In this episode of ‘Editorial’, Mr. Sujit Nair discusses Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman's response to allegations made by the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Mr. Mallikarjun Kharge. He claimed that the budget presented by the Finance Minister was primarily focused on just two states: Bihar and Andhra Pradesh. In her speech, the Finance Minister mentioned plans to set up a port in Maharashtra, indicating that other states are not being ignored and that equal attention is being given across the country. Mr. Nair, however, pointed out that Maharashtra is currently suffering from 'Farmer’s Distress', and argued that setting up a port may not directly address the pressing issues faced by the state.

Nail on the head, Mr. Nair! 👏 You are absolutely right in raising the question of whether a port in Maharashtra really addresses the immediate concerns of farmer distress in the state. It's all about striking the right balance between long-term development projects and meeting the immediate needs of the people, especially when the economy is as diverse and vast as India's. It seems like the Finance Minister might have missed a trick by not addressing the elephant in the room-that being the pressing issues of Maharashtra.

@@sunnybhai6161 Oh, politics. 😏 It sounds like Eknath Shinde's position as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra might be causing him some problems when it comes to getting more funds for the state's development. Without the backing of the Central government, it can be tough for regional leaders to get the financial resources they need to carry out their plans. This is where things can get tricky, especially when it's time for election campaigns and people start asking what's been achieved so far. E Shinde might have his work cut out for him if he wants to bring about real change in Maharashtra.

MMS is born economist. He had the expertise to assess the entire gamut of economics and make the allocations in the best possible way. This Govt., is unable to match the UPA in any aspect, in particular, the prices of petrol, diesel and other essentials are increasing astronomically and no control measures seem to be in place. Inflation of food and beverages have increased 63% in a year and a half. People are feeling suffocated.

Bold and challenging editorial need to be appreciated. I agree with your points. The current limping government is with two crutches has to be indebted and under the mercy of TDP and JRD who donated these crutches. Taking care of them is not to develop these states but to retain the government for selfish reason. The country's health check depends on four things, employment for youths (85% unemplyed), health care for citizens particularly senior citizens and lastly increasing resources for quality educationand lastly allocating surplus fund for R&D development than defence. None of above has been given adequate attention. The annual budget is a routine and mundane excecise. Projecting false/ fictitious fiqures are ment only to hoodwink the people. God save the country.

You imagine any state not having a capital city for 10 years. How would the youth of Andhra find jobs without even having the Capital? You name a state which doesn't have a capital in India.

As far as AP is concerned, the central govt. is only assisting in getting loans to build the capital at Amaravati. When AP divided, the residual AP lost the capital whereas Telangana gained the capital (Hyderabad). Further, assets (most of them in Hyderabad) were given to Telangana and the majority of debt to residual AP. This resulted in residual AP without the capital and budget deficit state.

What ever announced 1.PORT in maharashtra will go to ADANI. 2. AMOUNT to Bihar will go to bridges falling in near future. 3. Mr. Nair, I know that maybe other states are not getting much attention. I don't know what is the financial situation of Bihar. But the financial situation of AP is so worse it needs the central aid... We don't have a capital... We don't know where the taxpayers money of AP has gone in the last 5 years... AP was divided into again AP and Telangana 10 years back and still we don't have a capital... But as an Andhra person maybe we will be happy for that budget... Either political or not....
