I love the way the different Northampton manufacturers all have their own niche within this niche market. It's a fascinating industry, with wonderful products.

The EG rep is just adorable with the polished head and mistracking eyes. I am so glad he was able to get a good job like this. I can imagine many bosses saying "we can't have a guy who can't see straight representing our company" But obviously, this guy just somehow turns it into a positive... (How does he do that? .. when the camera catches him head on, he looks absolutely adorable! )

Edward Green is in my opinion one of the most comfortable elegant shoe in the planet; I have only one pair in brown, which are nabsolutely astonishing. I can dress it up and I can dress it down. I love the Galway boots; I live in RI the closest Edward Green store is in NY, since sizing is very important I am planning to visit the store, I am sure and confident it will be worthy. Investing in high quality shoes elevate the appearance of any man. Like someone said “if you want to know if a man is well dressed, look down”

Is it actual alligator, or is it a stamped cow leather?
@BradyBegeman
@BradyBegeman 5 лет назад
@@Ematched It's definitely real alligator. I feel that $2600 is probably light for an alligator shoe, I'm sure the standard calf or suedes are $2600 for this line, but the alligator must be $5000+.

The "Top Drawer" finishing was always something I was interested in, and to be fair it IS beautifully done, however I personally have a hard time "rationalizing" it. At that price for an MTO shoe+Top Drawer uncharge, I feel like you're well into more than 50% of the cost of a bespoke shoe from say, Cleverley (whose pricing is at £3,000 as of this writing). I suppose the daunting wait time for bespoke shoes in addition to the multiple fitting session process could turn someone away, however at this point in my life I think I would opt for ONE pair of bespoke shoes to TWO MTO's at this price point. Still, they ARE beautiful and getting a beautiful pair of the HIGHEST quality non-bespoke shoes custom made, with this level of finish, and delivered in only a few months, definitely has appeal. The older I get however, the more I look at my more outlandish MTO commissions over the years and think, "Today I'd rather have ONE pair of beautiful, bespoke black oxfords to any of these others."
@stedye
@stedye 5 лет назад
Myles Kusab agree with you !! I invested in a Cleverly bespoke when I lived in NYC and that shoe survived almost 15 years and if not for an unfortunate rip that George Glasgow said was beyond repair they would have made it past 25 or more.

is the split toe necessary for that design to be able to pull it over the last? it doesn't seem like an aesthetic choice as the handwork almost hides it completely. could someone elaborate on this?

I would say on the higher end of ready to wear shoes. A little overpriced perhaps, but you do get a good quality pair of shoes for that price
@kaikaichen
@kaikaichen 5 лет назад
I've always assumed they're at or around the same RTW quality level as John Lobb (Paris), Gaziano & Girling, Cleverley, etc.
@EdilarinProducts
@EdilarinProducts 5 лет назад
@@kaikaichen They're not. Those other makes them 100% by hand, EG uses machinery in their process. Bespoke shoe makers generally also makes higher quality RTW shoes, where they just skip the measurement part and goes straight to creating the shoe. So the quality of the shoe is the same as a bespoke one but it just won't fit as well.
@kaikaichen
@kaikaichen 5 лет назад
@@EdilarinProducts: I'm pretty sure that a completely 100% made-by-hand pair of shoes would cost tens of thousands of dollars, so I don't think your claim is accurate. Plus, in Kirby's video tour of G&G's Northampton factory with Tony Gaziano himself, the machines used in their shoemaking process were clearly shown and featured. I'm also pretty sure Edward Green makes bespoke shoes as well.

Why are you, Kirby, so into English style? Is it the most suitable for you, or you just really enjoy it? Are you planning to make that sort of videos about craftsman or brands from Italy or France?
@iaido01
@iaido01 3 года назад
because england has the best build shoes for the price. but italy has only a very few good shoemakers. most italian shoes focus on style an patina that they forget that the build quality is also important. the only italian shoes i would buy RTW are enzo bonafe/bontoni/Antonio Meccariello/Paolo Scafora and Stefano Bemer

When you pay because of the brand name. Alden imho is worth the price compared to EG. Also Allen Edmonds with their quality is hard to beat in terms of pricing.
@kirbyallison
@kirbyallison 5 лет назад
It's a difficult conversation once you get into price/quality quotients. EG and GG are definitely on the expensive side at the $1000+ price point. But you cannot argue with the quality. Alden is really great, but, to me, the finish just isn't there. Quality shoe, but lacks the finishing and elegance of GG/EG.

I've been lucky on a few thrift excursions... So I have a pair of Edward Green dover and Alden 1340 shell Chukkas. You could make the argument that Alden is nearly up there with EG. The finish detail on the Dovers is a bit more detailed imho. I have never seen a pair of Allen Edmonds come close to EG... Shell or otherwise. Again, just imho.

1 tip. quality is in the places that you moest of the time can't see. leather threatment/hand stitching/ build quality/leather quality. buy 1 allen and 1 EG wear them the same amount in a year. and see the difference in 10 years. EG will look waaaaaay better

Hello Edward green executive... Pack and send pair's of loafers with buckle belts (brown.. tan.. black.. match to dhothis) to NYC.. you don't have shop there.. send to Warren / Helu executives in NYC. You can cut off marketing executive's salary and send flights to somewhere around the world.. authorised stores.. But the limitations is from your end. if one Marketing executive have salary of 50k.. and flight charges.. acomadations That amount of salary you can spend your money to flight delivery charges.. FedEx.. Amazon.. then from the airport the postal department employees can distribute it.. the goods around the world with it weight and quality. Praveen Bhaskar.
