I can't believe that their is no comments... This is the best RC channel on the web. If I hadn't found this video on XD9+ for a plane setup I would have gave up the XD9 is all about Quads PPM & Sbus. I just wanted to learn fixed wing first with the XD9 Thank you so much for the great videos..

Right, watched this a bunch of times. Did my best, everything moves in the right direction and it seems reasonable when the failsafe kicks in, I've got a few packs that balance at what looks to be the right place. Let's see how this pans out. If this bixler still works when I get back that will be considered a success, if not I'm moving to diy foam board.

@@Painless360 it was broadly successful. Disabling the rudder was good advice, helped a lot. I think if I practice my nose in flying on my whoop a bit I should be ok. It was only really awkward flying nose in. The bixler is battered and broken with one aileron not working but with a bit of tlc she'll fly again. Only throttled up to save it once, unfortunately that's when it was coming right at me. Cue comedy moment where I use all my non-existent grace and dexterity to avoid it.

Another great video and awesome to see the visual representation as you talk. Could I suggest a part 2 for a pilot with a bit more experience who wants the sport throws as well, so maybe put the weight back to 100% and use Dual Rates to achieve this. I realise you have previously done a video on DR, but I think it would be great to follow the same style of this video and demonstrate on the model and radio as you talk about it. Keep up the great work.

Love this video.... question for you.. I'm setting up my first nitro plane.. and I have set my control horns as close to 90 degrees mechanically as I can get them.. now when I go adjust the sub trim does that throw the servo off? Meaning say.. if you adjust the rudder right (or positive trim) does it give the right rudder throw more throw on that side and the left throw less? Or does it shift its entire range over.. also the equal sign all the way to the right. Should that make it so that both left and right throws are equal.. should I leave the triangle or use the equal....thanks
@Painless360
@Painless360 4 года назад
That's an impressive model for the first setup. Set the servo horns at 90 degrees using sub trim on the radio then adjust the linkages so that the control surfaces are inline with the wings and stabilisers. If you've done that right there should be equal throw... Best of luck!

Painless, you seem to be a pretty logical chap. Do you have or can you recommend a standard usage of all the switches knobs and sliders for radios? eg., flaps down are always on SAdown for example. I find myself fumbling a bit sometimes! Great series. Keep up the good work.

This is very much a personal choice and what you're used to. Every pilot has their own way of setting up a radio and once they find what works for them then replicate those controls in every setup. For me, it's the front left hand three position for flying modes and the same switch on the right for throttle hold/arm. Happy flying!

Painless360 maybe go over the basics and concepts, what, why, when, where, how. The how depends on the radio. You have reviewed many radio systems so might be too much so that step could be left to flyer to look for. The basics are the same. The difference is the actual range check activation (menu system; switch when powering on; etc) Depending on demand you could do a range check play list with one video on the Ws and subsequent ones on accessing the range check mode, how. Maybe put the question out there and see if other patrons want to see range check video(s). Might save a couple of people from crashing a model.

I am really going through and studying your many splendid videos, and trying to get my old brain to keep up, and will no doubt catch up, BUT I'm just not there yet. I am playing on Companion TX. I have also set up my four channel DLG and X4R and Taranis Plus to talk to each other. The DLG surfaces are doing the basics ok. Now I want to add a switch control for Camber, Reflex and Thermal. But I just have not been able achieve this on Companion TX, before I go"live" on my Taranis. I think that If I can see how to do this, then, my brain will have clicked into "mixing" mode. Maybe you have a quick tip video for this already, but I have not yet spotted it. Sorry for taking up your very expertise time, on such a "simple" matter.

Lee, Having studied so many of your brilliant videos I still can’t figure out how to get 100%+ throws for my ailerons using my jumper t16. Using a simple spectrum dxe I can get 125% throw making my lil acro plane very nimble, but no such joy with the t16. Is it possible to increase the throw without resorting to ‘scary’ pc software stuff ? 🤯. Your help is sincerely appreciated

Great video, especially for those of us new to Taranis. I'm following your series as I get back into the hobby from a long hiatus. I have the same radio so I'm wondering do you have a second antenna? Also, what is the purpose of the piece connected to the neck strap loop? Thx...Lou
@Painless360

Welcome back to the hobby. A lot of the technology has changed and is now more powerful but the flying is just as fun! The second antenna is for the JR bay module I have in the back of the radio that allows me to bind to other types of recievers. The strap over the power button protects the power switch and also moves the lanyard connection point down so the radio hangs more flat.. happy flying!

Hello buddy, just wondering if there is a way with the taranis that you could possibly have a switch to operate 2 channels independently, for instance operate flaps for take off but then when I am in the air and do not need flaps could I flick a switch and use that channel to operate the pan on my camera? It would be great if that could happen as it would free up more channels to use that you do not need all the time i.e. Flaps and bomb drops etc. Hope you understand what I mean as it is quite hard to put across what I am trying to say haha. Thanks very much in advance keep up the super helpful videos 👍🏼

Lee, I love you videos. You do such a thorough job of making OPEN TX understandable. I do have one question though that I haven't seen addressed on any of the videos I've watched (I haven't watched them all). I'm wondering if this is a glitch in my Jumper T16 Pro, or if I'm just misunderstanding a basic principal of Open TX. When I set up a basic fixed wing model, with Ail on 2 channels, everthing works fine except the trim. I have Ailerons set up on channels 1 and 5 with the right stick controlling. That works fine. But, when I move the trim for that channel, the rudder trim output is adjusted. Conversly, when I move the rudder trim on the radio, then the trim output for channels 1 and 5 are adjusted. Does that make any sense? Can you point me to a video where you address this?
@Painless360
@Painless360 4 года назад
I do have a video that does cover trims in the OpenTX mix school However what you are describing doesn't sound right. Trims only work on the input page - nowhere else. Make sure that the trim assignment on the input page is ok and use the single aileron control from the input page in the mixer to the two separate outputs the two separate servos. I hope that makes sense. If that all checks out then it may be a bug. Best of luck
@Pastorkarlman
@Pastorkarlman 4 года назад
@@Painless360 Thanks. It was me being dumb. I had followed your setup for using global variables for mixing trims, and I switched my channels around without switching GV's so that was what was throwing it off. Thanks again or the great content.

@lwg66
@lwg66 8 лет назад
When you have a fixes wing up and flying have it trimmed and you use the same radio for many different ones, with a different model pgm for each plane and the trim amount for Ail is -22 and Ele is +17. Do you write this number down and apply that amount of trim the next time you fly that one or is their a place to enter it and zero the trims and it will fly right.
@Painless360
@Painless360 8 лет назад
Great question. Sounds like you are new to the hobby. We have a series of videos in the 'Introduction to RC' series that covers the basics. To answer your question, each model has it's own setup and model memory on the radio that holds of the details of how the channels, trims, mixes and controls work for every model. You select the model on the radio before you power on the model itself. Most radios also bind the receiver in a way that stops the model becoming 'live' unless you have the right model selected on the radio. Best of luck!
