This video briefing covers the EFIS Control Panel and display features shown on the PFD and ND. Each pilot has an EFIS Control Panel to directly control the modes, ranges, or data displayed on his or her respective PFD and ND. The base model aircraft used is the iFly 747-400. Many features of Boeing airplanes are similar between different models. Subsonic Flight Training plans to add the B747-8, B787, B777, and B757/767 for future briefing videos.

3:42 At the bottom, there are EFIS MAP switches. Each of these switches control information that is displayed on the ND. You can display 1) WXR (weather radar returns) or display 2) VOR Navaids, or 3) WPT, waypoints that are on the database 4) ARPT, airports that are in the Range on the ND, or various 5) DATA information when you push the DATA switch 6) POS -- Position would display your GPS and IRS position along with some raw data radials, and then 7) TERR -- would display terrain on the ND (Navigation Display) 4:24

5:00 1) CTR PB (Center Push Button) And then the Center PB on the ND mode switch is used to go from the Expanded Mode to Full 360 degree ROSE compass mode by pushing center. 2) TFC PB (Traffic Push Button) is used to display TCAS traffic on the ND when the switch is pushed, and alternately you can turn ON or OFF the Traffic by pushing the switch again. 5:30

1:10 EFIS control panel consists of: 1) a panel that has rotary controls, 2) toggle switches, and 3) push-button switches. Going from left to right and up to down -- from the left, you have the Minimums Selector that allows us to set either a) Radio Altitudes for Minimums or Barometric Altitudes for Minimums. Typically, on a 1) on a CAT I approach, or a non-precision approach, we would set BARO MINS. 2) On a CAT II approach, or [ RADIO MINS] 3) on a CAT III approach, we would set a RADIO MINS. 1:53

4:24 There are some inner switches associated with the rotary switches. There are little push button (PB) switches that are associated with either resetting Minimums when you reach Minimums through the 1) RST switch and the inner portion of the minimum switch. 2) The STD or the little Standard PB (Push Button) is for the BARO. When we get to the transition altitude we would normally go to 2992 inches. When we push the Standard that's automatically displayed by displaying STD on our PFD. 5:00

2:35 Just to the right of that is the BARO switch which is used to set the Altimeter (ALT) in either inches (IN) or Hecto-Pascals (HPA). Again there's an outer rotary switch and there's an inner rotary switch. The outer is used to select either inches or hectopascals and then the inner is used to set the actual altimeter setting in inches or hectopascals. 3:00

1:53 There's an outer and an inner selector that allows for the setting of either RADIO or BARO and also to set the Minimums themselves. 1) Moving to the right of that you have the Flight Path Vector (FPV) switch. When you turn this ON or OFF, it displays the Flight Path Vector on the PFD. 2) Next to that is the MTRS switch. On the Altitude section of the PFD -- when you push MTRS ON, it displays as well as . If you turn it OFF, then will disappear and you'll be left just with . This would be used in areas of the world where you have to use metres such as China. 2:35

3:25 Just to the right of that is the 1) Range Selector which varies from 5 miles to 640 miles. And then to the right of that would be the 2) Switch for the RIGHT VOR or the RIGHT ADF to turn the display OFF on the ND (Navigation Display). 3:42

3:00 Moving down you have a little toggle switch that is used for LEFT VOR and LEFT ADF or to turn the display OFF. Going to the right of that you have the ND MAP select switches or MODE select switches that encompass 1) the APP (approach mode) 2) VOR (VOR mode) 3) MAP (MAP mode) 4) PLN (plan mode) on the ND (Navigation Display) 3:25

"Each pilot has an EFIS control panel -- one for the Captain, one for the First Officer (F/O). the EFIS control panel controls the information that's displayed on the PFD, the Primary Flight Display, and the ND, the Navigation Display. 1:10

Thanks for the video, why is there two VOR in the EFIS?
@subsonicflighttraining
@subsonicflighttraining 6 лет назад
Thanks Joan, there are two VOR receivers as well as 2 ADF receivers (Left and Right) that can be displayed on the ND via the EFIS control panel as a skinny (Left) or fat needle (Right) and are colored green (VOR) and cyan (ADF). They allow for raw data monitoring when required mainly during approaches...

Very informative. On your top Left. How to activate the Wind Speed/wind direction with an arrow?
@subsonicflighttraining
@subsonicflighttraining 6 лет назад
It is displayed automatically with winds over 5 knots, 5 knots or less it is blank. The pilot has no control over displaying it...
