Maidened this Eflite FW-190a RC Plane for a friend. The second flight was a near disaster due to the battery position caused a massive tail heavy setup. All in all the plane is wonderful 1.5m WWII warbird.
Dang Will I was sitting here nervous for you! Way to keep your head about you and keep flying. Very nice save! One of the neat things a Spektrum TX has is the ability to do is a audible check list. You run it, and just look at the things it calls out for you as it happens. Checking that the battery is secure and in position is one of the things you can program it to say. Great feature to use with a new plane or when there are people distracting you...or both.
It was a bit sketchy for sure. Just happy to get if down in one piece. As far as check list, this TX didn't have that setup.. (clearly...). I think all the excitement for another flight to work on more details took our eye off the ball. All ended well and lessons learned by the whole crew. Thanks Adam.
Hi ! Therefore I don't focus on expo, high rate and other but on C. of G. The expo and other strange set up in simple models with flaps and retractable landing gear is not important for me. I use only one angle for ailerons, one for ruder, one for elevator and mixer flaps to elevator, 3 position of flaps - zero, 15deg for take off and 30 - 60deg for landing depending on aircraft. When I used expo once, I had a problem because the flight was very different when I used 2nd position of switch ... Best regards Peter
I've had this very same thing happen!! You did an EXCELLENT JOB of hanging on to that bird!! My thoughts are that if it was anything other than a 190 you would have been in restorations class!!
Hey John. I was the pilot for my friend. I should’ve paid attention to the battery prior to that 2nd flight for sure. All ended well though…. Thanks for watching. - Will
@@SteffenRC Oh crap Will, I didn't even read the notes...DUH! Correction, YOU did a great job! I mean, sometimes you just gotta ride that tiger my friend! Superb landing given the situation!
@@robertcovell2787 I get it.. I have a mess of foamies though.. Some balsa builds, (a few Sig kits waiting for their turn on the bench) and small rubber band to electric conversions... If we want more people in the hobby, then foam planes have their place for sure. It's todays easy button... Just screw together a plane and youre flying. I sure like to build a balsa kit though.. Such a sense of satisfaction to build something that flies well.
@@SteffenRC OK let me qualify what I said, I find that the very basic foamy's like Apprentice don't fly like an airplane. I think they are too light. I have the FMS PA18 Super Cub and it's handy and convenient in calm weather but I prefer a larger plane that goes where I point it and doesn't talk back. One of my favourites is a very old Sig Astro Hog with an equally old K&B .61 two smoker. Sig says "Nothing flies like a Hog". I think they are on to something.:):):)
