@Out2gecha2 - ok, you do realize that you are still missing one of the best songs from this entire album, right ? Namely, I am referring to "I must confess" - Edwin leads it ! Thanks for posting
I read that Joel Smith was only 13 when he played drums on this album. He was well seasoned and also a strong inspiration to me when I started playing drums at 13 forty years ago
Of course I love the Hawkins family, but I wanna get my math straight. An article I read listed his birth date as December 6, 1959, which would have made Joel 16 at the time of this recording (June 27, 1976). STILL an amazing feat for someone so young, but could somebody confirm?
You are correct Joel was 16 at the time of this album. I was born May 1957. I was really impressed because at his age his skills in playing drums was much higher than mine as being a drummer.
@Out2gecha2 -wow-are you serious-my good friend Joel Smith was only 13 when he played on this album-was anybody surprised this little kid was playing like that? Please share!
@Out2gecha2 -Did Jamie play on that album too-When Joel and I began talking I was amazed when he told me he was only 13 years old when he played on the Wonderful album. I would have give anything to have seen that-this album to me is the greatest gospel album I have ever heard. I love Walter's stuff but this album from song number one to the end is just awesome
I adore Mother Shirley Miller, she is my favorite Gospel Singer. Met her on one occasion, she and The Hawkins Family music has gotten me through some rough times. God Bless them all, Come on Children is one of my all time favorites.
@Out2gecha2 -The most impressive thing about Joel now that we are friends is he has such a humble spirit. For a little boy who wanted to play like Joel Smith, to meet him and be able to get tips from him is a dream come true. My question is, was anyone shocked that Joel played like that on the night of the recording? You had to be! lol
