Ha! I just ate one a neighbor gave me for the first time. She has a tree and I see them on the sidewalk when they fall on the other side of her fence. Always wondered wth they were. Not as big as the one you had tho. It has a sweet potato texture and taste. Pretty cool. How about trying coconut milk? Honey for sweet. Vanilla extract would be good. A tbl spoon of unsweetened choc baking powder. Nice, I subscribed.
Atzapotl, Coztictzapotl (Water sapote, yellow zapote) is also native to Mexico. Funny how people change the origin of fruits. Like here in Mexico we call cashews "nuez de la India", which is translated as Indian nut, however you have to remember that the Americas were called the west Indies, considering it comes from Brazil.
you do rock! you deserve more views and subcribers. thanks for doing this I would never in a million years get to taste any of these, as I'm curreently more or less confined to my bed due . your expressions when you taste some these priceless 😂!
It would be cool if you could put the names in the description, latin ones too. Maybe saying what region its native too also. I like your videos though thanks for posting.
There is a supermarket in Westminster, CA called ABC Supermarket. In the same plaza, they have a bunch of tropical fruit shops. Currently it is January and I saw this egg fruit available there but they do charge a small fortune for it. I got a couple and I’m excited to try it out. I’ve been looking for it for years!
I may be late on this, but in Homestead we get a 2 month canistel crop (Jan-Mar) and out of all the times ive had canistel, never had it to the point where it was that soft. Our variety take at least 4-5 days to ripen off tree.
+Jared Rydelek yes, the seed of eggfruit is edible. as i said, you just need to boil them or put them over the fire until the outer seed burn a bit. then eat the inside. delicious. By the way, do you know that durian seeds are edible also. Boiled way.
WE have these trees here in Dauin, Negros Oriental, however most folks don't like the texture or taste! I first encountered the fruit in Yucatan in 1974 on a vacation. Next time in the Philippines where I have planted several trees!
We call it baby food because of it's consistency (looks like Gerber) here in Philippines. In the place where I live before there's a tree of it along side the road and people doesn't care. When its ripe it becomes so soft that just a gust of winds it will off the tree and get smashed on the ground that's why you need to pick it while its just about to get ripe.
The thing about the Philippines is in different areas they have different names for the same fruit. Maybe that because of the different languages. In other parts they call that Canistel
sweetness, texture and taste can be different with each variety. The key is to make sure that you get the ripe, still firm to touch, and not bruised ones. You got a nice one here.
Yeah, there's not even any alcohol in it, so you can't really get away with calling it eggnog at that point. It's an eggfruit smoothie with some spices in it.
Its taste good, we have lots of it in Philippines as well, like every where esp in provinces. its sweet... its really popular also during xmas in here ,and i dont really know why but they normally have those on a table. ;)
just letting you know i been told by fruit growers experts here in Australia you can eat the Skin obviously wash the thing before chomping on it, the Canistel is a messy fruit stains the fingers and clothes and any other apparel that the bits drop onto. its got that Raw Egg subsitute without the potential of Salmonella contamination of real eggs. Its a good fruit alas here in Australia if your don't eat it when its ripe the Qld fruit fly will destroy it in the fruit bowl. thx for your honest review bud.

I make much better vegan eggnog! Black salt helps a lot with the egg flavor and it's actually pale pink like clay. There's nothing better than fresh nutmeg I have a bunch of them and whenever I feel down I go out in the kitchen and sniff them and it makes me feel better. I will never use powdered nutmeg again!
Supposedly there is a very big difference between different varieties of canistel. I tried it once and was assured that the one I got was a variety that was supposed to be sweeter. I liked it but the texture is oddly dry.
Greenmama's Garden I've had maybe 4-5 varieties, there is quite a bit of variation in my experience but nothing hugely noticeable. Some are sweeter, some are dryer, some are more flavorful. The most interesting thing to me has been the shape, I've had some small and rounded like a plum and others that are as big as my hand and elongated. I've bought them on different occasion only because I though they were a different fruit. :)
We call it "Campoleh" here. We have the small and the big one. Btw, have you ever tried the purple one? I like it better than the yellow and brown sapotes.
i researched the name of the fruit. its Canistel or Tisa to what we call it here in the Philippines. Maybe try to visit Philippines specially Davao City. :)
Jared Rydelek ahh.. You should try there..loads of wierd fruits there as well..like we call LOMBOY it's a black fruits lok like a cherry oval shape and it's delicious :D
Lol really where you can have this fruits. Im from Vietnam & the fruits almost gone because nowadays not much people eat them. When i was a little kid, my mother always buy me some, because its cheapest with small price i have have alots of them. Taste is sweet but not my fav, i almost forget the taste (lie, i still remember) year before sometimes i saw in some market but like one if million of luck.
Try getting these in nyc :o its almost impossible. I've never been to Vietnam but have seen these in Laos, Thailand, Hong Kong and the Philippines. The only place they were easy to find was Laos. I'm surprised they aren't that popular. I would buy them all the time if i could.
Cats are totally like that. See, this is why the Egyptians worshiped them. They basically had no choice. The cats got all jealous of the other Gods, started purring and meowing and the humans were all like...aren't they cute? (insert eerily sad music here...) And...that's the story of how cat worshiping became the religion of choice in ancient Egypt. PS I used to give my cats regular offerings of catnip and salmon back in the day...
innocent looking man eats weird fruit for our better understanding, and watches terrible movies in his free time. idk why I feel so weird about this lmao
Wet boiled egg yolk with fruity floral flavors. Almost a artificial fruity flavor out of place for the texture. Over ripe is wetter and sweeter for sure. Sapodilla then mamey are my picks. Not a fan of this one
Wow this is 6 years old Video , but I just saw it , and I got to laugh at a Vietnamese vendor who told you it's a Vietnamese Avocado , there is no such a thing as a Vietnamese Avocadol lol , in VN people call it '' Le Ki Ma '' that guy just made it up because he was asked abruptly so he had to invent something according to him I guess lol , and for the seed I have never seen any one eating it personally so I can't confirm on that but be careful when you eating seeds from fruits , some of them can be poisonous , we need you to be safe and sound for along time to make more Videos for us my friend , they are interesting , Thank you and see you soon lol
I like eggs, so this is right up my street. In fact, all the sapotes sound like the best thing ever, so hopefully I'll find myself in the same country as one someday! As for your choice of music; I had some trouble placing it at first, but it did not leave me with a nice feeling. Well, duh. (Sure, not saying Salò or Cannibal Holocaust are cheerful, but at least their music is! Kind of...)
Sapotes are the best! Yeah.. I don't especially like this song, but couldn't think of any other notoriously disturbing movies with a cheerful soundtrack. Any suggestions?
Sure thing Nicole. All my recipes on here are vegan, but usually its just juice, jam or roasted fruit seeds. I've got a couple ideas though for future episodes that will be more interesting.
Jared Rydelek really? wow okay this was the first video of yours that had recipe in it so I didn't know. and yeah that's awesome!! keep doing your thing:)
Yeah I think if you go to my channel page there is a search option, just search "recipe". To clarify though the "Jian Bing" recipe I have is not vegan, but you could probably use an egg substitute.
The vendors there call everything something like that to sound more interesting to tourists. I saw them selling muscadine grapes once as "Taiwanese grapes" makes no sense at all.
