Born in Whitchurch in Shropshire in 1862, Edward German became one of the county's most accomplished and popular composers. Knighted in 1928 for his contribution to music, German was a member of a distinguished company of composers that included Sir Edward Elgar. In 2006 his home town commemorated the 70th anniversary of his death with a major Festival. This programme presents the story of his life and music in 5 parts, concluding with the preparations for and performances of the first Sir Edward German Festival.
