I have a question. I just had 2.5gb fiber internet hooked up and it came with 2 eero pro 6e’s. How do I hard wire from the modem or gateway eero to a back bedroom for gaming if the 2.5gb plug is used on the gateway eero? Putting a switch between the modem and gateway eero would be so easy. If only eero had two 2.5gb ethernet ports

Perhaps you can help me out I just upgraded my fiber from 500, 500 to 10001,000 And they sent me two eero 6 pro e’s Well, I had no problem setting them up but when I checked my Internet speed, it wasn’t much faster than I was at 500, 500. I’m hitting speed right around 500. Before I upgraded, I was able to hit 400 wirelessly I am paying much more for not much faster When I plug directly into My main router I’m still not hitting anywhere close to a gigabyte As a matter fact, it’s about the same as the wireless signal Now I didn’t adjust my packet or anything but I did check and make sure that my laptop has Wi-Fi and it does and it’s showing connected to Wi-Fi six Why am I not going anything near one gig? And how come I can’t separate the channels and see if I’m connecting to 2.4 or five or six? I guess it just automatically connects to one? In my properties, it says Wi-Fi six under my network adapter Although it does show a 5G network under protocols Should be confusing for someone who is computer literate Any ideas on why I’m not hitting close to my rated speed

Truly enjoyed your presentation and made the material understandable for an old guy like me that isn’t very tech savvy and not used to all the terms so the visual aides were helpful. I’ll admit that I will have to view it a couple times to make sure I understand the wireless application before I set it up. I am installing the eero in my 2000 sq Ft warehouse and sharing my neighbor’s wifi system which is on the other side of our dividing wall so hopefully it all works out because according to the geek guy that set up my TV he said the signal was weak so I don’t want to have connection issues with my laptop or stereo system. Thank you again and I will follow you for future presentations.

I'm confused on this. i got a 3 pack eero pro 6e. when i called customer service to get help with turning off the 2ghz and 5ghz channels so it could bridge, the eero customer service agent said i didn't need to do that. i plugged the 1st eero gateway unit in to the wifi 1 port rather than the ONT port. so my original wifi modem/ router (which is the att bgw320) is not switched off for wifi. i did not change any settings on it. if my Eeros units hooked up correctly?

My 2nd Eero downstairs in my new build doesn't power on nor is detected by the app? My first eero is powered on in my network closet and I found the ethernet cord that said WAP and plugged that into the 2.5 slot on both and nothing happens. Do I have to get a network switch with POE to turn on the 2nd EERO is it only has an ethernet connection in the ceiling?

In my house I have two lan ports in the wall in 4 places so total 8 ports. On the back of it one has a yellow wire attached and one is blue and I assume it is lan and telephone respectively. I have connected all those to a switch inside the network box accept one wire which goes to the modem directly and one wire comes back from the router to the network box to connect to the switch. My concern is that does it matter to use the telephone blue wire as lan and does it use a different twisted pair inside the connecter. This setup works for me but wanted to know does it affects anything? Also can I use my old router as a node with the same ssid and pass?

Hello sir, thank you for the important info regarding eero product. I have carefully watched the video and as ex-employee in eero technical support, I would like to draw your attention for some mistakes you have mentioned in your video. First : network switches There are three kinds of switches in market: a. Unmanaged switch blank and plug and play function available b. Smart unmanaged switch also plug and play function available c. Managed switch have an admin page which you can disable and enable many fuctions What is the difference between smart unmanaged and unmanaged? Second: The eero network have integrated many smart functions into it, how ever the most important things integrated into eero system are: 1. Spanning tree protocol 2. 802.1p (QOS/COS) 3. IGMP snooping 4. Loop prevention 5. VLAN's So we go back into what is the difference between smart unmanaged switch and blank unmanaged switch? that the above integrated functions are been included in the smart unmanaged switches and therefore using smart unmanaged switch into eero network could result in strange behaviors such as device loose connection for no reasons or a node could loose connection even if it is wired through a smart unmanaged switch. so eero network will take in charge of the network, then smart unmanaged switch will over ride and try to take in charge of the network, simply they will start fighting with each other! My research on switches and down loading their technical data sheet, I found that all Netgear switches are smart switches but there are other brands which does not have the 5 important functions build in. I’ll give an example, down load any netgear switch data sheet and search for the 1 to 5 things I mentioned previously you would find one or more build in and since it is unmanaged switch there is no admin page to disable them. You may down load any of the following switches data sheet and you will not find any of the mentioned points are been build in: 1. TP link LS 1008G lite wave 2. GREENnet TEG-S80g 3. GREENnet TEG-S50g 4. Monoprice switch 110927 5. Tp link TL-SG1008D 6. Luxul xgs-1008 7. TEG1024D 24 ports 8. Greennet S16G 16 ports 9. TL-SG1005d 10. TEG1016D 11. TEG1024D I would strongly advice to make a new video explaining the above points since we used to advice customers to change the switch if we found out in the data sheet of that particular switch is having some functions which already integrated in the eero system. Finally POE switches to power second or third eero in the network if power outlet is not available is not Advisable and could lead to damage the eero unit, eero has it's eero POE which can be purchase seperatly and safely powered the remaining eero units on wired connections. Have a nice day and thank you for the videos you’re posting in youtube

Thank you, amazing explanation. I was actually researching and was worried about smart unmanaged vs blank unmanaged switch as I've read about people having issues with smart unmanaged switches with QoS and 802.1p causing connection lags and drops. I actually purchased one of the switches you recommended (TP Link LS 1008G Lite Wave) to run with my Eero Pro 6E setup. I will update with the results soon!

Hello my friend it's me again, I was looking at TP-link SG-1005D and SG-1008D, their data sheets say they have 802.1 QoS, just FYI. They must've updated the model to include some smart features now. I reviewed the tech sheet and ended up buying the first one on your list (TP-link LS1008G) as it is truly an blank unmanaged switch with no smart features

I was having interference issues with my current network. To alleviate this I purchased a Deco X55 and set it up in AP mode. Things were fixed. Frontier had some specials to upgrade my speed from my 0rigianl 75 Meg up-down. So, I said yes because it was cheaper than my current bill. They sent me this Eero 6+ and told me to set it up. What a mess as it was competing with the new Mesh. So, I finally set the eero in bridge mode. The Deco has far more configurations for my needs. They will be out soon to upgrade my modem and hopefully, the connection from the ONT to the modem. Any issues with setting the error in bridge mode while having the Deco Mech setup as ethernet AP nodes? Thanks

Awesome information - Thanks!! If I do a wired backhaul (2 eeros connected together) without a switch and have other eeros that use wifi signal in different rooms and use the eero ethernet port to connect a device will that create greater speeds even if i’m not using a switch? I presume mixing wired to wireless backhaul methods that uses ethernet at the wireless eeros.

I am new to all this so I just wanted to ask the question to clarify. I have a two story house, with a basement, being build in which all the rooms will have a cat6 plug in them. There is also going to be a central "hub" in which the modem will take the ISP signal, that will then go to a separate router, which will then connect to a switch, which then has all the plugs for the different rooms throughout the house. If I were to buy a mesh system, I would remove the router that is there, then go from modem to the new mesh router, then plug that into the switch correct? From there, if I went to the second story and wire the second mesh 'node' to the plug on the wall, that would be considered a wired backhaul correct?

Hopefully, your modem/router combo supports wifi 6E. The simple answer is if you're happy with results then you're good. I personally prefer to have the eero as the main router so I would rather put the modem/router in bridge mode.

I have a question why did they make eero only able to communicate with each other I’m frustrated they did this because I wanted wireless backhaul for both nodes at 2.5 gigs so I have a CM2000 modem and 2 eero 6e’s and also a 2.5 gig 5 port switch so what I wanted to do was connect the modem to the switch and then the gateway to the switch and then also the 2nd eero to the switch for complete wired backhaul but the 2nd eero only connects thru wifi and doesn’t recognize the hardwired connection and this frustrates me because I wanted to utilize the 2.5 jack on the 2nd eero now when I take the Ethernet cable out of the switch for the 2nd eero and I plug it directly to the gateway eero via 1 gig port it immediately recognizes the hardwired connection but now that 2nd eero is capped at 1 gig when it is a 2.5 gig cable device why did they do this are there anyways to fully utilize the maximum speed of the 2nd eero or will I forever be capped at 1 gig please let me know if you have any information or insight I would greatly appreciate it thank you this is very frustrating

Again very informative video, thank you. I have a bunch of Eero 6 pro’s, unfortunately my house is not suited for wired backhaul, so I know speeds are decreasing. As you mentioned the wireless speeds of the 6E pro are crazy fast, does that also mean powerful, meaning other nodes receive stronger signals via the witeless backhaul, hence improve overall witeless speeds? Thanks!
@landpet
@landpet Год назад
No problem. If you’re looking for wireless backhaul performance, I’d go with the Deco XE75 or XE75 Pro instead, I got better numbers from those compared to the eero Pro 6E. The Pro 6E is not much of an upgrade from the Pro 6 aside from the 6GHz band but the wireless backhaul is not as great. In the video when I mentioned 6GHz, I was referring to just having a 6E device connecting to the main eero itself or in a wired backhaul configuration.

I am still waiting for the Ethernet adapter to arrive. When I plug my Eero into my Starlink, should I keep my Eero's in Bridged mode or put the Starlink router into Bridge mode? I have a question. I purchased the eero pro 6e and an iphone 15 pro max. I how do I access the 6ghz band with my new iphone to the eero pro 6e? It shows a connection to my eero but when i do the speed test, is showing normal speeds. I have ATT fiber and i have the 1Gbps plan. On my mac mini which i have the modem/router from att connected directly to my mac mini, when i do the speed test i am getting around 980 mbps, so the speed is correct. I then ran an ethernet cable from the back of the att modem/router to the eero pre 63 router. How do I know if I am accessing the 6ghz band on my new iphone 15 pro max? I've seen RU-vid videos of people having super fast crazy speeds with their new iphones 15 connected to the to the 6ghz band but no one is showing how they are setting it up. Can you please send me a message or create a video and let me know how that works? Thank you I appreciate it and love all of your videos!

I forget if the eero had a separate 6GHz SSID or if it was encompassed all into one SSID. It's been a while since I've used it and I go through a ton of routers so hard for me to remember the specifics. One thing that caught my eye from your question is the way you connected the eero to the modem/router combo. Sounds like you're running your eero in bridge mode? What I would recommend is disabling the router portion of your modem/router combo or calling your ISP (Internet Service Provider) and asking to get a replacement for just a modem. Then you can setup your eero as the main router, if it's one SSID, your new iPhone should connect to the 6GHz band. If it's a separate SSID, then just connect to that one and you should get really good speeds. One thing to keep in mind, ethernet is typically faster than any wifi connection and some of the speeds you may have seen had even faster internet speeds. For example, I have a OnePlus 11 5G which has WiFi 7 which is a lot faster than WiFi 6E. So when I do a speed test, I can get over 3Gbps download for internet speed test but my computer can get the full 5Gbps I pay for to my ISP because it's hooked up via ethernet. In fact, I encourage you to watch this short video just to show you what I'm talking about with my mac mini m2 (with 10Gbps port): ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-y9fiQqi_egA.html Hope this helps.

@landpet
@landpet Год назад
Thanks! It depends where you place it, if you place it within a room or two, it should be fine. The important thing to note is that 6E is not going to help much since the Ring itself doesn't run off 6E, it's usually a much slower than that. I don't know any details about your place but generally speaking a 2 pack of a mesh system covers most homes less than 2000 sq ft. If your home is larger, I would suggest looking at 3 packs or more.

Hello, if i connect like you said from the modem to the the first router to switch and then to the next router, the speed is the same as i connect a router direct to a router or I need a particular switch to maintain the same speed as direct?
@landpet
@landpet Год назад
If it's wired backhaul, then the speeds will be the same assuming the cables you have support the speeds and the switch you have support the speeds. If you need gigabit speeds, just about any switch will support that nowadays, I have links in the description section. Any ethernet cable cat5E or above like cat6, cat7 or cat8 will support those speeds.

If not possible do you have another recommendation router wise to handle that speed?
@landpet
@landpet Год назад
If you're going wired which is what it sounds like, the X55 Pro: amzn.to/3pDJMTg is the way to go if you dont wan't to spend a lot of money. It's the cheapest mesh system that has 2 fast 2.5Gbps ports. The next one up is the ASUS ET12 Pro also has 2 fast ports and 2 gigabit ports but costs a lot more.

Based on your recommendation to disable their router, do I have to contact them to place their router in bridge mode or can I do this from the app they had me download? You should be able to set it to bridge mode yourself. If you use your existing wifi name (SSID) and password on the new eero from the router you're replacing, all your devices will automatically connect to the eero. Remember, the wifi name (SSID) and the password are both case sensitive.

I have a modem/router/Hub all in one (Sagemcom 5364) included by my ISP provider. it's okay. but we have some spots in our 3 bedroom house, where the Wifi is just a bit slow. So my question is, if I just get the Eero Po 6E (1 pack) and make that my Wifi router (turning off my old built in router) will this make a difference and will it work with just the one Eero or do I need at least two? thanks!

What you described should work fine. The important thing is modem > eero > after this you have a lot of freedom on how you want to connect devices. You can also mix wired and wireless backhaul so if you have 3 eero's, 1 of them is the main router, the other can be wired and the third can be wireless. Devices that connect via ethernet are not really sharing network speeds (not to be confused by internet speeds, everything is sharing this) in the same way wifi devices actually are sharing the wifi bandwidth, so to keep everything running as fast as possible it's preferrable to run more wired devices vs wireless. Now with all that said and not going into too much more detail like explaing full duplex vs half duplex among other things like the speeds of each band, etc... I will tell you from personal experience, I have 60 to 70 devices, closer to 70 now as I'm typically adding more and more stuff and most of the devices are actually on wifi and I typically have not had any issues with the eero with more than 80% of my devices operating on wifi. These new mesh systems/routers are fairly good. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the guide from Italy! May I ask a question? How I can create a full 2,5 GB/s LAN (with cable) with the 3 pack Eero pro 6E (with full I mean from the modem to all the elements)?. I have a 10 GB/s connection with my ISP, I connect the modem to one of the 3 eero elements. Now, if I want to connect to the other using a 2,5 GB/s line, what I have to do? there is no possibility to "duplicate" the 2,5 GB/s through some sort of "Ethernet port duplicator" (sorry for my English, while I'm writing I know that is terrible), like one ethernet port connected to the 2,5 GB/s port to a "black-box" with two ethernet port (one input connected with the modem) and one output connected to the secondo Eero?

No problem! You can not do a 2.5Gbps LAN with just the eero because it only has one fast port. You can look at the new Deco X55 Pro, you can do it with this because it has 2 2.5Gbps ports. But if you have a 10Gbps connection which is amazing, why not get something like the Deco BE85 and run 10Gbps LAN? If you want to use the eero, maybe you can get a firewalla gold and run that to your eeros and run your eeros in bridge mode, I haven’t tried this but it might work. so, i have a question. my grandparents swapped internet on me without telling me (i rent the basement) and they put the router/moden in the garage with an eero pro6e. i now have a eero pro6e in my bedroom as well for wifi but i have a gaming computer that i use ethernet with. there IS one of those ethernet cables with female on both ends that goes through the walls from the garage too the basement. so, could i attach the garage eero too that extender ethernet cable, which would go to an unmanaged switch that connects too my bedroom eero, that has a cat6 ethernet that goes to my computer? they pay for like 950mb/s download speed and i get 12mb/s wireless on my PC so obviously that kind of sucks for gaming, and also no wifi on my computer so it HAS to be ethernet either way. im just trying to figure out how to set it up via ethernet so i can take advantage of the full internet speed, since im the only one that even uses the internet in this house in the first place. i hope that made sense🥰
@landpet
@landpet 10 месяцев назад
Yes, 12Mbps is terrible for gaming especially when you have 950Mbps. If that ethernet with female ends going through the wall is connected to the main eero, then yes you could connect to that, even through an unmanaged switch and connect the eero in your room to your computer which will vastly improve your internet speeds. The thing to pay attention to is if an ethernet cable is making it’s way from your computer all the way to the modem through some eero’s and an unmanaged switch. If so, then you will pretty much get those max speeds assuming your PC supports those speeds which it most likely does as that has been standard for quite some time.

This is exactly what I've done 😊 and it works! I've installed 4 units but 3 are ethernet backhauled. Only 1 is fully wireless connected simply because there is nowhere to run cables. Just make sure your gateway eero is directly connected to your modem or hub with no switches in the way. I've run an 8 port switch from the gateway which then sends the signal around the house. Now every room has maximum WiFi strength and speed. The only thing is mobile devices can take some time to change connection between nodes, which can mean a drop in signal strength for a while it isn't instant. It's a minor niggle but I do like seeing full WiFi bars on my device. The other thing is one of the nodes just died a week ago and nothing would get it to work so I've had to buy a replacement. 😠

@landpet
@landpet 10 месяцев назад
TVs don’t require too much speed to play content without lag, so you could in theory get away with wireless backhaul but my preference is usually wired backhaul. There are some exceptions since some mesh systems have insanely good wireless backhaul speeds. This eero is not one of those, aside from that eero makes great and reliable routers. Yes, with wireless backhaul you can place it near the TV and wire it directly, that should result in better speeds for the TV vs the TV wireless connecting to the eero.

Can you please tell me, if you are running a wireless backhaul between the two Eero's, why would you connect devices via ethernet to the secondary Eero if it still then needs to transmit wirelessly to the Eero acting as the router? Another way of thinking about this is. If your device connects via wifi to the eero thats on wireless backhaul. That is 2 wifi connections to make it to the main eero router. If you connect that same device via ethernet to the eero thats on wireless backhaul. That is now 1 wifi connection to make it to the main eero router. I’ve actually never seen wireless backhaul go faster than gigabit speeds. So if you have internet faster than gigabit and you want full speeds everywhere, you need to get a mesh system that has faster ports like the asus et12 or Netgear Orbi rbke962 and run it via wired backhaul

Thanks! Very clear and tomorrow I plan to tackle the install with POE satellites

No problem, im sure you know that PoE does require a PoE gateway which i didnt cover here

I’m going to get 2gb fiber optic. I want to hook 3 week pro6e wired to each other do I need a special unmaneage switch to handle 2gb ?

No in the case of unmanaged switch which is what I discuss here because the eero pro 6e only has one fast port, so once it comes out of that thing, you're down to gigabit speeds. I haven't tried this but you can go with a managed switch and unlike an unmanaged switch, you will need to set it up but in theory you can wire it to all three eero pro 6e's assuming it has the multi-gig ports. This does make for a more complicated setup. I personally would just get the ASUS ET12 Pro since it has 2 fast 2.5Gbps ports on each unit and stick with that and you can just get an unmanaged 2.5Gbps and expand it throughout.

Can the cable from the 1st eero pro 6e to a PC or unmanned switch be Cat 5 ?

Sure but cat5 (not cat5e) is limited to 100Mbps speeds.

Hi there, hope you are doing OK, very good information. Is there any information for connecting to DSL modem router it has 4 LAN ports no WAN port. Any help would be much appreciated thanks.

Thanks! It's best to disable the router portion of the modem/router combo by placing it in bridge mode. The easiest way is to call your Internet Service Provider (ISP) and ask them how to do it. It typically involves going to an IP address that's specified on the router itself. Within that menu you should see some options like disable or bridge mode. Once you do this, your router portion of your modem/router combo will stop working. You then want to use the first port (typically) of your router and connect it to any port on the eero (assuming your internet speeds are gigabit or less, otherwise you should connect it to the faster 2.5Gbps port on the eero). The eero should pick up the internet signal and just follow this video on how to connect the rest. Hope this helps!

Does it have to be an unmanaged switch or can I use a managed as well since I already have one sitting around at the house

managed switches have a lot more options, typically they require some change but in theory they should work as well, just need to tinker with the settings where unmanaged have no settings, literally plug and play.
