Many argue that the church been weakened, over the past few years, in terms of growth, impact and influence. Much of the state of affairs can be attributed to the "pulpit" - the leaders and what they are preaching.
In this episode, we have a chat with Pastor Israel Phiri on how we can turn this around and bring authenticity back into our pulpits.
Pastor Israel Phiri is the founder and senior pastor of Shapers Church, Randburg, Johannesburg, South Africa.

I must say, this recent episode featuring Israel has been the best I have ever watched. I truly wish that more people could have the opportunity to be a part of this amazing experience. Several years ago, I had the privilege of meeting Israel when I was heavily involved in the charismatic church. However, at that time, I was not fully aware of the depth of his growth in the Word of God. Since then, I have transitioned away from the charismatic church and have embraced a more reformed approach. This shift has allowed me to become more eloquent and firm in my understanding of Scripture. I realized that in my previous experiences, while working with popular pastors in the charismatic church, there was often a focus on trying to be relevant with the world rather than teaching the pure truths of Scripture. I share this reflection to emphasize just how impactful and refreshing it has been to witness Israel's commitment to scripture and the depth of his message. It has truly encouraged and strengthened me on my own spiritual journey. Thank you to Israel and the team for delivering such a meaningful and transformative episode. May it continue to touch the lives of many others.

As believers, it is paramount that we approach Scripture with humility and reverence, refraining from imposing our personal biases or preferences onto its sacred text. Instead, our responsibility is to faithfully teach what Scripture reveals to us. By honoring its timeless truth and preserving its integrity, we allow the Word of God to speak for itself, guiding and transforming the lives of those who diligently seek its wisdom. Let us humbly submit to the authority of Scripture, teaching it accurately and proclaiming its life-changing message without compromising its divine truth.

As Christians, it is imperative for us to meet together in fellowship for several reasons. Firstly, gathering as a community allows us to encourage and support one another in our faith journeys. We can share our joys, concerns, and struggles, finding comfort and guidance in knowing we are not alone. Secondly, coming together in fellowship helps us grow in our understanding and knowledge of God's Word. Through studying the Bible, participating in worship, and engaging in meaningful discussions, we deepen our understanding of Scripture and draw closer to our Creator. Additionally, meeting in fellowship provides us with opportunities to use our spiritual gifts to serve one another and the community. We can join hands in acts of compassion, outreach, and mission, bringing the love and hope of Christ to those around us. The church is vital because it provides a place where we can worship God collectively, share our faith, and receive spiritual nourishment. It serves as a spiritual home, where we connect with fellow believers, form meaningful relationships, and find guidance from trained leaders. Moreover, the church is a place of accountability, where we can receive correction, grow in holiness, and be challenged to live out our faith in practical ways. In all these aspects, the church plays a crucial role in our spiritual formation and living out the teachings of Christ. May we value and prioritize gathering together as believers, understanding the importance of fellowship and the impact it can have on our individual and collective walk with God.

As a Reformed Christian, the role of the church structure is seen as a means of providing structure and order to the body of believers. The church structure helps to uphold the authority of Scripture and the proper administration of the sacraments. It is essential for fostering biblical teaching and discipleship, ensuring that the Word of God is faithfully proclaimed and that believers are equipped for service and spiritual growth. The church structure also plays a role in promoting accountability, both for church leaders and individual members, as well as in facilitating evangelism and outreach to the wider community. Ultimately, the church structure exists to glorify God, edify believers, and spread the Gospel message to the world.

Church hurt is a painful experience that many individuals unfortunately go through. It may arise from various situations such as conflicts, betrayals, or feeling misunderstood within the church community. While these hurts are valid and challenging, it is crucial for individuals to not give up on fellowship. Firstly, it's important to recognize that not all churches are the same. Just because one church or group of believers may have caused hurt, it doesn't mean that every church will do the same. There are countless loving, supportive, and Christ-centered communities out there that can bring healing and restoration. Secondly, the fellowship and communal aspect of church are vital for our spiritual growth and well-being. Despite the pain experienced, isolating ourselves from fellow believers can hinder our ability to fully heal and grow in our faith. Being part of a supportive community allows us to receive encouragement, prayer, and wisdom from others who have walked similar paths or have experienced healing from their own hurts. Thirdly, through forgiveness and grace, we can find liberation and restoration. Recognizing that even churches and Christians are not immune to mistakes or hurtful behavior helps in extending grace and forgiveness. By actively engaging with others and seeking reconciliation, we can participate in the healing process and contribute to the overall growth of the church community itself. Ultimately, despite church hurt, it is important to remember that our faith is centered around Christ, not solely dependent on the actions or behavior of others. Holding onto our relationship with God and embracing the concept of imperfect fellowship can help us navigate through the pain and find healing. By not giving up on fellowship, we open ourselves up to the possibility of experiencing genuine love, support, and spiritual growth within a community that aligns with our values and beliefs.

Here are a couple of scriptural references that support the importance of pastors being equipped and attending Bible school: 1. 2 Timothy 2:15 (ESV): "Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth." This verse encourages pastors to diligently study and handle God's word correctly. Attending Bible school helps foster the skills and knowledge necessary to rightly divide the Word and effectively teach it to others. 2. Proverbs 18:15 (NIV): "The heart of the discerning acquires knowledge, for the ears of the wise seek it out." This verse speaks to the importance of acquiring knowledge for those who seek wisdom. Bible school provides pastors with an opportunity to deepen their understanding of Scripture and gain theological insights, enabling them to lead and teach with discernment.

According to Scripture, pastors should attend Bible school to be equipped with a solid understanding of God's Word, to gain theological knowledge, develop pastoral skills, and to fulfill the biblical qualifications for leadership. It ensures their ability to faithfully teach, guide, and shepherd their congregation with integrity and biblical wisdom.
