34:00 - the 3000T has 1.6 ppm timebase accuracy, not 10 ppm. The 4000X does have a 10 MHz reference input on the back. 35:00 - the 1 GHz 6000X has a color graded/intensity display mode One of the big differences between the Keysight 3000T and the 4000X is the amount of power they can provide to active probes. This really kicks in when doing power analysis (current * voltage) x2 but matters less for other uses. The 4000X also has faster max digital channel max toggle rate (100 MHz/5 ns vs. 250 MHz/2 ns), a second WaveGen output, can display 2 more measurements at once, and comes with 700 MHz probes vs. 500 MHz. The 3000T has a 3 year cal cycle vs. 2 yr on the 4000X. It also has 1.6 ppm time base stability vs 10.0 ppm.

CORRECTIONS: 1) The Keysight 3000T has a 1.6ppm reference 2) The Tektronix MDO3000 and MDO4000 are not being discontinued 3) The Tek 4 series has the new Spectrum View feature available - a hardware digital downconverter on each analog channel, giving flexible time-correlated spectrum analysis that isn't tied (limited by) the analog channel sample rate / record depth. 4) Tektronix have a refurbished store called Tek Encore.

I went to an oscilloscope seminar hosted by R&S couple months back. They were showing off their top of the line stuff, and also teaching basics on how to use oscilloscopes in general. They were really proud about their power analysis and eye diagram functions, along with all the other treats their scopes come with. And for their demos they were using the RTM3000 series scope with all the features, and I have to say that it is a very nice piece of equipment.

Bode plot (You can even use a standalone AWG from Siglent, in my case a SDG6022X and it works great), and the best thing: it is free! 2. Power analysis (requires a seperate license) 3. I went to school on HP and Tek scopes. I've been a Tek fan boy for decades but when I had to upgrade my personal scope (Tek TDS744 and Tek TDS220) after a long search I went with the 350 MHz Rigol 4000 4+16. By value the Tek wasn't even close. Tek needs to recognize the market has changed and for them to win they need to refocus on value and that means dropping the price big time. Oddly enough for the company I worked for I speced the Tek 4000 and didn't think twice about it and still think it was the right choice but when spending my own money I purchased the Rigol and the Siglent was in second place. I have no guilt either way but I'm wondering what that really said about me.

The scopes are still out of my price range. Nice that the Siglent includes serial decode. That option is over $1k for the LeCroy and well over $2k on three of the other scopes! What the ...?!! On the Rigol it is only a couple hundred or so if you had to pay for it. Those companies charging that much to enable some of the features available in the scope is insane.

So I just read a Keysight 2 part sales document from December 7, 2016 which compares their Infinium "S" Series (DSOS xxxx/ MSOSxxxx) to the R&S RTO2000 . Lots of interesting things in there, including a table listing bandwidth and price of 4 ch scopes from 500 MHz to 8 GHz for both brands. In Part 2, under the Table is this: "Additionally, the S-Series is easy to upgrade. Keysight offers bandwidth upgrades, memory upgrades, and MSO upgrades in software which means there is little to no downtime with your S-Series oscilloscope" and at the conclusion is this "S-Series is an oscilloscope will meet your measurement needs for years to come You can start with a 500 MHz scope and upgrade bandwidth and capabilities as needed, all through software" The shocker is that the whole Keysight "S" line IS BANDWIDTH SOFTWARE UPGRADEABLE! This means that the $17,709 500 MHz scope can be upgraded to the $68,813 8 GHz scope via software! In other words, all scopes in the "S" series are all 8 GHz, 800 Mpts Memory hardware! One can simply upgrade any "S" scope to higher bandwidth / memory by yourself by sending some (a lot) of money. If they are not loosing money on the 500 MHz scopes at $17,709, then they are making a ton on the $68,813 8 GHz models! 12:40 you have to keep in mind that screen resolution above the bitrate makes no difference to the way the waveform looks like. 8 bit is only 256 levels, so unless you're pulling off mathematic tricks, any vertical resolution greater than 256 does not make the waveform look any better

Not accurate. 1, There is a thing called oversampling. 2, There is a thing called interpolation. 3, It's not just the waveform it's the experience of having larger sharper display not only for the waveform but also for the text and FFT etc.

At 1 GHz, you're almost always using active probes that have minimal loading characteristics. On top of that, it's very common to use 50 ohm mode instead of high impedance mode. In the 750 MHz to 1 GHz range and above, you almost have to switch over to 50 ohm mode to get decent measurements.

Hi Dave, it looks like the RTB3000 does have gated FFT. take a look here (scdn.rohde-schwarz.com/ur/pws/dl_downloads/dl_common_library/dl_brochures_and_datasheets/pdf_1/RTM3000_dat-sw_en_5214-9144-22_v0800.pdf) page 10 under section FFT, on the setup parameter row of the table. The last line says "gate (time range and position)" (Also, I find it hard to believe that it does not have it because I work with the lower end RTB2004 that can do gated FFT, so I see no reason why the higher end model shouldn't have it)

@@EEVblog The repair cost for a 10K scope is likely to be several thousand. Not a pleasant surprise, if they are so sure then why only offer such a short warranty. Buy one at 10k.. then buy another at 10k .. no thanks. It's all very well having highly expensive test equipment at bargain prices, but these days they are not repairable on a DIY basis. It's a risk that's ok for bigger companies to take, but for hobbyists or sole traders.. it's a big gamble. You're not talking from the perspective of a sole trader who has to buy their scopes with their own cash.

10k for a scope? Crazy! People in 3rd world can live decades for that money... Its time for some open hardware alternative to this rubbish. Will be nice if a few universities connects together and develop something afordable like what happened with Arduino... In software we did it and Linux is now more than competitive to comercial solutions so why not repeat it also with hardware...

For one thing scopes are a time investment. Just imagine something Like a car, sure its a lot of money but you are not planning to get another one in, say, at least 4 years! The companies that make these scopes I.e. design/building have a their own employees to pay as well. And if the job market for these engineers is 100k a year, then your product should be pretty darn expensive. There are a lot of different angles to look at to understand why these scopes are so expensive.
@Hellenios
@Hellenios 5 лет назад
@@Okurka. No, abote car for 20k I will not even think but house is something another. I will have no problem with it. It will stay there even for next generations but some peace of electronics which has BOM +- 2k max and has performance matching 20 years old stuff (I know it is better but not so much...) and after five years will have value 2k at most? No!
@Hellenios

@@darer13 Why you should buy a new one in just a 4 years? Becouse the manufacturer will give you fullHD screen in time of 4K res? Or add a few MB more for samples than pc has allready tens of GB? Its time to say F**k off...

Lots of companies make cheap scopes with limited performance. But for the 1GHz market, pretty much everything has to be custom designed, so only the largest manufacturers can afford to do that. You're no longer dealing with standard signal design but some RF and serious signal integrity issues which cost time and millions $ to resolve properly - and you have to buy the test equipment and simulation software to get it to work. The cost of designing an ASIC for a scope here can be in the order of $10M - some smaller chips may be less but it takes time and experience (highly paid engineers). So if the company sells 100,000 units, that's still $100 NRE plus the cost of low-volume silicon manufacture which could be another $100. Several ASICs and the big FPGAs in each and you're easily spending $400 on silicon alone in each scope. RF attenuators, highly sophisticated amplifiers, custom DACs and trigger circuits all add up. The firmware code is typically 50MB - 100MB, that's a lot of software engineering plus constant bug fixes. So the BoM of standard parts might be less than $1k for sure, but the total cost of designing the product might be as much as $50M, hence there is utilization of the technology over many product models which sell for maybe 10 years - so the amortised NRE that you have to add to the BoM cost is $500 - $1k+ per unit (so long as they sell many 10,000 units in the lifetime of the product). The manufacturer has to make a profit, they typically have a reseller or distributor who makes a margin, the models vary in price from the low-bandwidth ($2k) and low-cost to the higher bandwidth ($10k). It's only the higher bandwidth models where they actually make their money - if they only sold 100MHz-200MHz models then these would have to be a much higher price. Check the financials of these big test companies, their bottom line nett profit tends to be in the single digits (
