This is part 1 of my full build video for the Eduard 1/48 P-400 Airacobra. This is the initial release and comes with nose weight and vinyl masks, I have used the Eduard photo etch upgrade set too. / championscalemodelling
Really enjoyed your build and your honesty about the kits and your own mistakes. We all make them but is is always interesting in how you fix the problems. Thanks again for all your great builds. Building the Air-A-Cutie now so love your insight. Thanks
Glad you enjoyed it mate, I see you’ve been churning a few builds out, glad you’re enjoying the hobby! Hope to get an all at see build going but it’s looking unlikely at the minute 😬👍
Ha! I am glad it is not just me that makes the mistake of switching the camouflage colours. I did it on my Tamiya 1/48 FW190’s Wings. It caused that build to grind to a holt . You did well to re do it.
Nice build video. Thank you for making and uploading it, Jason. Here's a good tip : use Tamiya's X-22 clear instead of Micro Kristal Klear. It is anything but crystal clear...!! And it is ordinary wood glue !!! Yes, it's a scam. We pay top dollar for a spoon full of wood glue. For the same money you can get a big bottle of wood glue. At least ten times the amount. I used and compared both. MKK and wood glue. They both perform identically. I could not tell the difference !! From now on, you'd better use X-22. First, paint all dials with X-22, in a fairly thin layer. Let it dry. Then place a drop of X-22 on each dial. Make sure all drops are convex, but do not exaggerate. Let it dry overnight under a plastic box, or something. Leave a small gap, for ventilation. The next morning, behold the miracle. Looks FAR better than MKK, right......???!!! Warning : before you apply the clear, make sure the instrument panel has fully dried AND cured ! Even though X-22 is acryllic, the solvents can still affect the painted instruments. That's why you have to apply a thin layer, first.
Pretty sure Micro Krystal Clear isn't "ordinary good glue". Yes it is a repackaged industrial glue, most probably bulk OEM WELDBOND from my experience of its bonding & drying characteristics. Ordinary aliphatic resin and PVA wood glues don't dry clear. Aliphatic resin wood glues more frequently than not contain a dye and dry opaquely whilst many alternative white liquid PVAs are hygroscopic and are never clear. WELDBOND does dry clear, only needs a minuscule application, works with acetate and plastics, forms a superior bond and sets up faster than PVA. Micro Krystal Klear's observable characteristics and properties are identical to WELDBOND and Pacer Formula '560' Canopy glue (which if not manufactured by Pacer themselves, is just a rebadged repackaged OEM WELDBOND IMPE. Yes, it can be had cheaper in that package, but for most plastic modellers in the minuscule volumes they will use, the convenience and comfort (security of mind) in buying Krystal Klear from a trusted brand like Micro products is a no brainer. Easy, and it works. Same with R/C modellers and Pacer's Canopy Glue. Try that with an aliphatic resin or PVA wood glue and see how long that acetate canopy stays on in flight!
I always mix a little white 10% -15% into my brown and greens to represent fading in that hot tropical sun. Enjoying watching your build with great interest. Is that the Sutton seat belt used by the RAF?. If so it was probably originally destined for RAF before being redirected to to SWPA and Guadalcanal. Desperate days back then. Cheers....🍻🇦🇺 Graham

The nose ballast only came supplied in the initial release editions of the P-400/P-39 Eduard kits, which were at the time, the equivalent of the Profikit segment which was to come later. Current P-39/P-400 Profikit and Weekend Edition kits don't include it. A generic substitute not many are aware of which works well for our purposes are R/C C of G trim balance weights. They are a non-toxic metal stick-on weight which come in a snap off bar pack of small accurate weight increments. They can be had at any good R/C aircraft supplies shop.
Thank for the reply, although a little late I finished my P-39 last month. But yeah I used some steel stirring balls as ballast. But I’m definitely gonna try out Liquid Gravity by Deluxe Materials!
