Materials needed:
8½” x 11” white cardstock (1 per child)
8½” x 11” manila cardstock (1 per child)
Black marker (1 per child)
Set of crayons (1 per child)
Low-moisture glue or paste (as needed)
Edward Hicks Mini Book, printed and pre-folded on 8½” x 11” copy paper (1 per child): bit.ly/3DgSf2T
Process:
1. Line a ruler up with the edge of the manila cardstock and trace it with a black marker. Repeat on each side of the paper.
2. Write words about peace on each side of the frame.
3. Cut out the center of the frame.
4. Write name on the back of the white cardstock with black marker.
5. Draw peaceful wild animals, tame animals, and a child on the right side of the drawing space with black marker.
6. Draw people doing peaceful things on the left side of the drawing space with black marker.
7. Draw landscape details with black marker.
8. Color the drawing with crayons.
9. Glue finished frame on top of the final drawing.
10. Display the artwork, talk about peace, and review the mini books.
Modifications for young children:
--Instead of children tracing their own frame and cutting it out, adult prints a frame template onto manila cardstock and cuts the center out ahead of time.
