Her approach towards piano playing has helped me a lot, especially in gaining speed and reducing muscular tension. Most of my technical problems were solved after watching her videos, so I'm very grateful for her sharing of her accumulated skills and expertise in piano playing.

Slightly baffled at everyone’s annoyance at lack of performance footage from Edna. She is literally demonstrating as she explains... Study with a Taubman teacher, study the research. This isn’t a weird cult theory, it’s knowledge, the approach works. I am a professional concert pianist- I have been training in Taubman approach for two years now and it has been life changing. Cx

Yes, her demonstration of how to play the passages is more than enough to convince me that she can play the pieces.

....After seeing many videos of her, lecturing about things I find difficult to believe in ..., I would love to see her for once actually playing this etude brilliantly, as well as all the other pieces pieces bring to her...., that would be the most powerful evidence that what she preaches actually work......

His concerns are completely valid. There are so many approaches to technique, the Taubman approach, Barbara Lister-Sink's "Freeing the Caged Bird", Andover Educators, all using varying degrees of Alexander Technique, Feldenkrais method, yatta yatta. It goes on and on. I've suffered from tendonitis in both forearms for 15+ years now. It has completely ruined my ability to pursue the kind of piano playing that I was pursuing in college. I simply couldn't practice the way that one has to be able to in order to achieve that level of ability. It has been completely devastating. Then I hear stories about people who have been injured and recovered using one of these supposedly life changing methods. So I buy books and I watch videos and I've made certain adjustments over the years that have sort of helped maybe a little bit. But it's so hard to find people to teach you directly, and even then, it's so expensive. I was actually fortunate enough to have a consultation with 2 andover educators, free of charge, which I was certainly thankful for, but I left even more confused! And the methods are often conflicting. All of these different ideas about the muscles, bones, tendons, the entire structure of the hand, forearm, all the way to the back and legs, and how they function, and what's the best way to engage and use them to play the piano. One person says this, another person says that. It's a nightmare! And all we wanna do is just play the piano without pain, god dammit! I've discussed these issues with people before and a couple times I've gotten the response of, "Oh, I know a guy who had similar issues. He retrained his movements and he's fine now." MUST BE NICE!!! Music is everything...I don't know, it's so deeply depressing. You just get older and older and the realization that you'll never be able to play your favorite pieces sinks in more and more. In my teens I had this dexterity and facility, I felt like anything I will eventually be able to work my way up to. No longer! Oh well...

Was running through this after curiosity and couldn't ignore your comments (I'm not even pianist, just a curious musician) As you both, I also had in the past lots of problems related to pain and technique, etc. First: I went to have Alexander technique lessons and they worked wonders to me. For pain issues, can't think of anything greater than that. It helps to free your joints and modifies your conception of movement. Takes a lot of time and dedication though. You're chaging habits of years and years, almost reprogramming your system. Second: for technical issues related to your instrument, I advise you NOT to care about all these specific methods of piano with defined principles. Just find out what the specific problem is, to which parts of your body it is related (possible connections of tension between fingers and pain/stiffness in shoulders, neck, etc, for example) and work it out for yourself. See how it works better for you, for your own goals on music, and then repeat these habits a lot, everyday, during lots of days, to engrain in your system. Sometimes people just don't repeat enough. People want to score a goal without practicing shooting balls. You're your own school.

"I would love to see her for once actually playing this etude brilliantly" yeah, good luck with that, with this etude or any other. Try finding any performance of hers of any piece in existence. She's like a TV evangelist.

jaspernatchez I feel you man, lol. Imagine working throughout all this etude with this method :p "single, single, double" ... crazy. People, go watch and listen the true pros (L. Berman, Horowitz, Cziffra, to name a few). That's where music fully resides

THere must be a pony.....with all this s#*t around. The principle is not bad but it can be said in one sentence. She has really parlayed this into a lucrative industry. Wish she had demonstrated its application by playing the etude. Too many “how- tos” out here who who talk a good choreography but don’t dance,

The number of defenders needed to advocate the stance of Taubman in the face of divided opinion makes the supporters appear cultish. Perhaps the lack of recordings by her prove that making those recordings publicly available, would inevitably undo and discredit the efficacy of her pedagogy. She went to Juiiliard, so what does she have to lose if she provides evidence for the mastery of the fundamentals of technique? Provide an astounding recording. If I were a master I would be burning to show others.

She is selling the Taubman method. Taubman was her teacher, she should mention that instead of that marketing she is making to her site.

Literally the first sentence on her website is, "The Golandsky Institute is the preeminent center for the teaching of the Taubman Approach."

What a farce ! who listens to this clownish nonsense.....? if at the end she would actually play the etude, I would be less harsh, but I can tell she can't play it.....and I'll be delighted to be proven wrong

Please, don't say in that way. Have you made your own research of how this technic works? Do you truly understand every component of it, like difference between single and double rotation, what walking hand and arm means, what is shaping or grouping? Did you really spend time on practicing this etude? Did you study "the virtuosity in a box" 10 DVD lectures? There is enormous amount of information. If no, please, leave your opinion to yourself. I'm studying this approach by myself only by her videos for 3 years till now, and still rewatching constantly. My playing changes drastically and i'm able to play ALL of Chopin etude now without ANY KIND OF TROUBLES! Make your own prove! Put your ass down to the bench and take your time learning. Don't waste your time writing comments on what you have no idea about.

Lol. She can definitely play it. I study with someone who studies with Golandsky, who can demonstrate insanely difficult passages from any piece I bring to her off the top of her head, without preparation. My teacher speaks about Golandsky as though Golandsky is to her what she is to me.

You explained nothing and did play nothing at all. Very difficult people will buy your dvd seeing this kind of video. Even a principiant can do a video in this way using whatever world he wants!
