My fondest memory of this joint is when I first stepped into BONDS INTERNATIONAL CASINO...Kenny Carpenter,who was the resident D.J. at the time,was blasting Time Warp at the highest possible volume,filling the huge space of the club with a wall of bass that pulsated with every beat of the song... a classic !
This was just and inner body experience when Larry played it at the Garage which had arguably the best and loudest system in NYC. He would blast this and the bass would pound right through your chest. Another recotd that was half house/disco and the break sounded incredible was 'We got our own thing' even John Robinson would play it in the 90's on WBLS midday mix.
yes, i was there, and no words could explain how great this club was. it was and will remain the baddest club in the world, and im from England originally. all know is we would dance all night long and spent hours after hanging out , dancing some more in the park on west fouth street. it was truly magical, as long as u could stay awake.

The club was so alive...its too bad they closed..i remember leaving there with sunglasses on in da morning..hottest club around besides fun house and roseland..paladium..just unforgettable memories for me :)

after the world messed with you all week we went to garage and Larry set things right with songs like this and third world. You got on the floor with the confetti coming down and the fog machine going and the strobe lights and the music and the dance took you over. We would go into a trance and baby nothing mattered anymore nothing hurt and when you left the world was a better place. if it was fri you got another chance to do it again and I would. Underground cult classic that still sounds great 30 years later. Eddy Grant was a staple during that period. Can anyone post the extended version of Living on the Frontline. That was a masterpiece and a house anthem at the Loft and the Garage.
True, along with "Bra by Cymande", "The Magnificant Dance by The Clash" and countless others, these were all in a genre by themselves. We at the time didnt have a name for it, (nor did we care) all we knew was that it was an underground NYC thing!

Time Warp. Ahhh! Fitting name because it was truly before it's time The Loft and the Garage were the cutting edge of dance music at the time and it's resonations are very much alive today. Globally in the dance music community.

This is arguably the earliest 'Tech House' tune I had ever heard. I remember at the time dancing at my local under 18s Disco to this. Definitely in the spirit of Francine Mc Gees 'Delirious', or 'Super Nature' by Cerrone.
You can tell this song predates much of what we know as House music - it has the vocal riff that you associate with the '70s. All I had really heard of Eddy Grant was what was fed to me by MTV in the early '80s. Nice as "Electric Avenue" was, it's a shame that I don't know more of what this cat was/is about.

yes the same eddy grant, he produced it in 1982..if i remember it was only played in the clubs back then.. that underground club music. i never heard this played on the radio..thanks for the comment.

Larry Pumped it at Garage. And Bonds International's equally, both sound systems were put together by the late great Richard Long. Remember the 9 foot sub woofers in the wall? And who can forget the system at the garage.
the similarities ARE there. you cant ignore that. regardless speed of song and type of instruments etc. both are brilliant songs, but you cant blame a man to feel he's been ripped off of his original work. i'm in favour of everyone forgiving and forgetting :)
