Sol-Ark is flattered that Luxpower has imitated our revolutionary hybrid inverter design, but to suggest that a cheaper inverter is also a better inverter is inaccurate. AC power is more important than DC power, and Sol-Ark provides 25% more daytime AC power critical for those heavy HVAC and well pumps. On the DC side, either way, the batteries get full on sunny days for well-designed systems. That's a long ways towards that price difference right out of the gate, before getting into MPPT comparison. On that note, the MPPT are very different (~50% more for Sol-Ark). Getting to 18kW on the Luxpower is very difficult, requiring maxing out the MPPT which can trigger temperature design concerns on cold sunny days. Whereas it's easy to max out the Sol-Ark PV capacity due to its full sized MPPTs, even without expensive, premium solar modules. Which begs the question - what solar module configuration did Luxpower use to validate its 18kW claim? Can they show any long term endurance testing to verify that specification? Perhaps Will can do his own testing but the video only goes up to ~14kW. Other technical issues - charge/discharge efficiencies are worse and the certifications don't match Sol-Ark - which has UL9540 2020 and UL1741SB options on the market today as required in California and most of the USA grid-tied market next year, and necessary for those utility battery incentives to improve the ROI. Sol-Ark is proud to be the leader in the hybrid inverter. There are many imitations coming out daily, but only one, true original setting the standard. Also - Best-in-class is not just about engineering, innovation and R&D, but it is in the people and treatment of our customer-base. We're now moving into a 300,000 sq. ft. campus sized for 500 employees in our Texas headquarters.

@@Sol-Ark just learned last night about the increased AC output when solar available on the forum last night. Did not know that at all! I posted the spec after I found it. And fortress power seems to be the first imitation. Not eg4. Yes, we will see what listings they will have and how well the support is. I have no idea at this point. I love the competition though! We need more options in the market, for sure. You guys are the leaders in this space 😁 I'm surprised they didn't imitate every specification. Doesn't seem that hard to do. Love what you guys do and have a lot of happy viewers running your units! I don't think I have a single forum member to have complained about your support, either. It will be interesting to see how these other companies will compare. Do you have any plans to lower prices in the future? I assume you guys sell predominantly to installers, but I could be wrong. I feel like the luxpowers and others coming out will be more popular for direct to consumer. I can't wait to see people compete with the 18K in the next year. Perhaps voltronic will come out with something even better. By the way, I sell all of my sol arks through current connected, and they are fantastic! I am glad you work with them.

@@Sol-Ark and yes I need some more strings. They are saying it can go up to 600VDC on the input. I have a lot of viewers that want a sol ark but simply can't afford it and instead buy the lv6548 clones. For $2,999, it's not bad. Not code compliant in some areas but they are cheap and get the job done. Could sol ark make a off-grid specific unit to compete with the lv6548 clones? That would be so cool!! The more competition the better

@@pvbatts there are some variation between all of the models but I'm not sure yet to what extent. They are saying they can have the VOC up to 600 on the EG4 version. I know there are some differences with the fortress power version as well. I put 500 in the video because that's what they recommend is the working voltage. Some of the official documents are not consistent though so let's see what they have when they are listed.

Software HUI is remarkably similar to the Sol-Ark. As you mentioned, the gripe I have about the Sol-Ark 15k is the amount of room in the wiring area. Also, to use the SA as the grid connect a 200A service panel needs a minimum of 2/0 copper, but SA's punchouts are 1.5". They should have been 2" due to the NEC conduit filling percentage rules. Nobody ever checks out the RF emissions from these inverters. Most of the low frequency sine wave inverters I've tried produce unacceptable levels of RF noise that pretty much wipes out listening to any ham radio or shortwave or even AM radio. Yes I'd love to see Will or someone else set up an HF station or SDR and see what the bands look like in his shop. I'm betting it's entirely wiped out.. I've been playing with solar and also a Ham. They are very difficult to have working together. I haven't tried any of these all in one units and am admittedly using some cheaper chinese stuff like Renogy and a RELIABLE inverter. The problem is, you take a big risk buying one of these things because it might make your radio unusable. The typical suggestions are that you should twist together the positive and negative wires and shield all wires(conduit), plus buy a bunch of toroids and wind ALL wires through one or multiple toroids at every connection point. So PV wires at charge controller, battery wires going out of it, etc.. With an all in one or larger system(assuming it's a problem) that would mean massive toroids for the very large battery cables you need to use. Those are also expensive to purchase. In my experience(which is not a lot), it's still hard to suppress all RFI from an inverter and charge controller. Mix 31 toroids are usually suggested. Right now I'm working on trying to fix an inverter which creates hash while there are extension cords attached but the attached loads are mostly not on. If there is a higher load then the RFI is much less. However if the load is light, there is a lot more RFI. Already wrapped output wires from the inverter in a toroid which helped somewhat but not 100%. None of these companies really seem to care about this problem. I think it could be a more simple thing for them to actually design their circuits to suppress the RFI vs having us all try and suppress it externally with toroids and various things.
@basspig
@basspig Год назад
@@optionstrader9637 it IS enclosed in a grounded metal box. The noise is radiated mainly by the AC output wiring to the panel and also from the solar PV arrays themselves. I don't see the off grid diagram in the manual where you can stack two of these units only for the on grid. etc. Is it designed to run two units in parallel for OFF GRID applications and if so, which wiring diagram should be used?

I am currently setting up an EG4 18KPV and just wanted to report my experience so far with EG4 support, I have made 2 calls and have received great support with very short wait times so far, I just wanted to put that out there if anything changes I will post it up. Depending on how this goes I may be buying a second to be able to use Solar and Battery as my primary source (right now I am setting it up as a critical load panel setup only) with grid for back up under extreme load scenario's (it's in a very large house) but we will see, this is my first solar setup (I do have prior residential electrician experience so can't really comment on the DIY end, it could be a bit daunting I suppose but for me it has been pretty simple), so still experimenting.

Hello Will; New subscriber here and enjoying your videos. I am awaiting delivery of your book on mobile solar and am at the design stage of a complete electrical makeover of a travel trailer for full time boondocking forced upon me by failing health and finances. Everything will be DIY. Just getting ready to order cells and EVE LF280K seem to be the best bang for the buck, and if the 6000 cycle life is correct, it seems they should have a long life. I can order them with 2 threaded posts or the 4 female threaded holes. I own thread chasers and know how to use a torque wrench so I'm not afraid of stripping holes. I'm thinking the 4 bolts on each busbar would have better conduction than the threaded posts. Your opinion please! Any mentoring you are willing to give will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Robin

Excellent video, but the Sol-Ark 15K produce 3KW of extra power? You said 12K was the output of this model from PV. I would also like to know about the Generator starting function and also how many time slots this one has compared to the Sol-Ark 15K.

I have a Sol-Ark 15k and did a video on it. It can push 15kw (12kw to loads and 3kw to charge batteries) when it’s running on solar. When it’s pulling solely from the batteries (off grid at night) it can only push 12kw to the loads. I’ve reviewed the spec sheet on the EG4 18kpv and did a video on it as well. I still can’t figure out if like the Sol-Ark it can utilize 15kw when it’s pulling in solar energy. EG4 hasn’t been very clear on it thus far.

sounds like a great upgrade for those of us who originally built string inverter systems before there were any offgrid/hybrid options for grid connected systems. Any panel adds at this point would kill my NEM 1 agreement with utilities. But in the meantime, I could add this, add battery, and when the time is right (after NEM agreement expires) I can add more panels, and handle fully electric home needs plus EV. Thanks.

Can you please test all of these systems you are reviewing with an oscilloscope. I would like to see the "quality" of the AC sine wave itself from the inverters going to the main load panel. People may be using sensitive electronic equipment in an off grid situation. The quality of the sine wave is critical for longevity and consistency of the equipment. From my experience the cheaper inverters can chop or distort the sine wave where it can cause problems. Curious if these products are cutting corners in this department.

I've tested all of the inverters in my shop about a year ago and the THD was lower than the grid so it's not even a concern to me at all. If you're buying an inverter from harbor freight then yes you should be worried. When you spend a few thousand dollars it's just not going to happen. I'll keep checking them though, I still do.

What a great video. What a great product I hope the long-term is great. There's no way I can afford it right now but if it's a great product long-term I want to get one. What a great idle consumption. I have to watch the video again I can't quite remember or understand how much PV input you need to make it run. It seemed like that was rather High. That could be one downfall for people that don't have a million panels. I'll have to recheck it or if somebody has time they can let me know in a comment. Very impressive . N once again i really love your video presentations.😊😊

I have to call electrician). But I have load up to 9kW (oven) that on only for a short period of time (secs to 1-2min). I need a solution to hold short 9kW load and keep grid input lower than 5.5kW

Question regarding pass-through: When the house load exceeds the AC output of the inverter (supply from battery or solar or both), does the inverter passthrough the grid completely? Or does the inverter passthrough only the incremental power from grid? Example: If house load goes from 10kw to 17kw, will it passthrough all of the 17kw from grid? or just the additional 5kw from grid (17kw load - 12kw output rating) . Thank you

ABSOLUTELY DO NOT BUY THIS UNIT! My system worked great for like 9 months then started having problems and Signature Solar technical support gave incorrect solutions and unit burned up and could have burned down my house. I'm off grid and Signature Solar dragging their feet with replacement. I have no electricity except generator. Don't get all in one system as if one component goes down you have to replace entire unit and it will take weeks to get replacement. This will cost me in fuel 23:18 tremendously .
