Sold my Audioengine A5s after 3 years with them...and bought these 2 months ago....love their sound....I use them with my laptop and flac files....listening to Sympathy for the Devil right now and I'm in heaven!
Great review Ryan. I just received my R1700BTs today. I followed along with everything you stated about the speakers and I agree with mostly all you said. When I went out to pick up the box (Amazon delivered), I was quite surprised at the weight of the box. I had to readjust my stance to maintain the weight of these speakers. I unboxed them and placed them on my bookshelf of my office. They are very aesthetically attractive and they put out a great sound. I will probably purchase another pair for one of the other rooms in my house. Thanks Ryan!
I had numerous Edifiers - 1280dbs, S880, 2000db, D12, even Airpulse A200 which is premium Edifier sub-brand. For music enjoyment and simply listening 1700BT and D12 beat them all.
That subwoofer output on the bts was something i didn’t even learn about in my prepossible purchase obsessive research. Something i might consider for 10 more dollars if i’d ever like to hook up a sub to these
I have nothing but great things to say about these speakers, easily one of the best additions to my gaming setup and you can seriously get some high fidelity sound from these. Also would be great for a home theater because the bass punches without a subwoofer. don't even really need a subwoofer though and I'm a basshead.
Okay, random question from a stranger on the internet, but since you already own these, is there an option to leave these connected to an outlet? As in, I don't want to have to worry about charging these since they'll be stationary. I'm having a hard time figuring that out with these wireless type speakers.
@@mikesecor6074 lmao literally get them “bs” yet you haven’t even heard them. They’re really good, I’ve got quite a few fairly expensive audiophile speakers and these compare very nicely. Don’t call BS on something you’re ignorant to.
@@TheFrikadellexxl No, just retail SATURN. I went in and grabbed them. :=oD (notice the long nose on the smiley, just so you don't think I was copying you)
Love the review, but these - are not studio monitors. They are quite biased and bass heavy, which can be eq'ed easily - meant for an easy connectivity/ consumer listening. I mean you can use them, if you need for your mixing, but would not as flat as Mackies or Yamahas would get. And they do not have 1/4 inch in for a proper Audio interface.
I added these to my random surround sound in my small living room and they really sound great and balance the sound great in combo with my old Early 2000s passive Polk set and random pioneer I have in center. Also use them with my turntable and they sound great but themselves to.
I got the 1700BTs and the Bass was lacking. Since the BTs version has a Sub out, i could connect my old sub, now its perfect. The 1700BT version has no sub out, so i wouldnt buy that.
@@techedoutwithryan3391 yes, it got boomier, but i couldnt feel it. I should add that i love techno music. I also listen classical and there i could live without a sub, but big orchestral music is still better with proper low end. But i absolutely love these speaker, the bluetooth function is very useful, i use it for my daily alarm clock music.
Hi Ryan, I know your review on these speakers was 3 years ago and from what I heard they sounded great and you review - video was amazing. I just bought a 1999 Technics SC-HD505 system that takes bookshelf speakers. Do you think I could use these on that system? I would do modifications to the speaker cable connectors. Or do you recommend a different brand? they do come with an amplifier. Thank you.
awesome review, gonna buy a pair in a couple of days. Two questions though: Do you have any referral code that I can use so you can get some kickback? What is the song at the end of your video?
Thank you! If you use the Amazon link in the description, I will get a kickback. Also, the link to the song is also in the description. Thanks so much.
I just ordered some of these I did not realize for 10 bucks more you could get the updated version like you said they sound the same wanted to ask what is the music genre in your opening not the funky rap stuff.
I heard the edifier 1280t which are pretty darn popular, and even tho they sounded great, I thought the resolution in the highs was just not crisp enough for my liking. They sounded good but a little veiled. I want to know your opinion on the highs specifically. I've never heard big "good" monitors, only through headphones, so I don't really know what to expect from this price
Would you recommend these for serious broke music producers? Like, I saw Presonus Eris 3.5, their freq response is 80 to 20khz and R1700bt have 60 to 20khz...
Well Presonus Eris 3,5 are recording monitors. In another word a production tool. They are almost flat, even emphesize mid range, which is important for having real picture what in mix IS WRONG. So for casual listening they might cause fatique. And they likely resonant round 100-150 Hz. Might tbe he result of Bass Reflex (I have filled it with foam). But Edifier is for daily enjoy of listening of various audio material. They sound incredibly pleasant. Technically wise, it is advanced one. They have Bi-Amping, tweeters have its own stereo amplifier and woofers as like. So they have four pin cable. inter box connection And they have built in "loudness" device ballancing high and lows on various power settings. I use both Eris and Edifier in studio. Eris for critical reference (like "aurratone") and Edifier giving me the real picture how listener hears my music.
Hi! I see that you use Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 with that Edifier 1700BT. I have the same speakers and I am thinking about buying the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 to make electronic music in my "home studio". Are you happy with that rig Focusrite + Edifier ?
I actually have the focusrite solo, they're similar but not quite the same. I love it! My edifier speakers are connected right to the focusrite so I can change volume output with the metal knob, plug in instruments and hear them right from the speakers. It's a convenient setup for sure.
Are these speakers at LEAST "very loud" I'm not looking for earth shattering noise but I don't want to buy them then regret it becasue I can't "turn them up just a bit more". I will be solely using them for my record player.
If yall are concerned about the lack of a sub out on these speakers, just buy an RCA Y splitter. Then you'll be able to use a sub. The splitter has male on one end and 2 female on the other end. This adapter will plug into your computer or other device. Here's an example: www.amazon.com/ROCKRIX-Female-Speaker-Adapter-Splitter/dp/B08PKS42P6/ref=asc_df_B08PKS42P6/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=475825775681&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=10425271640149655107&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9025513&hvtargid=pla-1163174276384&psc=1 You'll also need 2 RCA cables with male on both ends, one for the speakers and the other for your sub. One end connects to the speaker/sub. The other end connects to the female ends of the Y splitter. It's hard to explain it in words, but it's really a simple setup. Keep in mind your sub must have RCA as an input option!
I've bought these and bitterly regret it. They randomly lose the Bluetooth connection with my PC and tonight I am yet again without sound after trying everything for an hour. Waste of money.
Im looking for use this on my setup with a technics and a djm 700 s, is better go to a pro speaker or this could be good? Im a professional dj but never see one of this
I've always been thinking to get on these badass. They sound good on all the youtube reviews...BUT if I were to use it in a small living room, do you think this 66W RMS speaker can produce sound loud enough without distortion?
I think so. When I have these at full volume I don't hear any distortion, but I don't have them at full volume often. These speakers do a good job of eliminating distortion even at high volumes.
How do those M40x's sound next to these set of speakers? I have them actually and was considering these speakers as well. Would be great if you could reply*
The headphones I have are the m50xs. I’m not sure exactly what you’re asking, but they both have great quality sound! I think the headphones are great when it comes to recording and even editing, and the speakers are great at editing and listening to music and can get quite loud. Not sure if that helps at all but let me know.
Thanks for the great review. I own a pair of these and the active speaker's tweeter sounds punchier than the non-active. I'm wondering if it's just my pair or it's usually sounding off?
Just out of curiosity how did you hook these up to your PC? I’m an audio noon. Do I need a DAC? Did you keep the speakers hooked up to each other or each one directly to your motherboards direction audio output?
@@techedoutwithryan3391 You definitely want the BTs. You want that sub. Fills the low end so well, and makes the mid and treble sound better, and....I thought they got louder midrange due to the bridge cut off. Get the BTs for sure, and Edifier makes a slick little sub called the T5 (8" woofer, not a 10" like so many bass heads seem to demand). The Edifier sub T5 costs $125 at Edifier's site, where I only order my speakers because they ship fast, and they automatically register you for a 2 yr warranty.
These speakers are not for a big room. They are near field speakers, not quite near field monitor speakers. They are best in a small room. With a sub, there is no telling how happy you could be with these speakers.
@@jimbeam7160 meh i dont have money for edifier speakers they are now most expensive "affordable and decent" brand on market and microlab. I came up with the idea of making speakers from the old hifi tower to the pc.
Thanks for the great content! I'm interested in buying those but what's stopping me is their Bluetooth capability (I don't have access to the non-BT model) - I just try to avoid unnecessary BT radiation (minimal as it is). I wanted to ask if there's an option to turn the BT chip off completely (so it won't be recognizable from other phones / devices). I tried to contact Edifier about that to no avail. Thanks in advance! Subscribed :)
The BT is not on, until you turn it on. When BT is on, there is a little blue light that tells you....when not using BT, the little green light is on. Believe me....you'll want the BTs because of the sub out, and because it's an updated speaker with the 5.O blue tooth Codec. Wait, you don't like using Bt? Well.....the BTs has sub out. You'll eventually want to connect a sub to fill out the low end wherever you set your bridge. I used the 1700BTs for a couple of months without the sub......and finally got The Edifier T5 powered sub, and.......it was a big change...a big difference. I doubt there is any other speaker below $500 bucks that can compete with the 1700 BTs connected to a decent sub. I doubt there is a better-cheaper sound signature for $285 (1700BTs costs $160 + Edifier T5 sub for $125). You could look at this speaker if you aren't gonna use blue tooth and don't want a sub: www.edifier.com/us/en/speakers/r2000db-bookshelf-speaker-bluetooth-optical-rca Not too long ago, Edifier knocked the price down to $200 as a St. Patrick's day sale. It's got a bigger woofer and an older BT codec.
Hello Ryan, what cables do you use to connect that speakers to your focusrite solo? the speaker comes with rca cable right? but how can you connect that to your scarlett when scarlett comes with trs connection at the back and the speaker comes only with rca?
All these Edifier powered speakers make one BIG mistake. They don't ALL come with a sub out!! Hey Edifier, want to sell a shit tonne of speakers? Put a sub out in EVERY model. Thank me later 😉✌️
@@techedoutwithryan3391 All small powered or non powered speakers need a sub (Unless you don't give a crap about sound) It should be a no brainer for manufacturers to include it on powered bookshelves.
I use them on my pc they are fine.not even a pair of yamaha hs8 studio monitors with the sub base unit could hit a 10hz bass note. Where would you even find an off the shelf budget speaker that even plays 10hz bass note?
They have no bass!! And before audiophiles jump to my neck, yes they only have 60Hz+ response but there is no compression to the point that you can't hear instruments with some songs. DO NOT buy these as speakers for your computer, in fact, do not buy these at all. Luckily I got the S version which supports a subwoofer which I'm waiting for because otherwise these are useless.
@@techedoutwithryan3391 are these 1700BT type speakers different from studio monitors with flat sound signature like Mackie , Pre Sonus etc... I do some content making too youtube, podcasts ...And listen more than create ..
Edifier labels them as active studio monitors on their Amazon store, so I think they are pretty similar to Mackie, Pre Sonus etc. That being said, these are also meant to provide an enjoyable listening experience, so other brands might be preferable if you are doing heavy sound editing.
