DSG 3020 shunting the wagons from 919. Unfortunately there was a noisy wagon from 919 which was required to be shunted out of the rake of wagons before departing for Daiken. The remaining tonnage that was dropped off by 919 will be shunted into North Edendale siding after returning from Daiken.
Was great to see one of the wagons from the first batch of Hillside Workshops assembled IL container wagons as part of this rake.

Very nice, always wondered how they sorted wagons down at Edendale. Sorry if im bothering by sending a lot of comments.

No problem. Y35 is normally a busy shunt. Collects tonnage from Alliance, Daiken & Fonterra. To save time for the mainline services it will consolidate the wagons from Alliance, Daiken & Fonterra and will leave them at Edendale, and will also take wagons down to Alliance, Daiken & Fonterra that are dropped off at Edendale.

That loco. Kind of reminds me of the old class 17 "Clayton" locos that British Railways had in the1960's.

Majority of the shunters in New Zealand are that style. Twin engined & remote control.

Thanks. The thing with the,"Clayton " class 17 was the motors were absolutely crap. Even with modified prime movers they were inadequate for what they were ment for. Some were fitted with steam generator boilers for passenger use. But still useless.some of the Claytons ended in private use, places such as cement works but most were consigned to the cutters torch, only one was saved in preservation and can be seen on heritage railways around the UK.
