Millions of girls in India lead unequal lives. Is there a way women empowerment can be done in India? Is it possible? Dr. Urvashi tells you what she did and how you can do it. Dr Urvashi Sahni is the World Economic Forum's India Social Entrepreneur of the Year, 2017. She is a women rights activist and educationist working for over three decades. Dr. Sahni is an Ashoka Fellow, a non-resident fellow at the Center for Universal Education at The Brookings Institution, USA and is currently a member of Chief Minister's Advisory Council, Rajasthan.
Dr. Urvashi also founded Suraksha, a women rights organisation; DiDi's - a social enterprise for sustainable livelihoods for women and the Study Hall Educational Foundation (SHEF). Through its schools and outreach initiatives, SHEF has trained 24,000 teachers and impacted more than 5 lakh children, most of whom are girls from disadvantaged communities. SHEF directly provides education to over 4000 students.
Dr. Urvashi is a leading expert in school governance, curriculum reform and teacher training with a special focus on girls’ education. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Mam I've always wanted a daughter to be my 1st child and I promise to raise her without any discrimination. I'll make her a strong independent person, let her wear whatever she wants, do whatever she wants to. She will never have to take others permission to do what she wants to🙌🙏

My father never discriminated between me and my two younger brothers. All three of us received higher education and are in reputed jobs. After listening all such type talks I feel immense respect for my father and I am proud of him.

To break the patriarchy system we must not only educate & empower our girls but educate our boys to treat them equally.

I'm proud to say that I've been taught at her institution. Free of sexism. She is one strong voice, which needs to be heard by the whole world. As a Cornell student, I'm proud of where i come from today - Study Hall. Urvashi ma'am will always hold high regard in my mind, and am so proud to have come from her place as i show this to my class.

We at NSTEM work in America to get girls and boys, men and women, interested in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) fields. This video opens eyes to the struggles of education in India. The fact that "one-third of all the world's child slaves are in India" is devastating and needs to be addressed. We agree that the solution is education, not just of math and science but also equality. In addition, Laxmi's story was so encouraging and inspiring. Thanks for posting this wonderful video.

Treat other girls as sister and mother. And special court should also establish to punish. And save our boys to make them respect girls.
