The way I interpret it, is that to be accepted and loved, she creates her "doppelgänger" (the one wearing the black shirt in the mirror). She swaps places with that "perfect" reflection, and is now trapped inside the mirror, watching her doppelgänger make friends, be accepted and loved for telling lies and not being true to herself. She decides that she doesn't want that, but by now her doppelgänger has taken over her life completely and the real her is trapped inside the mirror, indicated by the line "my ideal reflection isn't here, meaningless I held out my hand". At the end she fights back her "virtualized lie", shouting to give it back (meaning her life), as she wants to try being herself once more. At the end she swears to never lie again, thus being true to herself, fighting back against her fake version by choking it. I think the fact that at the end her two versions constantly switch places until becoming one can be interpretiert two ways, either when she tries to kill her fake self, she is hurting herself because at this point in time her fake self is as much real as her true self is, or she slowly kills her fake part, being her true self in the end once again (thus the mirror breaking). I like how you mention all the ways the end can be interpreted because self-identity is a very complex thing, especially because it's introspective and a part of ourselves that others can't see or experience even if we try to explain it. Most people aren't going to have self-actualization and maintain it through their life, so I like the description that the 'fake self' is as much of her true self. Even if the dormant part comes out there's no guarantee that the other part won't think the same things. That the other part is a lie. It's not them. That they're trying too hard to be someone they aren't. And because we all experience it differently on a scale to a full/near full mask like a performance to always saying and doing what you want, we can all come to our different conclusions based on individual case-by-case applications to full on identity-crisis application.

For anyone having doubts about the lyrics.. In a summarized way, it's theme is about creating a fake persona to fit in - what people usually call "wearing a mask". The black clothed reflection in the mirror is her fake persona and the white one is her original self. As time passes tho, the boundary between what is real and fake becomes blurry (thats why at the end of the song both the fake and original self are fighting each other (choking each other and themselves at the same time).) I could go deeper and talk about other stuff like how she wanted someone to love her real self instead of the mask she's wearing, etc. But all that should be easy to interpret once you know the overall theme

She's lost in herself, she's a mere shell to carry her own created persona, which she can't control anymore. She's deep hidden behind that "cool" mask she created, but her inner self is suffering, getting lost. She can't control it anymore, we can't control it anymore. What is "you" and what is self-made? I interpret it like this, and it's fascinating, specially with her interpreting it through this raw singing. Insane. My fav artist

The most amazing thing about this song is that i got really emotional like never before after i heared it the first time although i didnt even read the lyrics and didnt understand one word. Her vocals and the music are just phenomenal I'd suggest time gram or main actor next

Is like: fake it till you make it. But herself did not want to absorb what she wanted and then become hollow and want to try again - split, split, split persona. Even we see 2: black and white - the idea is that she try to change: lie, fiction, fake smile - these are powerful weapons, but is not who she really is. That is why she asked to be loved by who she really is. Fighting personalities inside her mind. Powerful song that we all - I think - gone trough one way or another. And another message that I feel is like - be yourself no matter what, you are beautiful - when you feel the need to change, change on your own conditions not what ppl want to see.

I like to look at it this way. The girl in white is her true self. The girl in black is the 'ideal persona' she has made for herself, which is the one she presents to other people. Eventually she comes to think that the girl in black is more 'herself' than the girl in white (perhaps because she never lets the girl in white take over, or in other words she never really acts like herself), and thus the girl in black begins to take up more and more of her entire being. Towards the end of the song, the girl in black can be seen standing in a crowd of people while the girl in while bangs on an invisible wall, wanting to take back her place as a person, but unable to because 'the boundry' between her and the girl in black is disappearing i.e. she doesn't know who she is anymore. she clearly fears the idea of completely losing herself to the girl in black because she states 'don't love the illusion (girl in black) of me', and 'please don't forget me (girl in white)'. by the end, she says 'i won't lie to you again', which could either mean that she won't lie to herself again and will try to erase the girl in black and fully become the girl in white, or her original, real self, or that she will stop lying to the people around her by erasing the girl in black, which in turn also 'kills' her because the girl in black has taken over her persona.

You kinda got a thing mixed , towards the end she is stuck inside the mirror , the people outside are all happy and cheery around the fake one. She wants her life back , the fake version of hers 'stole' it. Also , Main Actor or Honest Diary next? :D

If there is another song I would highly recommend by Minami, i would have to say Eternal Blue. It is a little bit less known, but it's lyrics are on par with Hollowness to me with some amazing vocals as well. Minami is truly such an extraordinary artist.

I would lean more towards the fact that she didn't love herself back then. Therefore she created this fake image of herself because she wanted others to love her. But she used her fake image so much that she started forgetting how her real self were. The dopplegganger started taking over her body. In the end she's saying that she want to go back, to love herself and stop relying on some fake image. That's why they say "love yourself before loving others". And she kills her fake image to start being herself in the end.

For me it's basically... She created the perfect image of herself to be popular. Instead of finding ppl to love Her. She "turned" herself into someone ppl will love. Since its not her. When you do what she did & it works... Well then, I figure impostor syndrome almost manifests ad a person cause literally the "successful person" isn't her. That person is loved. She isn't. That person deserves love. Not her. That kinda thinking

Just some advise- the music is far more important to react to than the lyrics. Unless you want to be a lyric breakdown channel people are expecting you to listen to and talk about the MUSIC. Every % of you attention given to reading lyrics is LOST to listening. I bet you only heard less than half of what happened musically. I'd say for most foreign music reactions you should turn OFF the subs entirely - or try not to pay them much attention. LISTEN!

It’s okay to react to just the lyrics. I’ve seen someone react to this song purely from a musical perspective without taking the lyrics into consideration. It is what it is.
