A demo of the new version of the 8 step sequencer I designed.
The sequencer has an Offset feature to transpose the sequence up or down 3 octaves. It can also be clocked externally. But it is a simple design so don't expect miracles from it ;)
Complete instructions for how to build this for your modular synthesizer can be found on my website:

Amazing to see how it works. And you just use your hands without a mouse on a computer to get some cool results. The handwritten information makes it also very unique.

Thanks Sven! Yes this is the real deal. ^___^ 1970's synthesizer technology. All analog and actually not that difficult to build

@@EdEditz I bet I still would get it wrong when building it up by myself, haha.

@@BattlefieldDoktor Yes you do have to have some knowledge of electronics otherwise it will become a very difficult hobby very quickly :p

Do it, it's a very easy project to make and loads of fun to use. :)

Where do you get your panel material from? And what material is it? Love your work and website and equipment by the way 🤩🙏🏼I also live in the Netherlands

I use 1,5mm powdercoated aluminium for my panels. I get it cut in strips of 20cm by 1 meter. You can get it here: www.aluminiumopmaat.nl/platen-in-ral-kleuren/gelakte-aluminium-plaat-ral-7021.html

Hi Eddy, first of all great stuff on your webpage. I was wondering if you could help me with something. I just finished building this 8 step sequencer using CD40106 and CD4017. Is there a way to add a switch that reverses the CD4017 counting steps? So that the sequencer is able o play backwards as well? your help is very appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Thanks very much for your kind words. It's much appreciated! As for your question, no I don't think that is possible because that function is not incorporated into the CD4017 chip. You would need a micro processor based sequencer to get those types of options, like reverse or random steps. Something Arduino based would be easy to manipulate in various ways but that's beyond the simpler sequencer in this project.

@@EdEditz hi Eddy, thanks for your reply. Ok no problem. 👍

@@EdEditz hi Eddy, may I bother you once again? :) i just added the few additions to my sequencer (opamp and external clock input) and i used my Korg SQ-1 sequencer's clock output to trigger my sequencer and it works like a charm. If i change the speed on my Korg my sequencer follows the speed BUT (here it comes), i noticed that the gate out does not follow the external clock input speed. Can you confirm this? how can we solve that? so that the gate output also takes over the speed from the external clock? thanks again

@@MJLouer OMG that's a good observation. I hadn't noticed it before but you need to connect the Gate Out to the External Clock Input socket. The signal carrying pin, not the switch pin of the socket, otherwise the Gate Out stays conneced to the internal oscillator. Good one. Now I have to adjust my article and schematic LOL. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. It's an easy fix though.

@@EdEditz hi Eddy, thanks. Glad I could help :) maybe i have another small (i hope) thing you can look at. When i mute channels of the sequencer, i still hear my VCO make sound. Not pitched as i dialed in, but the pitch of the coarse of my VCO. Is there a way to completely mute the sound of that muted channel? Maybe it has something to do with the fact that the 40106 is generating pulses. Even with adsr and vca connected the channels are not muted. Not sure. Maybe you know how to do this. Then the sequencer is getting better :)
