Edinburgh is the capital city of Scotland and it is one of the world's most beautiful cities.
Edinburgh is very famous for the Summer (Fringe) and Winter (Christmas & Hogmanay-New Year) festivals.
Edinburgh's Christmas is a six-week season of festive entertainment in the heart of the city with great fun for the whole family and obviously for everyone.
There are loads of Special Christmas events throughout the city.
1. Holiday Lights:
The Traditional start to Edinburgh’s Christmas celebrations is, Light Night (Edinburgh's Christmas Lights will be switched on during 3rd week of November) with Santa Claus making a special "flying visit" to Edinburgh’s Christmas and the Royal Mile.
2. Edinburgh Christmas market:
The Edinburgh Christmas Market descends upon East Princes Street Gardens. Little shops and Kiosks selling crafts, art, gifts, food, and more...
3. Winter Wonderland:
Lower East Princes Street Gardens transformed into a winter wonderland for all the family, with a host of rides and attractions for all to enjoy.
People enjoyed views of the capital from the top of the Big Wheel, brave a twirl on the 60-metre-high Star Flyer and spin around on the charming Carousel.
4. Santa Land:
In East Princes Street Gardens, featured a Christmas Tree Maze, the Santa Train, and family-friendly rides including the Race-o-Rama, Candy Cane Bungees, Chairoplanes and Reindeer Ride.
5. Winter Windows:
This event encourages Edinburgh’s young a artists (For School pupils throughout Edinburgh) to showcase their talents.
The winning entries colourful painting is kept in a vibrant stained-glass window designs and displayed in various locations in Edinburgh.
The topic for the year 2019 is "A FESTIVE WELCOME".
6. Christmas Lunch or Dinner:
Traditional Scottish Christmas meals vary widely but usually feature a roasted meat, ham, or fish (turkey is one of the most common), gravy, cranberry sauce, roasted vegetables (potatoes, carrots, parsnips), stuffing, a green vegetable (e.g., peas, Brussels sprouts, broccoli), and kilted chipolta (sausage wrapped in bacon).
The traditional dessert is Christmas pudding (dense suet, molasses, dried fruit, alcohol, and spiced cake), but other common options are clootie dumpling (a Scottish version of Christmas pudding), a Scottish trifle, or cranachan (whipped cream, whisky, honey, and raspberries). Although not typically part of the Christmas Day meal, mince pies are very common snacks or desserts during the Christmas season throughout the UK.
7. Enjoy a Festive Afternoon Tea :
A holiday afternoon tea is a great way to sit down, warm up, and enjoy a break from all the other festivities.
Many of the city’s big attractions also serve afternoon tea, including the tea room at the Royal Yacht Britannia, café at Holyrood Palace, and the tea room at Edinburgh Castle.
8. Bar:
The Johnnie Walker Bothy Bar was opened its door for Edinburgh Christmas visitors from all around the world into the world of whisky.
9. Bairns Afore
On the 31st December at 5pm you can celebrate with the kids, with spectacular fireworks and family entertainment, and all afore bedtime.
The event finishes with a special early fireworks show lighting up the sky over Edinburgh Castle, allowing families to take their children home to bed before the late-night reveling gets underway.
10. Street Party: Street Party is world renowned... it's THE place to be on New Year's Eve.
Party under the stars with an international selection of bands, DJs and street performers and prepare to be entertained from the moment the doors are thrown open ‘til far into the night as you welcome the New Year in unforgettable fashion.
As midnight falls, enjoy a spectacular fireworks display illuminating the sky over Edinburgh Castle.
11. Message from the Skies returns to Edinburgh’s Hogmanay on 1 January with Shorelines, a collection of letters to Scotland reflecting on our relationship with our seas, waters and coasts and our maritime heritage.
