Welcome to the Scale Modelling Cafe. This video is part 1 of the new project, Eduard's Me 109G-14/AS in 1:48. This is the Overtrees boxing, and in the video I explain which after market bits I will use, and what I am aiming to achieve with the model. In the video I can't make up my mind which markings to do it in, but as I type this I know which scheme I'm going to do!

Hi Jamie, I have the same Overtrees and Montex masks. This aircraft was shot down during Bodenplatte, and there are a few photos of it on the internet. The colours are a bit contentious, with some respected opinions saying it was RLM 74, 75 and 76 (yawn). I would love to go for the late war sky coloured RLM 76 (RLM 84?), if only to get use out of the bottle of MRP. Interestingly, Eduard covered this scheme in their discontinued Bodenplatte boxing and have it as 74, 75 and 76, with the underside purely RLM 76 (yawn again). I am tempted to go for the Montex interpretation, but the weight of opinion will probably have me going for the boring option, but with NMF and RLM 76 undersides, as no picture shows the underside.

Hi Dave, yeah, I've also done the research and got a load of photos. I'm going to do what I quite often do and that's do a fictitious aeroplane from the same unit. I'm probably going to do White 3 and have a 1/3 white spinner.

I guess the heavy exhaust staining could also be partly due to the quality of the lower octane synthetic fuel being used at the end of the war?

I like the idea of the Overtrees but the postage costs from Eduard are twice the price of the kit to the UK. It is cheaper to buy the Weekend Edition from a UK supplier. Or am I missing something here?

It's cost effective if you buy a load, and even more if you can share the postage with a mate.

No, you're right about shipping/tax costs now. When they have an offer on, and you want something in that offer, it is possible to get a bit of a saving, but it's easy for that saving to get frittered away on things like stencil sets. The Weekend Editions are really good value though
