EDM Producer Reacts To Ren - The Tale of Jenny & Screech (Full) 

Ren is not a dark person. He is just telling us what really happens in the world. He's bringing us awareness of violence and abuse. I think it's genius how he does make us aware. And how people that are abused and history repeats itself. The cycle needs to stop. We should thank Ren for making people think.

In two-zero-zero-five (2005), Violet died in the hospital, but gave birth to twins (Jenny and Screech). With the mother dead, and the father 'Stevie' either in jail or having fled, the system would take over. The twins ended up being separated into the foster care system. They never knew of one another. Fast-forward to 14 years later, and both are basically living on the streets. Screech is now just like his father... a violent thug. And Jenny became a prostitute at a VERY early age (by age 14, she'd already walked those streets a thousand times so the math says her 'career' began at age 11 or 12). And fate took over in a bitterly ironic twist where Screech unknowingly kills his own twin, then gets taken out by the police that same night.

Thats why they call ren a bard, because a bard used to travel around singing news and story's every where the went. Now w call his genre bardcore

A stalactite is the form of pointy dripstone hanging from a cave ceiling. The captions are not always trustworthy: "She was turned to butter in a breath" not "in her breath", meaning she went from stone to butter, rigid to soft. Later, yes, he is Screech looking for a place to hide ( not randomly calling a girl in the middle of the song 🤣). Yes, Jenny and Screech were Violet's twins, but with no one to care for them, went into a care system that obviously separated them. And yes, England has a lot of stabbings. As opposed to the U.S., where we shoot each other instead. I think you need some lighter Ren ----"What You Want" maybe.

It’s so interesting to see your reaction to the Tales. When I showed it to my Dad, he asked me not to show him anymore because this really upset him.

When using captions use Ren's lyrics ! He always pins them...usually in the comments but, once in a while he pins them at the top (very rarely)

Some things to highlight about these tales.. Screech gets his nickname from the sound of sneakers on a gym floor (he was quick on his feet) Jenny is walking home late at night wearing high heeled shoes, something shes done 1000 times before (indicating shes a working street girl at 14 years old) Patrick isn't home when Screech goes to his house, so he call's his girlfriend but shes too busy to have him come over ("something more sinister". Patrick and Screech's girlfriend are busy being together behind Screech's back) this was confirmed by Ren himself. When watching the video's pay attention to the space's Ren choose's to sing him, he is a master of using natural reverb and natural background sounds, the gate in the alley of Jenny's tale, the seagull's in Violets tale, during Violets tale, you can pick up on the reverb whilst he is walking through the corridor and singing in the stairwell. Screech's father was an angry abusive man, just as Screech was to turn into. And Jenny was quiet just like her mother even though they had never met their parents.. The Tales are a social commentary on British society, based "extremely" loosely on a news article Ren read...

Screech called his girlfriend looking for somewhere to hode after his friend Patrick was'nt home. Jenny and Screech were seperated at birth after their mother Violet was killed by Steevie...😊

I knew I loved you when you emoted to "her father was a bastard" that's the kind of reactor I want to watch is someone who actually appreciates the eastern flare to that vocal melody. dunno if you got this answered, A stalactite is the limestone formations in a cave (stalaGmites are from the ground up, stalaCtites are formed from the ceiling). No worries. One of the things about beautiful expressions like this, people often want to know more, so it can inspire on a lot of levels. This is a difficult thing to listen to , I appreciate the fact that he tells this in a variety of old style formats-minstrel, rap, penny dreadful, these are the old forms and especially the minstrel were often the way to inform and educate. Often times, abuse and violence are cross-generational. The only criticism I would have of this, he tells it as if it's a story of poverty, which can adversely affect people, but these issues also follow the rich, as well. Enjoyed your break down. subscribed. I think anything I very much admire about him, perhaps even more than his talent, which is immense. He's authentic. All of the things that he is and done, has brought him to a place of honest humanity. Oh, and he's a wonderful actor, really able to touch those human emotions.

Ren wrote the 1st tale after he saw a news report about a 14 year old boy who was killed4 by police (or after killing someone)? Anyway, he wrote the 1st to try and figure out how 14 could end up in that position. I guess it didn't tie it off because later he wrote Screech's story - wanting to give another view. Later he wrote Violet's ... I guess wanting to show how the system could fail so badly and in some way giving more depth to Screech's life. I can't imagine watching these months apart and trying to follow it all.

If your Mom dies and your Dad goes to jail for killing her, you become an orphan. So they were placed with different families as babies, so they never knew each other.

When Violet died, I'm guessing Stevie (the father of Jenny & Screech) got arrested for murder or manslaughter, Jenny and Screech would have been without any parents and put in to the adoption or foster system and probably split up not knowing they have a twin sibling... Regarding the stabbing and the reported epidemic of knife crime in the UK, the UK stats are 261 knife homicides in one year and 35 gun deaths for a population of 68 million people. When compared to the US the stats don't look so bad i.e. 1,035 knife deaths, but 48,830 gun deaths in the US... I guess knife crime is lower per capita in the US because guns are easier to get hold of, as the stats clearly show.

He is like a modern day bard, it's super sick. Definitely like a folk tale, I'd pay him 5 pence just to jam with him 😂. Idc I'd play along with Cajon, banjo, violin, piano, bass, or guitar just to bard it out with Ren. If it were the 1600's he would have never been slaughtered by the king haha

Some of the most observational reactors wont clue into everything Ren does in his one takes, there is just too much going on with sounds, lights, movement, vocals, etc. Each of these 3 videos are, by the way, uncut one takes recorded live. Ren is self-taught on guitar, using videos of the greats played in slow motion. He also plays many other instruments and does his own production in virtually everything that's not a retake(He was producing beats when he was 12, only started rapping because he couldn't find anyone else to do it for him). Violets tale rewound the hands of time to 2005 (when Jenny and Screech where born). The story touches on generational trauma. You may notice Screech took after his violent, out of control father. Jenny was quiet and reserved like her mother.

I had literature class in middle school. I hated Edgar Allan Poe 's stories. It was always dark or left you hanging in the end with a subtlety that it was Not a good ending. Ren reminds me of him with these dark songs.

Ren usually pins the lyrics as the top comment on his videos. The closed captions miss a lot. Yes, "ganga" is slang for marijuana. A stalactite and stalagmite are geologic formations usually formed in pairs in caves. Water drips from the ceiling slowly over centuries or millennia depositing a small amount of minerals with each drop until you get a long thin deposit hanging from the roof and one rising from the floor. Sometimes they join to form a column. In order to remember which is which, stalactites hang from the ceiling (they hang on "tight") and stalagmites rise from the floor (standing "mighty").

Too often instead of trying to alleviate the broblem, it's easier to sweep it under the carpet and try to ignore it. In the true spirit of a Shakespearean tragedy... "It gets worse..." Violet jumped to the head of the queue for a self contained council flat on moving out at 16... this to me strongly implies that she was pregnant and identifiably so. Stevie considering her sexually available and a slut might be at least in part explained by her very early pregnancy. (not that it excuses him *at all*...) Patrick is not an no. 54, and Babe is at home but 'busy'. It is possible that they are together and are getting busy... Jenny is also between 14 and 15, and has been walking these streets about a thousand times before - in heels and makeup, pausing in front of a graffito which is a 'toblerone' indicating where to lick, she wants to 'escape', and her death is seen as 'at least she escaped' her life. This works out to her having been on the streets for just about 3 years and very likely couch surfing by sexual favours or a full on streetwalker.. The original story was inspired by the stabbing and killing of a prostitute by a 14 year old boy in the news.. The characters and fates outside of that were inventions, grounded in grim-dark reality, and the literary form of tragedy where there is always another darker twist or meaning lying just around that next corner or chance meeting.

He shot Screech because Screech was shouting, swearing, challenging him and attacking him head-on, brandishing a knife. Possibly even a bloody knife, since he'd just killed Jenny. It's not difficult to grasp. You just need to listen. There are a few parts that it's easy to miss, on a first listen but this isn't one of them. :) P.S. This would be incredibly unlikely to occur in the UK, mainly because ordinary policemen don't carry guns AND officers are trained in de-escalation as a primary response and attempted non-lethal restraint, as plan B. Even if firearms officers had been called in, unlikely for such an incident, they would have been highly unlikely to shoot a 14 year old. All that being said, Ren is utilising poetic licence, to make the scene more dramatic and he does so brilliantly! P.S. An incredible statistic, that's stayed with me... US police kill more people, on average, in a single MONTH, than UK police kill in 25 YEARS!

Part of your problem is that the lyrics shown are not always correct. Here it says "and the statue she was turned to butter in her breath". But what he actually says is "and the statue she was turned to butter in a breath". So she was frozen like a stalactite (cave rock formation) and when he swung his blade she turned from rock to butter and was sleeping on the concrete.

Why on Earth would th phone call be "real-life him"??? Firstly, Ren wouldn't behave like that! Secondly, choosing to make a personal and problematic phone call, in the middle of filming a live performance video, would seem pretty unlikely, as it would screw up the whole performance! On the trillion to one shot that he had decided to make that cal in the middle of a live, one take performance, why would he keep it in? It's not that difficult to work out... To be absolutely clear, no, that wasn't Ren making a personal call to his girlfriend, in the middle of live filming/performing. It was Ren playing Screech. Ren's a very convincing actor, so it's somewhat understandable but even so... Really? :)

You’re almost there, the dot you’re missing is that Violet died in childbirth. So we assume Stevie is in prison, Violet’s parents don’t want the kids, so they were sent for adoption and brought up in different homes and didn’t know each other.
