In a distant future lies a city known as "EDEN", barren of humans for thousands of years. Robots have been the only form of existence since. A human baby girl, Sara, awakes from stasis, questioning all they were taught to believe. No longer an ancient myth, two robots E92 and A37 become her surrogate parents, raising her in a safe haven outside EDEN. ANime went hybrid (not exactly 3d, but mixture of 3d and flat, 3d used as reference for artist) three decades ago, original GitS was one of pioneers of that.

I absolutely love the dynamic between the Sara and her robot parents, I honestly wish there was at least one more episode focused on them more. The animation although cgi, it's very well animated unlike other studios that try to imitate the low framerate of traditional 2D. The story is pretty basic (human bad, robot good, robot keep human away) but! The world building behind it absolutely makes it 10x better than it would. Voice acting is amazing for both Japan and English, they make the emotions feel genuine and this includes the robots as well. Overall a hidden gem.

I finished it right now. Wow. So sad and deep. One of the best shows in first half 2021. I was skeptical like a lot because the animation but it's a perfect exemple for "don't judge a book by its cover". Animation + story is great. HIGHLY recommended. Nice 1h40min ride.

A great example of why you should not judge a book by its cover. I had low expectations and didnt want to give it a chance because the CGI. This told a fantastic story though and the CGI didnt l take me out of it like I was thinking. It doesn’t look bad either. The CGI is simple and cel shaded I forgot all about it after while and it felt like watching any other animation style. Somehow this was even better than something like Yasuke for me, even with the lesser budget this show had way more of a soul. Not trying to dis the animators at all because its not bad looking, I just prefer drawn animation. I recommend this one, it reminded me of the Nier games but without all the tragedy.

You know why its bearable? Because majority of the characters are robots and machines. This type of CGI, 3d animation (like videogame animation) looks WAYYYYYYYYY better in robots. Organic life like Sara looks stiff and robotic because this type of animation doesnt have much fluidity. Disney and Pixar does 3d animation better. They shouldve stuck with 2d with Sara and 3d everything else. Good story tho

This is actually a legitimate hit that I think will get passed over due to the poor CGI anime films Netflix has hosted in the past. If you see this, I recommend giving it a watch. Yes it's mostly a kids/young-teen demographic but there a lot of movies like that that are still enjoyable and meaningful to watch for adults, and this is one of them. Yes it's predictable, but I found that that doesn't detract from the scenes impact either.

@@itsjustvin7630 Exceptions to the rule doesn't change them being exceptions to the rule. The CGI in Beastars is just as jarring and cheap as it is here or in others, but just as in Eden it fits the visuals a lot better compared to say Godzilla Singular Point, and besides, people aren't out there praising these shows for their CGI, as said by the original comment, so it's not really ironic at all.

I loved this series becuase it was actually in a way twlling whats happening these days and how it was such a vute animation and i loved the whole story and i loved the robots and that E92 the apple picking robot father was like a real life father and the mom robot whos name i domt know was acting like a real mother it was a beautiful series sorry for spoliers and u must watch this warm regards- 💙

Why do anime fans have to constantly gripe about 3D anime. Like let people who enjoy it, enjoy it for once. I like both 2D and 3D and find they both have their pros and cons. It just gets tiring.

Because visually, the "3D" anime style is very unappealing to look at. It takes away from any existing good storyline just from the effort of having to tolerate the bad visuals. It ruins the viewing, and yes it gets tiring.

I liked the movie but it didn't exactly push the envelope in terms of story. 3D was good and pacing the series into four parts instead of a full fledged movie was the right choice. I loved the music. I'd give it a 3/5, the story is pretty cliché but a well made wheel is a well made wheel. I asked for a well made anime not a reinvention of this type of story.

I really enjoyed this anime. Thought the story was really well done even though it may have been relatively simple. The characters were really likable (Sara, Mom, Dad, Uncle John, and PJ) and I found Dr. Fields story to be really sad. Overall I really liked it!

This isn’t much. 4 episodes and the show constantly tells people that humans are really good. If this were longer, it would’ve been a gradual learning experience for Sara. But she doesn’t have any real time to think about it, because plot. Also, dialogue was very on the nose.

I have started watching it, and the main character I guess is supposed to be cute and spunky but is just SOOO SUPER ANNOYING. I don't know if I'll bother watching the rest of it since I am not caring about what happens to her at all. 4 eps for 1 season? Thats 66% less than it should be.... it was way too short, if you make something 4 eps, why not do a movie instead? I will never understand...
