The mapping for tab is "Toggle Maximized Editing Mode" in the shortcut settings. I forgot to mention the assignement in the video. sorry. ALSO, thx to @shax71: Settings -> Behavior -> Select Tracks When -> Selecting Clips in Clip Launcher. This will auto change to the track when you select the clip so when you hit tab, all good.

First thought coming to me, is why might Bitwig adopt your workflow so that this is standard behaviour? Second, might that be possible to have different view layouts available for the F1, F2, F3 keys which might give similar simple solution? Third thing popping to my mind, did you already show triggering one clip from another with out the need of clicking it? Fourth thing, might it be just possible to re-configure double click on clip to your desired behaviour? However, brilliant video, thanks so much!
@@PolarityMusic thanks so much. I’m beginning to think it’s impossible to complete songs/beats in this damn DAW - that it’s good for endless sound design possibilities with its unique set of toys and internal architecture etc. But: get another DAW if you want to do something as mundane as arrange and complete songs LOL. (Just downloaded Reaper) Please prove me wrong…:)
I completely agree with you. I was so efficient arranging songs in FL. In Bitwig I'm forever stuck in modular limbo, which is very fun, but I have very little to show for it after almost a year haha.
FEATURE REQUEST: pin the device line to always be shown at the bottom. and clicking on clip opens the detail editor above the device line without hiding the arrangement.
n practice, I noticed that if you just take and learn the default keys, it will also be convenient.Over time, it may be more convenient to speed up your workflow by changing the keys.
I might start using the larger editor and device panel too. I usually just use shortcuts to switch between Device Panel and Clip Editor "D" & "E". But maybe using Tab to open the larger editor and hiding the arranment is even more efficient. I'll have to try it out. Thanks for the idea
Great videos. IMHO the sound of your voice need a little polishing tho. Maybe you could you put a deEsser on it ? The comp seems pretty high and the SSS and chhh are really wistling. The audio ducking is also a bit much on some videos... For educational music video I wonder if it should even be on at all. Hope you don't take this the wrong way, I really like what you do on this channel, I learned so much. I'm just trying to give a helpful feedback. Have a great day
Just gonna say this - Reason’s blocks are way better for building an arrangement out of loops. Bitwigs clip launcher is better for combining loops in different combinations and “playing” the loops. But for taking a loop and then selectively adding song-like structure on top, blocks wins.
Hi Polarity, ty for great videos. One question that I have been meaning to ask long time: I know that you can make clips to play in random order, but is there a way to specify that when clip is playing in one track, another clip, from different track will play at the same time? Lets say that you have a drom track with several clips, and they are being played in random order. Then, you create a synth/lead track with several clips. Is there a way to specify that when clip x, from drum track is playing, clip y, from synth track is also playing.
For example, you never want any clip playing longer as for 8 Bars, so you could just give them all a next action to round robin after 8 , as it will not harm your creativity if you change it before that 8 bars ;-)
hei thank you for the videos :D do you (or anyone here) know if you can have a long sound in a scene that sustains beyond the scenes end? in Bitwigs clip launcer the audio is always cut off at the end of the scene/clip. It would be good when playing live if the audio can blend easily into another scene... Im new to Bitwig but am used to switch between sequences on MPC and there the sounds just finish. Long samples play through all the way to the end, even tough they are longer than the sequence and a new sequence has started to play.... Im just thinking about this, maybe it is impossible in Bitwig or another way of doing it?
if you talk about audio clips, then no. only solution is to have "dry" audio in the clips and then work with live reverbs. if audio ends the reverb on the track will ring out, even when the clip is stopped.
I use dual monitors using the Studio set up template. I get get confused when I open and close things all the time. However, your workflow suggestions are perfect and amazing if I'm ever on a single monitor
This is GREAT! is getting better day by day. A step forward could be to let us create Views and using keyboard shortcuts change between them? (also, @02:33 page Up or Page Down should change also the upper part where the midi piano is.... it is so confusing to be editing a clip in piano mode while in the lower part, be editing a compleetly different Track's inserts)
I also use multiple monitors, and this is what I would highly suggest to everyone. BUT, just in case you are not aware of: You also can use this feature even if you only have one monitor. So, for example on widescreen displays, you could arrange the windows fine next to each other on one display. It is even possible on a non-widescreen of course. On the other hand, when I am on my macbook (and i am somestimes when I am not in the studio), these are very welcome suggestions in your video (as there are in any of your videos). PS: Please do not consider doing this while streaming, because I love to see everything you do ;)
@@PolarityMusic Yeah! But you could do something like this on one monitor with a three monitor layout: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-D6VG65o4utM.html - which is btw me recreating one of your streams for learning ;)
What will also be cool is using the new Bitwig 5 global project modulators to modify the clips as well! Great job Polarity, I am currently trying to move from the arranger timeline to the clip launcher for my creative and this video is so helpful :)
Totally off topic question. Do you have any idea, why my MIDI clock is completely wonky out of Bitwig? For sure it is Bitwigs output. Different MIDI toys, different interfaces. Always the same. Sometimes the clock is a little bit slower, then it goes ultra fast. I can´t understand, what is going on.
@@patricketp8356 not unless I was your IT guy! Maybe try another DAW (trial version if you don’t have), or another computer. Check what’s running in the background? Ideally it should be near to nothing unless it’s audio related. I personally have a specific user account on my laptop specifically for audio. And a seperate one for day to day use, photoshop, etc. you could also try a different audio/midi interface. The list goes on. Trial and error really…
Danke Danke Danke
This is pretty nice :)! I usually do double click the region to edit it, and as long I only want to make small adjustments the bottom editor is fine. It also follows the region selection. If I need to switch to the detail editor I hit "shift + tab" to toggle the maximized editing mode. I've actually assigned this shortcut to a mouse button because I use it so often :)
I really dig this shortcut idea, thanks for sharing. I switch between with keyboard shortcuts but sometimes I want all that shit on my screen and big, haha
i am so happy to see you change to this :) i've been using shift + tab (on mac) to see the larger edit view for years now. i'm hoping you stick with it! it's so much better to have the large edit view on top ,and the bottom panel available for devices, mini mixer view etc. and you even corrected your pronunciation of "duplicate!" your english is bloody amazing already, but it's always nice to strive for perfection :P maybe connect yourself to a little electrocution pad, so that every time you double click, you get a little shock to remind yourself ;)
I just have three monitors. The main and the biggest one is for arrangement and device view, the small laptop display which is also closest to me is for editing clips, and the third one in vertiсal orientation is for the mix view where I have huge VU meters and access to devices' switches and tracks' remotes.
One thing I miss from Cubase around 1996 when the MIDI editor was fullscreen, I could still solo and mute (mute I think) from top right in the editor, without closing and returning to mixer. Perhaps there a keyboard shortcut? Regardless, would love to see a channel solo and mute in full screen MIDI/audio. Would be so useful. EDIT Typo!
if you are using shift + tab for the larger edit view on top, then you can switch the device panel on the bottom to the mini mixer (by pressing M) - you'll see all your channels there, and you can press solo / mute etc.
@@PolarityMusic looking at this again, this is cool, because the shift tab option disappears in dual monitor mode, so using this method I hope I can regain that functionality
