Every photographer, and workflow is unique, your XF Camera should be too.
No two approaches to creativity are the same. No two photographers use a camera in the same way. While almost any camera can provide “user settings”, the XF is designed to provide a completely distinct user experience for all camera controls.
The XF Camera was not only designed to improve over time with added features and functions, but to allow the photographer to program the cameras features, almost entirely, to meet their specific needs.
The display of the camera, the function of each button, the visibility of tools & menus, focus, drive mode, metering, etc.
All the features that can aid a photographers workflow can be customized literally, at their fingertips.
Our webinar will illustrate 3 examples of how the features and functions of the XF can be optimized for:
Landscape Photography
Handheld Photography
Studio/Fashion Photography
Join Product Manager Drew Altdoerffer for a webinar discussing these three setups, and the reasons and power behind the wealth of options available in the XF Camera.

Amazing system, no medium format camera has the same luxury as Phaseone, they have true 645 medium format that the least good thing you can say about Phaseone.

I appreciate that Drew is trying to stuff a lot of information into an hour, but as someone who is aware of but not overly familiar with the XF camera I'd say that he moved with the familiarity of someone highly experienced with the camera (and not someone who is learning) and that he talked about what he was doing but didn't demonstrate what he was doing. The difference is between, "We do A and B and C..." and "We begin by pressing this button; that gets us to..." It may not be necessary to crawl at that basic level for the entire webinar, but I'd suggest it would be better to begin there at least.

I totaly understand your point. I think the reason Drew is not explaining into detail why he is doing a b c and how is because he is explaining it to professionals already using the phase one system.

a tip, if you want an experts eye on the system, there are 3 or 4 fantastic XF vs XT who each is for, and technical feature walkthroughs that Drew does on the Phase one site, excelent depth, etc, and as a side note, I do have Autism, and clearly understand his explinations, esp. when in these videos a limited topic is discussed, and in full depth of what is what, with an understanding he Does this for ADVANCED pro photographers, as this system is a $60,000AUD investment from NEW!! so you do 'get what you pay for'. (they even include pelican cases and organisers esp. for the purpose).

this one shot AE is a nice idea, simmilar to a film photographer using a light meter ( they ask the computer: what do you think about this scene?) and the 'tech' answers the question, WITHOUT getting in the way of manual operation/simplicity of camera control. All this is doing is giving you a start, without resigning control of settings, like iso, apature but setting it, and "turning the auto-pilot off again", so if flash, or other things like cloud cover, movement, etc changes the settings stay the same.

Great new video thanks. I have the IQ3 back for my XF camera and I feel like you have forgotten all us that invest in this expensive back since hardly any video are made about this and no improving updates are coming to the back anymore?

Damn! I am saving up to get the IQ3 Trichromatic. And you say no meaningful updates are coming. YIKES! I can't afford the IQ4, just yet. I was getting my lenses first (35mm, 80mm mkII and 240mm all blue ring), but I will need a digital back soon.

one thing to note, Drew, most photographers use the term Back_button_focus, or "AF-ON", as in Nikon 35 mm format digital slr/mirrorless system users, so if you use afr, maybe an explination first as this is what it is, so we know, as from my basic understanding of the xf system, I first thought you were meaning Auto-Frame-AdveRaging when you said AFr , until you clarified it at 47:09 !!!!
@andyvan5692

Drew, you also forgot one other ( subtle, but valid) advantage of a focal plane shutter, the fact it PROTECTS the sensor during a lens change!, letting any dust fall on the mirror/baffel plate, NOT the expensive sensor surface :-)))

Hail to that. ANd on that note. Pros and cons of non LS lenses and what options are there?
@andyvan5692
@andyvan5692 3 года назад
@@nelsonclub7722 only two or three options, that I at least am aware of: focal plane(Fp); Compour (leaf); Cap, ie in old LF cameras used the lens cap itself + timer. the main Pro of Focal plane shutters is that they have a 1/8000th second max speed, wheras (due to physics) Leaf shutters are limited to 1/400 or 1/500th, Except some Linhof branded leaf shutters they used in their tecknica cameras, which went to 1/1,000th but as far as I am aware these are quite rare. the majour Con is that the Fp's have two curtains, or a roll of sheet cloth/metal with slits in it, hence the disadvantage of flash sync, ie light banding when shot too fast, (old 35 mm format{1/40 \ 1/60 \ 1/125}or DSLR{1/125 ->1/250th [High speed sync]}) .

The XF system is, unfortunatly, still beyond my price point... but I recently picked up a Phaseone df+, p65+ and the 80mm blue ring lens... and find that to be a fantastic workhorse...

Slow down, man! And using a wide overhead view of the total camera body while you’re buzzing through menus on that tiny display is useless. As an XF owner since it was introduced I wanted to see if I could pick up some tips I didn’t already know….and I did. But the rhythm and design of such a detailed presentation really needs to be much better considered and rehearsed and refined BEFORE delivery, not winged.

Thanks Drew! This is very helpful to see how I can really customize the XF for my particular Landscape usage, employing all of the specific features that make the XF valuable.

Drew one other advantage of the focal plane shutter (and mirror system) is it's associated baffels in front of the sensor, which acts as a protection for it, as the mirror and shutter blades/curtain have to be retracted to get to the sensor, so it also protects against dust, when changing lenses.

I love the system and the camera 📸 however, still have a problem with the focus. I used to use a DSLR cameras that have many focus point one hand . One the other , hand XF has a center focus point. I was practicing the AFR but the focus wasn’t accurate. For example , when I capture a pic of person who sits on the chair and do AFR, the focus comes to the chair instead of the face !! I am trying to solve this problem but it doesn’t work with me! Can you help me ?
