Edward is such a real fan I love him for it - and on top of that he's a Frusciante fan - so he's my new best friend and it's okay if he doesn't know that but it's a fact lol. He's also right - they felt like Jazz musicians on these albums especially ROTDC which is probably the best compliment you can give someone who puts their entire soul into their music - you really hear all the ways they've grown while at the same time falling back into what makes them the RHCP.
And Ed Norton derailed AHX's production so far away from Tony Kaye's vision that he didn't want his name associated with it anymore - AFAIK Norton made it a better movie, but it's still worth noting.
It's so nice to from hear someone else who's been so deeply moved by this music as I've been.. especially such a talented artist like Ed Norton..The Red Hot Chili Peppers have really made such a deep and magical connection.. I'm still overwhelmed by it..& I love it.
Wow he is definitely a fan. White Braids & Pillow Chair is such a beautiful song and one of my favorite RHCP songs. I’m glad he highlights it I think it is a really underrated song. Fruciante really makes you feel the music. The way Norton describes Fruciante’s style is exactly how I feel when I listen to them and why he is my favorite guitarist.
Anybody who does it for so long is obviously the real deal and deserves respect. Their most recent records are the type you put away for a few years, revisit it later on and hear it anew and over time, you start to realise the genius of it.
When one of my favorite actors analyses one of my favorite band... i'm impressed by his knowledge of their records. Glad to hear we share the same view on UL.
Edward understands the same things I love about John and the band. The people that think John is overrated are missing that part of the brain we fans have. Sucks for them.
In 2022, I went to Paris France, to see the band for the first time in another country than my own. I stood about 10m from the front barrier, and after RHCP came to the stage, I spotted Edward Norton on the side stage, standing next to.. Brad Pitt. I don't know if they already happened to be there that day or that they went there specifically to see the band, but it was really cool to see them witness the RHCP together with us all.
I wouldve never been able to put the words to these thoughts but man is he spot on. I love white braids. Had to learn it from the get go. And the end of the second album is amazing. In the snow is such a feeling. And carry me home is a banger
Edward Norton is one of my favourite actors ever and the Red Hot Chili Peppers are by far my favourite band ever so…. This really really warms my heart.
Wow! This couldn’t have been described any better. I Love the descriptions of their the sound and the connection between the bandmates. Luv it! Thx for sharing.
The power of the creative mind is amazing, whether it is Music, acting, painting, sculpting, photography basically any art form. When you can feel and understand what the creators intentions are, and get his message, basically, when it clicks ,there is just a satisfaction from the recipient that’s hopefully as great as the creators. PS Ed Norton Is amazingly complex, and I love and respect him for it❤️
What a great back & fourth , just my kind of Dude but the 1st thing I think everytime I see Is the scene that taught me about steet curbs and the dudes teeth 🤤🎬
Def one of my favorite if not my favorite band. After 40 years they are still evolving and maturing as musicians and their music always makes me feel like a happier human being. The last two albums, Unlimited Love and ROTDC, have fueled my joy for most of the past two years. I think they are both great records and I am thankful the boys gave us 2 1/2 hours of new RHCP. Funny thing is I always thought there were three really distinct records in the two releases. I started playing around with playlists and came up with this breakout. Although there are hints of all their styles on each one, broke them down generally as 1) a solid contemporary RHCP rock album 2) Vintage Chili's funk rock 3) An alternative and experimental gem full of surprises and feels like the guys are just having fun and creating whatever they want. If you are as big a fan as I am and you felt like you had exhausted the new material or if you felt like some of the tracks didn't 100% keep the vibe of the album going, I invite you to try this breakout below. This helped me get a little more juice from the 2022 vines and I hope the same for anyone who tries it out this way. Have fun! DISC 1- Return of (the tabernacle of Rock) Black Summer The Great Apes Carry Me Home Tippa My Tongue Reach Out Eddie It's Only Natural Here Ever After These Are the Ways The Heavy Wing Veronica DISC 2 - Unlimited Love (of The Funk of Soul) Aquatic Mouth Dance Peace and Love She's a Lover White Braids & Pillow Chair Shoot Me a Smile Bella Watchu Thinkin' Fake as Fu@k Handful Let 'Em Cry One Way Traffic Tangelo DISC 3 - The Dream Canteen (and the alt of jesuits) The Drummer Roulette Copperbelly Not the One Afterlife My Cigarette Bastards of Light Bag of Grins La La La La La La La La Poster Child In the Snow
100% agree with Edward. I started listening to the peppers during the Mothers Milk era, Unlimited Love would be my favourite record after BSSM. It’s class.
John picks beautiful notes. Very colorful. I started playing guitar because of his stadium Arcadium work in 2006. Been a fan since 89 when a coworker brought in an album called mothers milk. I worked at a fast food restaurant and when we closed for the night we cranked up the volume on the intercom while we cleaned the grill and kitchen. The chili peppers are great.
Very humbling to hear Ed describe the envy he feels in those last minutes. Takes a lot of courage to admit that not only to yourself but broadcasted for the whole world to hear.
It’s just also crazy that they have consistently put out *blow your mind great music* w the four of them together. On every level. There are plenty of bands who had some years to just be iconic and great at music, but, understandably, failed to keep it at such excellent quality with new material. Like newer stuff is an attempt to stay relevant and not really for the art- but those bands (Rolling Stones , GnR, …Pearl Jam, I’m sorry :/, and not to say their music isn’t good, but it really isn’t in the same arena as RHCP.)- those iconic bands could just play a greatest hits tour. Not the chili peppers at all. Continuously gifting our ears w the most satisfying music.
For those who never listened to John Frusciante's solo works: Listen to them! "The Empyrean" (2009), "The Will to Death" (2004), "Inside of Emptiness" (2004), etc. He almost never did anything to promote those records, never toured solo, but he's so versatile, inspired, and his vocals seem so sincere... I love him, really, more than RCHP, actually.
This is gold. To paraphrase what he said which I agree with every cell in me for a (real/true) artist for one you’ll never know when we are writing of ourselves and you’ll never know what moment we captured of you, what melody and beat will come from that image when it “gestates” it can happen in 3 mins and that’s magic when it does and it can take 2 decades. To forge a song is like trying to dress a 2 yr old in a tux. True art is magic in this way as it transcends what we can explain or measure. In a word… InEffable, which is the secret of the super virgins power.
I’m not hearing a lot of these descriptions come through. Maybe I need to give it another go? Because listening to this dude talk it sounds like I’m missing the best record of the last 20 years?
For anyone who has seen the Chili peppers live enough times...and still dont realize that they are a studio creation band...then you dont have much of an ear for tonal musicians. They may stumble upon some hot pockets live...and knock off an occasional full show set...but for the most part...theyre all show and no go as a tight musical band. Theyre MTV personified. If it wasnt for technology tricks and backing track cheating...they are an above average ACT at best. Bassist and drummer are great individual players but rarely groove live. Sad but true. And the singer couldnt carry a tune in a suitcase. But the girls love him so hats off.
