It is awesome and it's good because IMHO it helps to make people care about animals and their habitats. I hope it doesn't stress the animals out too much though to be caught and handled.. these are wild animals, remember, who probably expect to be eaten when a human or anything catches them. I don't mean that they get PTSD, I mean they have physical stress during the time he is holding them. I don't think it is too harmful as long as he is quick about it though since most animals are used to fighting for survival every day, but it still makes me a bit concerned for them.

Ahah we have such a bad rep but as long as you have common sense you'll be fine. My garage is sorta filled with red-back spiders (can be deadly) but as long as I check things before I touch/move them I'm fine! Most of the super deadly things you see on tv and youtube only hurt people when they don't research before coming here. Most of the time you won't even find these things unless you go lookin for em!

The other critters were also cool, but the eel for whatever reason just really made me excited to learn more about them (snowflake eels. My friend actually had one he found who was not doing too good and gave to an expert to rehabilitate and later let go but I didn't remember the proper name for them. We didn't know it when we found him, but they aren't super exotic, even PetCo sells them, which makes me nervous because setting up a saltwater tank or any tank takes some knowledge and trial and error and I worry for all the animals who are part of that learning process because they can easily die or become sick. Unfortunately it took us a little over a week to find someone more knowledgeable who could help him recover, so we had no choice but to try to do our best for him for a little while. Most people we talked to wanted to keep him as a pet, and we wanted him to be able to go back out where he came from. He wasn't born into captivity and it's cruel to take an animal that has known freedom and stick it in a cage.. it is cruel and unessecary to take any undomesticated creature and keep them out of the wild unless there is no choice, for example if they are permanently hurt and could not hunt or survive in the wild any longer or if their habitat is completely destroyed. Finally we got ahold of a very helpful person who works for Scripps Aquarium who agreed to take him and later released him in the same tide pools where he was found.). The crab had beautiful patterns on his(? her?) shell as well. I think we as humans tend to care more about pretty or cute animals and anthropomorphize them and think we can tell what they are thinking which can be a problem. There are animals which are ugly or conventionally ugly) or that even trigger our evolutionary response of fight or flight or revulsion because they resemble something potentially dangerous like a venomous snake or spider that are just as fascinating and integral to the food chain. For example, spiders kill a lot of insects and that can actually help people. Worldwide one of the biggest killers statistically is malaria which is spread by mosquitoes. On the other hand, insects are also helpful to us, like bees who pollinate fruit trees, flowers, etc. Humans tend to only care about what benefits or harms them, so I tend to focus on the benefits. Some people also tend to see the world as if they have ownership over it... even if we think we own a piece of land in order to clear up who can live there and as an agreement between other humans, I see it more as a stewardship of the land I own on paper. The earth is older than our species and will probably be around much longer after we are all gone, until it is swallowed up by the dying star of our sun. Hopefully, we don't try to kill each other and mutually assured destruction will stop the earth and the animals on it from having to try to adapt to some kind of nuclear winter scenario.
