Eddington Portable Digital Radio by Majority - Review by Gerald Main 

I live in Belgium and this radio, Majority Eddington, is not available in stores here. I had to order it via Amazon. I also have a Sony XDR-P1DBP, which is about the same size as the Eddington. The Sony XDR-P1DBP does not have a Bluetooth function. Which is nice nowadays and will certainly appeal to young people. Both devices have a reasonable autonomy, plus / minus 10 hours at average volume level with a full battery. But the Sony is more expensive than Majority Eddington. The Majority has a color display, while the Sony has a simple LCD display. Both devices have a surprisingly good sound reproduction, given the compact dimensions. DAB+ is quite good here in Flanders. There are no (music) stations with a bitrate lower than 80. There are a lot of stations that use a bitrate of 96 kbs, which is pretty decent in aac. Hopefully this standard will be maintained, which guarantees a very good sound reproduction. Needless to say, I hardly ever listen to FM again, also because the range of stations on DAB is much wider than in FM. The sound reproduction in DAB+ at current bitrates is better than in FM, more detailed reproduction, better channel separation (stereo) and interference-free. This is especially noticeable if you listen via headphones. Both the Sony and the Majority give a good stereo signal to the headphone output. In my cars I use the Lenco DAC-100 adapter to receive DAB+, with very good results. So I completely succumbed to DAB+ I am very satisfied with the Majority Eddington, although I may not use it every day, it is very handy to carry around.

Thank you for the review! I note that the main display is identical to my Pure Elan S3 (a bigger radio), so I'm guessing this unit is part of the same family of radios. I have to say it's a very elegant & compact design, my only reservation is regarding battery replacement. The sound from my Pure is OK (but not exceptional for speach) and sounds noticeably better when fed from the auxiliary input, so the smaller speaker on this unit may actually be better!

This is a superb device. I've even bought a second one, but had to get it from Ebay as Amazon have already sold out of them.

I like the majority of that radio.

Does anyone happen to know if the battery is replaceable? Also if at home are you best to keep the radio plugged in or does this damage the battery? Instructions do not cover this.

I am considering buying this unit and happy with all the features presented, except that when I am outside, I prefer to put the unit in a backpack, and use headphone rather than the built-in speaker as output, my question is, will the headphone wire act as an antenna if plugged in to the radio, thanks

We dont have DAB in Sweden. It was a flop here. I have a DAB receiver just in case. Do this radio have wifi so i could connect it and listen to english stations?
