. I am an up north country music lovin' hillbilly. I am not into rap music, but I love LL. His character is so genuine. He seems like a guy who I would consider a friend. Keep it up buddy. Eddie is a guitar god, what more is to be said.
WOW, I think it's great that these 2 guys are collaborating on a project! But it is very sad that there are so many haters and shallow minded people out there!!
He looked so much better in 2015 until his time of passing , he looked worn out here. He is sorely missed for sure , thank goodness we have Wolf around to keep his Dad's legacy alive.
