How to improve your grab - hit or lap sau. Use relaxing principles:
- Do not set off alarms and trigger the opponents reflexes.
- Connect your whole body with the target before using any force, don't waste energy
- Move from your center and legs, give your arms up

Those guys are very lucky to train with you. You are a great teacher both ethically and skill wise. Great content as always.

Beautifully taught. One controls "weight" using the knees and elbows. Armbars work effortlessly IF we stay relaxed and use our hips and body rather than our "shoulders". We must also always affect their "center" [gearbox of the hips, lower spine] upon contact. Make contact control. Position permits opportunity, balance allows response. We should take both from our opponent upon contact. This is the key to Wing Chun. Too many have no understanding and perform empty movements without intention. This is why so many [wrongly] think the techniques do not work. Movements can appear the same, but in the end we convert energy. A sail without the wind gathered cannot drive the ship. We must use energy properly [which most cannot "see", but certainly can feel]. At the highest levels we use our opponent's energy more than our own. Glad to see the principles taught properly. So many Wing Chun [and other] teachers frustrate me because they abandon the tenets of useful styles because they lack understanding. This is a good demonstration of such folly. We need to trust the forms. Yes, the meaning of most is forgotten, but if we seek we will rediscover the intention within each method. Great video.

Movements appear the same but in the end we convert energy ... Well said. It's concepts as well but more of that sentence. That is developing attributes. What you're saying is develop attributes not just techniques. Movement without intention is the loss of useful concept. That's like developing attributes without good useful concepts that are working and relevant. A mcdojo doesn't love you they love money and many people parrot and play telephone maybe that's ... that's needed to pass down the art and keep people interested but people have to live love doing it in function and really doing it then they can tell you how to do it no matter what their perspective is but it helps to see those points you are making. That and common sense. That and using it. Actually using it.

@@davisbarr9112 Agreed. Intention is concept employed. Movement is a result of idea, of the mind's intent. It's sad to see these things lost. I was taught that Wing Chun fights using the mind. The mind is the weapon. Now they teach it backward. The body first. This is merely pantomime without concept as you say. Structure is more important than strength. Focus more important than force. Good to meet you.

At 1:57, you demonstrated an Uchi Uke block that we use in Shotokan Karate, and you turned it somehow into an attack..

Gotta love wing chun man it's so simple yet so unorthodox hands down my favorite style I've picked up and the one I default to granted I modified mine to be fully defensive instead of offensive it makes me nearly untouchable the problem is I can only attack if someone's coming at me if I go at them with changes I've made it leaves me open when I attack since it's like transitioning between defense and attack mode it's hard for me to focus on both so i changed it to make up for my weakness

Hey Adam! Thank you for your lap sao advice! Should you wrap your thumb around the person's arm when doing lap sao? I assume if you get good with lap sao, your opponent shouldn't be able to react and twist your wrist?
@robbanbobban2
@robbanbobban2 4 года назад
In the school I go to it is generally adviced against using the thumb. The problem is that of any counter technique happens, you get stuck more easily.

@willylaan2451 4 года назад
@@robbanbobban2 its because you do a short lapsau but when you can put him out of his balance with the lap sau with the thump i like that more in the ewto shool they do it what adam here is saying.i did 6 years ewto and now ip man wing chun sometimes i use the short one but because i did 6 years ewto i do it more often than the short one.

Woah I recognize that block from TKD on of the few block techniques we've ever learned because its mostly Kicks but now I see that similarity to Hsing Yi you mentioned. I am starting wonder what other TKD hand techniques might be similar to Kung Fu.
