I was there 10 years ago! The guy totally stole everyone's heart and that's why he got a wave of cheers every time he was on the screen. I'll never forget this moment as long as I'm alive
Me too! And the next year (or was it the one after that) he was there in the crowd as well and the camera guy found him again. I must admit me and my friend, who was also at the first show, shed a little tear
That's beautiful. I wasn' t there but i sure wish i was. This is so real. Especially when he sings 'the things you put in your head, they will stay there forever'. I' m a veteran with severe PTSD. Please anyone, stay away from anything that will scar you forever. You will! regret it.
1:45, 2:08, 2:47, 3:08, 3:28, 3:44 - every time people saw him they were louder. Imagine how amazing feeling this guy had when he realized that thousands of people are happy because he enjoy the song. Enjoy the music
I love how much the guy at 1:45 gets into it. I wish more people at festivals were like this, feeling and experiencing the music rather than just standing there recording it on cellphones.
If I ever become a musician (very doubtful) I wanna have a fan like that guy in the crowd, someone who actually FEELS the music. No phone, no signs, just feeling the moment.
Tom Smith said he based the lyrics on Cormac McCarthy's novel "The Road", about a father's journey with his son after an apocalypse. I just finished reading it and man... it left me emotionally shattered and heartbroken. This song captures the atmosphere so perfectly. It's haunting.
+mccari09 the reason why he gets shown alot in the movie is not just by accident while he was spotted singing, but because his own father controls that camera, he is belgian. Also, the kid himself (Jason Callewaert) works at the backstage aswell on many festivals, so there you go. People always get known by luck (via via). He never would've been on camera without his dad, and he never would've worked as a amateur backliner backstage without his dad. Know him irl, real attention whore but friendly guy, dreams alot though.
lyrics for this version of the song: we can never go home we no longer have one i'll help you carry the load i'll carry you in my arms we walk through the ash and the charred remains of our country keep an eye on my back i'll keep an eye on the road help me to carry the fire to keep it alight together help me to carry the fire this road won't go on forever if I say shut your eyes if I say look away bury your face in my shoulder think of a birthday the things you put in your head they will stay here forever i'm trying hard to hide your soul, son from things it's not meant to see help me to carry the fire to keep it alight together help me to carry the fire this road won't go on forever if I say shut your eyes if I say shut your eyes bury me in suprise when i say shut your eyes and i ohh oooh help me to carry the fire to keep it alight together help me to carry the fire this road won't go on forever
Not going to lie, I came to see if I'd commented before because I adore this song....I haven't commented, so I guess this is my comment. I listen to this on repeat at times and never get bored of it!
Ten years later and that look of pure blissful transcendence on the guys face is still so touching, it inspires so much joy. I love when he realizes that everyone’s cheering for him ♥️ music is so powerful and unifying!!
This song gives me goosebumps time and time again. Tom Smith is a genius, both vocally and instrumentally... This must have been what God had in mind when he invented music...
This is what happens during the concerts, everything is so magical, you can free your mind. Good to see that guy singing thoughless. Respect for Tom Smith 🙌.....
No words, just beautiful. Not even one bad song. Every Editors' song is great, they are brilliant live, and Tom Smith is an amazing musician and performer. Enormous band.
I got to know this song through the commemoration of the victims of the floods here in Belgium. My deepest condolences to the people who lost loved ones in this disaster and strength to all those affected.
Best band ever! There's no other person that can entertain a public like Tom Smith. To me, he's a great icon. Editors at Rock Werchter was defenitly the best concert I ever saw.
Like i wasn't even crying enough each time i'm hearing this song, this guy in the middle of the crowd, singing along with all his soul gets me every freaking time...
This song has helped me through a rough patch in life. IMHO it's one of the best songs ever written. So pure and simple, yet it carries a very powerful and meaningful message. Thanks Tom!
Covid-19 bought me back here.. stay home.. be safe.. stay alive.. Some people have to work have to dubble chek on everything for you and for co-worker (Friends) once this is all over WE CARIED THE FIRE
Kudos to the dude in the crowd, camera operator/s and switcher for making this a moment, and of course Tom Smith. Beautiful song, beautifully captured live.
Goosebumps from beginning till ending... And the guy singing along and appearing on the big screen is amazing. Shows what music can do with you... Dam I wish I was there!
I stumbled across this video quite some time ago. The first time I saw it I got goosebumps all over- hearing this song and seeing that guy in the crowd getting so much in touch with the music, almost as if its a duet, just made me fall in love with this song right away. If a fan should ever meet their idol I definetly vote for this guy! :)
This version was played on the funeral of my dearest friend who died at the pukkelpop festival this year, gives me shivers everytime i watch this, can't stop watching though.
With the awful events in Ukraine i had to revisit this song a lot this week.Man's inhumanity to man is still all to evident in 2022.Let's hope for a World where peace prevails. We have much more in common than ever divides us,please let that be the message to the World. As a species we have to believe that or we are truly lost.
My favourite video of one of my absolute favourite bands..oh and I love that Belgium guy in the crowd! Feels every second of it just as we all fans do!❤
That really is amazing. He's so in touch with the song he just loses all self control and goes into a world of his own. Magical what music can do. The fact the crowd cheered when he came back on the screen.
Belgian festivals are just #1... We love festivals so much and we always will, festivals bring ppl together, no matter how rich u are, who u are or where ur from. Theres so much bad talking abt the world and tht humans are ruining everything. But when u see this, u realise theres still so many good things on this world.
what a beautiful and rich moment.. the sound of tom's voice, the passion of a young lover singing, the crowd capturing this joint magic and tom realizing it and sharing a glimpse of a smile
..."i'll help you carry the load...i'll carry you in my arms...the kiss of the snow...the crescent moon above us...our blood is cold and we're alone...but i'm alone with you...help me to carry the fire...we will keep it alright together...it will light our way forever...bury your face in my shoulder...." .... ....one of my precious bands....i love all of their songs...i saw them at their live performance in Athens..they performed even better than in a studio...this particular song...speaks right into my heart.....
