After comparing Edifier R1700BT with Edifier R1800BT and learning that they sound more or less the same, I was expecting the same result while comparing Edifier R1280DB with Edifier R1280T. The reality is bit different from my expectations though, so I encourage You to listen carefully to this comparison before making Your decision. Me personally, I find R1280T a bit clearer sounding and, if You do not need Bluetooth and digital inputs, I would recomennd it as it is more affordable. Both offer grat value though so choose the one that fits Your need more. What do You think about the sound differences between them? Let me know in the comments below! Cheers!

Got the 1280T For a PC room, I don't see newding more or better than these in my life. The sound is amazing, If I had a house with more storage space, I'd buy 3 pairs to hold me for at least 15 years on the cheap.

Just Bought R1280T, sounds awesome. I hooked it up to my cheap subwoofer through the PC input left and right, so I have that nice low end too

The DB sound is more realistic (noticeable on acoustic guitar), t sound is warmer. Under your ears you can always adjust the equalizer, so both are good. Как то так.

People.... Just go with the features you need. The difference in sound is tweakable with EQ. The speaker drivers in these are likely the same, the difference could be minor changes in suppliers for the analog treble and bass knobs. What you'll set as "0" on one may translate to +"2" or -"1" etc. on the other.

DB sounds more like studio monitor and that's why I bought it. T sounds way too harsh with highs....

@@Ascoundrel Also you forgot to mention the so-called "bass boosted" from DB can simply be rolled over and fixed with the EQ too. Also, when I turn up the treble, the highs are there and it sounds balance. End result? Studio quality!

The lack of highs on the DB can be adjusted unlike the T w/c cannot. You can boost a bit on treble if it sounds lacking for you as well as on the bass. That is why I get the DB w/ more connectivity options.

Sounds like the Ts have less low-mid and upper-bass which make them sound cleaner, correct me if i am wrong but that's why people say they sound cleaner, and the bass frequencies are more separated as a result as well. So to me they sound flatter than the DB overall which for me is awesome because i want unbianed sound, ASSUMING i am correct hearing this over the old af(but extremely well carred) logitech x-230 and proper sound card setup).

The highs are more prominent on the T where the DB has a more dominant midbass not to be confused for bass. I like the T for the separation.

which one would you recommend for TV use? Most important thing is having intelligible dialogue even on relatively low volumes. Unfortunately all comparison videos focus on music so it's hard to tell. Maybe a different 2.0 speaker setup would be more suitable under $100?

I've been looking for a pair of not expensive "monitors". Now, before I get told that these are not monitors I just want to make clear that I monitor my recordings and mix my music with a good pair of headphones that I have (the room hasn't been acoustically treated and no point in doing it as I only rent this place, ergo no point in buying real studio monitors). What I'm really looking for is an option that allows me to hear myself while recording (just for the sake of timing really) as spending too much time with the headphones makes my ears tired. Also, would like to have a reference speaker to see how my mixes sound in a "regular divece" (just dont wanna go all the way go to the car to see how my music sound in those speakers). So, just for the purposes mentioned above, would the R1280DB be appropriate? Thanks

The sound of the T's is more vertically sensitive, lessening the low end while the DB's are more horizontal when playing high notes but maybe it's just me.

The t's or 1700 bt for gaming , occasional music. Please someone help me decide. Don't need bt as this is just for my PC. Also asthetics are very important to me. Also my aux input has a broken 3.5mm Jack in it so I will be using a rca to USB conveter , will it make a difference? Thanks

The T has the crisp high which can be toned down with the trebble. The DB can't get the crisp high despite increasing the trebble. My 1280T power transformer died & i converted it to passive speakers. Tried with an external amp & no way can the amp replace the inbuilt DSP circuit. Looks like i will buy another pair of 1280T.

I am listening to the video on my JBL earphones the diffreence i could hear is that T is brighter and and plays the high mid frequencies louder and lacks to show up the low mid frequencies, whereas the DB concentrates on low mid frequencies and makes music more balanced rather that just being tweeting the highs...i would say DB is better balanced and plays all the frequencies equally...i dont worry about the ports cause i have all the converters and dont worry about the Bluetooth cos i mostly use it for music production rather that listening music from Mobile phone using bluetooth...

Ich bin am überlegen zwischen Edifier R1280T und R1280DB, die T haben ja ein etwas besseres Sound nur das ich da mit einem Bluetooth Verstärker arbeiten muss da sie kein Bluetooth selbst haben. Und die R1280DB haben Bluetooth aber ein wenig schlechteren sound welche würdet ihr mir mehr empfehlen? Und wird der sound durch ein externen Bluetooth Verstärker verschlechtert?

The T seems to err towards the top end whereas the DB tries to do more work towards the bottom - a little EQ might even that up. I think the 'Man on Fire' track shows it off the most. The T has a bit more splash on the cymbals and snare but the DB has a bit more depth in the kick drum. The more pronounced top end on the T gives it a bit more clarity and helps punctuate the sound. Side by side they do sound different but it's not like some comparisons where one reveals a whole half of the orchestra that wasn't audible before.

Sounds like the DB has some kind of "depth" applied onto the sound - an effect I see applied more and more on radios and speaker systems... which I don't like.

Awesome comparo! Its R1280DB for me. It has more pronounced lows and mids, which is excellent for hard rock and metal. Both are brilliant for their price though.

Thanks for this video. The sound heard here has nothing to do with the real one. In this video you can hear the T more treble and the DB best in low. Im personally prefer DB with little more Low and 2 more conections.Im not use Bluetooth (this loses quality sound), but apreciate the coaxial and optical conections.

Like you mention in the desc. The T model actally sounds clearer. Noticed it espessially from 0:30 to 0:45 ish, instruments souds clearer and more distinkt overall. On the DB the guitars espesially are more muffled sounding.

Don't know what to think about this test. They both sound different to me when listening however I AM using the R1280DB speakers to listen to this test and I would currently say that the T's sound better but... that wouldn't make any sense because then i'm currently suggesting that they sound better despite the fact I am using the DB's to listen to this test. So maybe they both sound exactly the same and this test is terrible. Surely they are both exactly the same speaker just one includes the bluetooth feature and the other does not?

The T's are going to wooo the rap guys.. I prefer a more balanced (unexciting) sound because the harshness of the T's will fatigue my ears.. Yes the DB's have more mids but on vocal tracks and rock.. Thats what you want..

I wanted to get the DB before since I thought Bluetooth would be useful but it's hands down TS for me after watching this video and it was a very easy choice. DB sounds too muffled with a narrow sound stage and more punchy lows whereas TS has a much wider sound stage, and much more accurate mids, and highs.

Ts sound has better clarity, specially in the high range, DBs sound is bit muddier. Overall I actually find DBs sound warmer, so, for music enjoyment (and probably for TV) I think DBs are better, but for monitoring I'll go with Ts, although I wouldn't actually recommend neither for any serious monitoring. Anyway, I think both are exactly the same hardware, just a lil' different EQ in their DSP, so, with an external EQ I'm sure you can make both of them sound exactly the same.

Glad I caught this video. Changed my order to the DBs. DB for me as the scoop in the T's would need an EQ to sort out and may still underperform. There's no mid to them that's why the treble sounds considerably clearer. DB definitely feel like they've got good solid mids but yes, the bass does muddy the mix, could do with a bit of work, easily done though by the on-device controls. Listening to the vocals was the seller for me. DB - solid vocals with punch. T - They sound thin.

Honestly, we simply don't know how long was the burn in period for each. I hardly think that these speakers have any differences beside the BT capability. They look exactly the same, spec exactly the same, why would they have different parts inside? So I think that difference we hear in the sound here is due to the different amount of usage.

On the jazz track db sounded warmer and richer but with enough details in the highs. T was a bit harsch. On vocals the T were more open and clearer sounding. Will get the db's. Thank you.

I have both of these and I would honestly recommend the db rather than the T mainly because you get more out of your money for just $30 more. Sound wise, the T is brighter but lacks midrange. The db is much more balanced with most of its frequencies staying and not going past -/+5 which makes them perfect, atleast in my use case, for doing songs. And when I need them to be fun sounding speakers, I just boost the treble and the bass. This is why I recommend the db since while it lacks the clarity of the T, you can simply boost the highs with its built in tone controls. The T has no tone control for mids so you're pretty much stuck with the neutered mids.

Three years ago I bought the R1280T for € 75 for the pc and the audio interface to connect my guitars and a few months ago I bought the R1280DB for € 100 for my new TV and I am very happy with both, they are very good speakers to an excellent price.

T seems clear but lacks mid which can't be controlled. DB has mid and its lows & highs can be controlled using treble and bass knobs.. I would go with DB.

exactly my thoughts. lol. same goes with the 1700, it sounds like the bass and treble are boosted, that's why a lot of people seem to choose them over the 1280. but 1280 has more mids. treble and bass can be adjusted, but that mids from 1280, and the "airy" sound, you can't adjust that, lol. I prefer 1280db/dbs

Ey.. Great comparison. I was checking out these Edifiers and landed on your channel. Nice music you have for testing too. I am interested in getting a nice pair of active speakers for listening to music (flac mostly) using my audio interface. Unfortunately I'm on a 100 bucks budget, so can't really get what I like the most. Is there any pair of speakers that beats the 1280T in this price range? I would have preferred with balanced connections, but my Scarlett Solo interface has two RCA outputs (and a TRS output for headphones), so not sure I can use balanced cables with it. Thanks and have a like from me!

100 buck price range is hard because there is also some serious compromise to accept. In this price range, except of R1280T I also like Presonus Eris E3.5 I have tested recently. I will post comparisons with E3.5 soon (R1280T will be also included) so wait a few days and You will be able to hear them Yourself. Cheers!

I appreciate the effort, but an A / B sound test like this for audio is always going to be limited (aka contaminated) by what you're listening to the comparison through; which is going to place it's own audio fingerprint onto what you hear.

Huh, to my ears the T's sound tinny in the top end and empty in the bass, whereas the DB's have a lovely full bass and smooth but recessed highs.

I think it is the placement of the speaker. look how it changes a bit of an angle everytime the speaker changes. very minimal diff though only the treble side.

Funny, I hear the opposite: more clearance on the very top and very bottom on T, while DB is kind of bumped-up in mid-range. Surprisingly, T sounds better for me... 🤔

To my hearing it seems like DB is a little more 'closed' in a small box. Kinda bumped mid-range... it may sound cool in some cases, but in general I prefer T. Seems to be more 'open'. In the last section (bass test) it looks like the author put a little fade-in/out between changes and this tricks me into believing that some kind of embedded digital compressor/regulator is normalizing some lows in the DB versus T, but I guess this is only a jedi mindtrick. May it even be that the volumes where not exactly the same?
