LNP MP Keith Pitt says the education system is "broke" and in "need of fixing" as the Albanese government overhauls the student debt scheme.
Mr Pitt told Sky News Australia he agrees with Education Minister’s Jason Clare’s view on paid practical work placements.
A new Commonwealth payment for an estimated 68,000 students studying nursing, teaching and social work is currently being established.
“Jason Clare is on to something when it comes to pracs,” Mr Pitt said.
“Social work, for example you do a 17 week prac, 9-5 five days a week, all of that for free, on top of that you get a HECS bill that subject for $9,000.
“I don’t think social work pays all that extraordinarily well.
“I think the systems broken and it does need to be reviewed and fixed.”

Student debt????What about the school system that is suffering it's own debt with "contracted Labour" ! As soon as the protectionist, unionised policy of retaining permanent staff over newer, contracted teachers is put to bed, the sooner we will see a change in the education system.

Its madness not to make use of our reserves of coal, gas, and uranium. Thanks to the 'Simpsons', people are put off on the thought of Nuclear waste. Though with our vast open country, a well set up facility would be a boost to the economy.
