Eddie built that guitar himself from the ground up. He said there were no guitars that could do what he wanted so he made one himself. This particular one has a Kramer brand neck but that was only because at the time Eddie endorsed the company. The rest of the guitar he built. He also designed his own amps and the ones available now are considered some of he finest on the market.

for the guy asking "is that guitar custom made?", Eddie built that guitar from scratch. well not exactly scratch but he bought all the parts and assembled it himself and the paintjob was also done by him. Also you just witnessed the best guitar player to ever exist at the peak of his powers. He was blackout drunk to the point he doesn't even remember this night. That should tell you all you need to know. RIP King Edward.

For those who are saying Eddie built this guitar, he did not build this one as such. It’s a Kramer copy of the original Frakenstrat. Which Ed made from factory seconds fender parts. Ed had Kramer build this guitar to his liking. But it’s not “the” franky

Yes, Eddie built that guitar himself for under $200 bucks. However, the crazy atmospheric sounds are being generated by his hands and creativity, not any special effects built into the guitar. His custom built guitar is actually very simple, electronically......but perfectly adjusted to sound like no other guitar before it.
@MachuPicchu83
@MachuPicchu83 2 года назад
Not entirely. The "atmospheric" sounds come from electronic effects devices, either pedals or rack units. For example, the entire Cathedral section could not be performed without a delay effect. There's also a flanger effect there which gives it that swirly sort of sound.

The guitar is known as Frankenstein or Frankenstrat. And it’s probably one of the most iconic guitars ever and only god knows what it’s worth. I know David Gilmore (Pink Floyd) allowed one of his to be auctioned off for charity and it brought in over a million. He’s still alive. So again the sky is the limit on what this guitar is worth. There is a replica in the Smithsonian and I was privileged to get to hold the actual one he’s playing once. They were at Hard Rock Cafe before a concert sighing autographs it was on display and I asked him if I could hold it and he actually let me! It should probably go in the Smithsonian instead of the replica. This guitar is a national treasure and it’s probably as famous as him. Oh. He built the guitar himself. Only the bridge pickup worked so when he hits the switch it turns the pick up off and on giving it the violin sound. I could get into more detail about it. But he built it essentially for a few hundred bucks 🤣

Yes the guitar is custom. He built it himself. This is just one of the many things that puts Eddie on the top of the list of guitarists. His innovation. The ability to say..this guitar isn't making the sounds I need it to, so I'm going ro change it and rebuild it until it does. It's not just his technical prowess on the guitar, but even more so his musical sensibility. His brain just worked different than the rest of us. True and total legend and this was a great tribute. In addition to completely reinventing guitar playing he reinvented the instrument, the amp and various effects. There has never been another who has had such a complete, game changing impact on their instrument. I hear people talking how he was the best after Hendrix and I laugh.....he was so far ahead of Hendrix in terms of his impact and anyone else for that matter. A game changer like no other

Back in '95, I just started dating a girl at the beginning of the year. We were both in our early 20s. About a few months later I brought her to a Van Halen concert in Sacramento. This was her first rock concert. Ever. She was into Latin music and pop. I remember her telling me she didn't know what to expect, but thought rock shows were just loud noise.....from what her friends told her. I looked over to see her huge smile during Eddie's solo. And also during Alex's drum solo. She was totally blown away and became a rock fan from that point on.............and that was also a great night for both of us! I mean really great into the morning. Van Halen! Thank you.

He also used parts that had nothing to do with guitars and it worked. The guitar manufacturers listened to his improvements and started making guitars the way he made his guitar.

That was his guitar. All his. There was an interview with his wife Valerie Bertanelli who said he couldn’t rehearse that solo. He knew what he wanted to throw in to it and some were riffs from his songs and some of the ones he loved, but no rehearsal. He was so amazing as was his brother as well. Didn’t care for the music after DLR left because it just wasn’t Van Halen anymore to me. I didn’t care for Sammy Hagar before Van Halen, but he owes all his success to those brothers. Eddie and Alex are legends of rock music and it’s so sad to see a replacement come in and take away what made them who they were, but it didn’t mean Eddie and Alex didn’t fight back about it to Hagar a lot. I’m so glad as a music lover that I was able to see them together as a full band when I was 6 but I remember everything about it. Never saw them with Hagar.

I saw them a month later in Houston Sept.29. I have ran into several people over the years who admitted to being at the Houston concert that night, for one reason or other, and each said they were blown away. The violin effect is done controlling the volume nob turning it up and down while the other hand is pressing the note.

Eddie played at hie gain and distortion he controlled the humming of the single coil pickups with the volume knobs

Except he isn’t using a single coil pickup and only ever has in studio and that’s a rare occasion

I cannot imagine anyone going who didn't know Van Halen, or Eddie's talent but I suppose it's possible. I saw them during this tour and yes - this part was mesmerizingly good. He credits Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin with giving him the "tapping" guitar technique he was well known for. Eddie also has the sweetest smile ☺️ and just looks so happy with his best friend in his hands, the "Frankenstrat" ❤️ He is sorely missed.

He's using the sound volume instead of a pic. He uses his left hand to up and down the neck and he's timing with his right hand turning his volume knob up and down.

Actually the guitar picks have the band and the player's names on them. I have at least a dozen... Kiss, Boston, Styx, Eagles. Eddie helped create the nut lock system that allow the deep wham Bar dives without taking the guitar out of tune.

You're thinking of a slide guitar which still uses picking but also a metal tube on the finger to slide across the neck.
