I can get the 1280 for 85 - 95usd, and for 135 - 145, I can get a 1700BTs or even a 1855DB. Really depends on where you are. :) Good review!

That's the thing with watching a review made for a global audience. The reviewer can only check the prices where he's from, it's on the viewer to see wether it applies to his location or not. I'm big into pc building and constantly hear from americans how AMD gpu's are cheaper, but where I live they cost as much as Nvidia, so that point is moot.

I have looked at the R1855DB: are they better than R1280DB ? R1855DB seems to have smaller frequency range and lower Signal-to-Noise Rate than R1280DB ...

@@Marian_Rusnak the 1855 is SUPERIOR in every sense. A higher SNR doesnt mean jack if it is not audible.

Did you increase the treble all the way? Also, if you are using it on a PC, you can get a SW equalizer and increase it too.

I tested the R1700BTs. I don't say there's a big difference but the R1700BTs sound better

Can a subwoofer be hook up to it

Not directly, as per Edifier, you can connect an RCA splitter to the Audio source and hook the subwoofer to the splitter. The subwoofer should be powered and it will receive all the frequencies without filtering. Here's their complete answer: "Yes, you can use a subwoofer with our powered speakers, but the subwoofer must also be self-powered. You will need an RCA Y-splitter. From the audio source run one set of the RCA’s to the speakers, and the other set of RCA’s to the subwoofer. Note that speakers without a sub-out do not have a low-pass filter, so they will continue to play bass frequencies when connected to the subwoofer. "

Edifier has sent me 3 replacement remotes over the span of 6 months. This is a horrible means to addressing the larger problem, the IR blaster/recieved is faulty and looses connection. An internal hardware issue not a remote replacement issue. I highly recommend against edifier speakers if you wish to use remote functionality. Yes you can use knobs located on the speaker but, you will "NEED" to use a remote if you wish to activate or deactivate surround/nearfield eq optimization.

You are right about the remote, it is not great but mine is still working. That being said, the R1280DB doesn't have a Surround option, the R1280DBs has and its remote is far better
