No words for Elis' arrangement and the lighting. Cesar makes us teary-eyed as he did in their cover of I Can't Make You Love Me. All the emotion in their voices and Caesar's expressions breaks the heart.
They crushed this! The emotions Cesar poured out, Eli's arrangement and lighting, Layne's perc was so well done, Geoff looked so vulnerable (he got a little into his body image issues in "I Love Me" but this one felt raw) and he was doing some wild vocal acrobatics down in the basement during the chorus. Then there's Anthony, who is just.... SO GOOD! It's Gar-jew-lah by the way. Italian names can be weird for English since our rules of pronunciation are... well, kinda non-existent. I'm so sorry you've been made to feel like a creep. I really wish the world wasn't so mean. I grew up with two little people in my school, one graduated valedictorian. My sister went to a "special kids school" (as it was called back then) so I was around her classmates of many abilities, birth defects, mental skills, you name it. My sister is off and on in a wheelchair for CP, my mother used a chair due to having polio as a kid, and one of my best friends in high school was paraplegic, so I grew up not thinking much of this. However, later I saw how classmates treated these kids, and it shocked me. I didn't understand why anyone would mock others for physical differences or what abilities they had. If they were my friends, I gave them a stern piece of my mind and a lesson on empathy. If I didn't know them well, I likely cussed them out and belittled them to tears. And if they targeted MY SISTER.... let's just say, it's a good thing I was under age, or I would have been arrested. (You do NOT mess with my sister!)
I recently read a really good thing for us all to remember when we are being self critical. “Why are you worried about what other people think of you? Have you met all those other people? They’re all crazy!” I think most people have moments of self-doubt and feelings of not being good enough. This expressed those feelings so well. The simplicity of the set with the mirror and all that black abyss really put our focus on them.
Gar-jew'-lah. Eli did the arrangement for this one and boy, he did it up right. So glad Cesar started it off - his voice was perfect for the speak/singing and the Anthony took over. Geoff and Layne kept the rhythm and bass. This is beautiful, heartrending, and emotional. It took me back over 50 years when in school and bullies used words to cut like a knife and destroy your image of yourself. Love that the mirror was used so effectively. Gar-joo-lah. The song reflects the alienation we all feel at some point in our life. A deep rejection and yearning to belong all twisted into a depressing confusion of emotions.
Even when someone might look "normal" ( whatever that is) are they? 🤔 Everyone struggles with something and Voiceplay embodied it in the song. After listening to the song I just wanted to run and give them all hugs and tell them that they are perfect just the way they are. Unfortunately, I'm not even close, so I had to make do with my dogs ( both are rescues) and tell them how much I love them and give them treats. Now they here this song and begin wagging their tails expecting treats and scratches.
I love how this video was shot. Particularly the transition from the member seen themselves in the mirror to them on the stools with the lights coming up in the music coming up. As always I love reactions
This was an Eli arrangement! Only the second one he's done for VP that I know off, the last was Eleanor Rigby three years ago and isn't it a fantastic arrangement? Helped by his expert lighting as well, and it sounds like the mirror idea came from Geoff. I've only run across one reactor so far who didn't understand the mirror thing at all, not realizing that it represents how we all 'look' at ourselves and don't like what we see in our bodies or personality or behavior, etc. Glad you caught that awesome cover art also!
Loved this arrangement and Cesar's emotion just kills me. I have also really resonated with this song as an autistic adhd person, I've always felt like an alien and upset people in ways I never understand.

I judge by what's on the inside. My motto is basically the golden rule.... Treat everyone like you want to be treated and the world will be a better place. So to me, you have a big heart and awesome personality. Which in my book you're a big person. But I agree the term you use... Little person. Rather than dwarf, midget, etc.

This so phenomenally fantastic!! These guys can do anything and turn it into gold. Had to grab me a box of tissues for this one. Cesar killed it with his emotions, Eli did amazing with this arrangement. I have no words. I mean They all put so many emotions into this song. I was crying through most of it. I didn't know this song, so I listened to the original after watching the VoicePlay video. And I could see how they respected the original while adding their own characteristics. They always do.
Unlike most people it's when Anthony starts to sing in this that I get the chills. His voice says it all. But the whole thing is so emotional. I agree, those voices coming in behind Geoff are just stunning. This arrangement was by Eli, he does them sometimes, and it's amazing, though the mirror idea was from Geoff. We all feel that way at times I think, some of us feel like it all the time, so we identify with the feelings expressed so beautifully here. Geoff always wanted a more muscular body, Cesar is gay, Anthony has looks that aren't classically handsome, Eli is short, (not as short as you admittedly but still a good bit shorter than average, as am I ) and I don't know about Layne.. Autistic people too are often considered weird. So I am a weirdo too. It's pronounced as Garjoola by the way.

I was seriously thinking I couldn't do a reaction video (especially for voiceplay) because I'd just spend the whole time trying to sing along (especially with Eli's riffs. He is a master) and people'd be like, "Um, we're here to listen to them, not you." 😂
