Holy shyt, and I thought the Yoshi char specific section in Melee was dead. I remembered always conversing w/ Shiri, BETA, Svampen, Straight, and all other Yoshi mains about Yoshi back b4 Brawl came out time and time again...and to think now in the year 2011 we get to see Yoshi reach that plateau we always wanted to him to see. I saw some cool tricks and movement and innovative combos, but I feel as though a video of this length shouldn't be made until you were ready. The video was good, but I feel as though you could have done more given a little longer to push the character. Great music and editing as well, might I add. =)

5:07 reminded me of fumi. 6:25 LOL jeff didn't know how to defend himself. this combo video is ridiculous. fucking arizona and their amazing under the bottom tier characters.

Actually, those are parries. The first 7 frames of Yoshi's shield makes him invincible (much like when you respawn). He is also able to jump out of his shield on the first 6 frames, which means he can block an attack (undergoing no hitlag or shield stun) and immediately grab, up smash, or jump (into a double jump cancel aerial, wavedash, or anything else). You can tell it isn't super armor because he does not take percent in those clips.

ah ok. when i read ur comment i thought u were blaming samus's mid tier (low competitively) status as the main reason for samus losing games. Because character match ups is one of the main stats that determines the character's tier. and yes tier's are still real, @ORG13RIKU15 but tiers and match ups don't determine match, they do however affect it. also the fact that a tier list is pubic and well known gives no one the means to john about their character because everyone knows where each stands

whether u have a 50/50 matchup or not doesn't determine the match, playing the game while knowing what ur character can and can't do is what will determine the match, and is also what determines the good players from the scrubs. if u wanna bitch about match ups stats, then u might as well drop all ur other mains and play fox (caus then ur problems will be solved right?) or just stop playing the game. If u can only wrap ur head around the character matchup stats, then u'll never be a good player

i play at a high level well just started playing higher level in this game i know tiers are real but since im learning from some pro ny players i seen some crazy low tier upset the 4 tournaments i went 2 ( dj nintento just won no johns with bowser and won mage with samus ) . but i guess im just saying these things because i main a low tier charterer =/ lol

I see such a Fumi Yoshi here. Very obvious that he was an inspiration. Not a bad thing, he had a very hard playing style. Props for being able to pull all of this off. Extremely fucking wrecking Yoshi, there. I'd hate to be caught in a dark alleyway with a copy of Melee with you.

The "super armor" is Yoshi's parry. After he inputs sheild, he's invincible for a few frames while the egg is forming and he can also cancel it with jump. It's good to see Melee Yoshi finally put this to use. It's one of the biggest things he's got going for him.

Seconding what bigz said; Astounded by the use of parry, and it makes me want to drop all the tech-skill I've accumulated with Yoshi in Brawl to pick up Yoshi in Melee. The one melee video I've watched in a while that DIDN'T put me to sleep. XD

a samus main ruled the ssbm world for the longest (nyc) and samus is still beast lol ..it really is knowing a match up there are tier differences though...but trust ive seen a guy rape lambchops with his bowser

Fucking awesome! I always wanted to use Yoshi, but DJC and alot of his other techniques were hard for me to master effectively compared to most characters. Awesome video man!

First Yoshi combo vid where I've seen parrying being used. I just might actually play melee Yoshi again after being inspired from this video. Great stuff man.

Nobody here is wrapping their head about matchups. I'm explaining to that moron that tiers exist, but alas, scrubs believe they're right and they've never competed in tournaments. I'm a solid Samus, and the fact that I understand she has limitations makes me a better player because I learned how to work around them. Ask any good player who plays a mid to low tier. They will agree that tiers are very real.

I don't see your uploads anywhere? The fact that you play in tournaments doesn't mean anything. Obviously you aren't good enough for your name to be known. I know the feeling, but denying that your characters has more limitations than the top tiers is bad. As a Samus main, I am well aware that my SHFFL sucks, and that my grab is very limited, so I shape my game around those limitations. To be honest with you, DJ Nintendo is a good player, but he's not over the top amazing... Top Texas players would never lose to a player going full bowser. (I actually consider bowser almost complete trash).

@CIZMANG So you're saying the video is bad because Yoshi can't compete with top tier? This is pretty good for a Yoshi and I honestly think it takes way more skill to play with low tiers in competitive environment. I'm not saying low tiers are bad and you need to be damn pro to play them. I'm saying, there is a reason they're low tier. It takes on good player to destroy an avarage fox/falcon with yoshi/mew2/pika/DK/Kirby or bowser. Also I don't recall V3ctorMan saying he was the best.

@louman7777777 It just takes an equally good player to beat someone using someone in S tier ya know. speaking of tournaments here is what i dont understand, why do people work so hard to master ONE (just one) game so they could win money instead of getting good at it to a degree and actually getting money by other means like getting a job that pays well. (not saying people who try to be the best and win tourneys dont have a job)also i just want to make it clear im not trying to start an argument

how do you double jump cancel your aerials so quickly? are you just pressing x/y twice really quickly and then using the c-stick (a for nair) to get it? or is there some kind of trick like jumping with x/y and then pressing up on the analog stick to get the double jump in?

tiers are just excuses mah man. it's 100% the player not the character.tiers are something sucky players came up with to justify their suckiness. it's all about meta-game, reading your opponent and being smart enough to know what to do and when to do it. And advance tech of course.

I'll say my first comment was a bit harsh and uncalled for, but at the time I just felt it had to be said. I'll just say I would never post a clip in a combo video if I didn't get the kill unless it was something amazing. Hate me all you want, but I'm sure most of you suck at the game lol.

LOL so much salt for being real. You guys are missing my point. Vectorman is good; I just feel that this video was premature and he could've waited till he got better clips. I can tell a lot of you don't know what a good combo video should look like. I hope he makes a new/better one soon.

@CIZMANG Maybe you should post a vid of you playing Fox so the whole world can say you only pulled off your "combos" because your opponents were bad and it had absolutely nothing to do with reading your opponents. Saying this Yoshi is bad is like saying you're not an idiot.

And while it's true that some characters have disadvantages, they make it up with their own advantages. You just can't use that as an excuse dewd, instead just step your game up, prove the sucky players wrong and win a tournament with your "mediocre" samus.

You don't know what you are talking about. Tiers were created by players who understand the game. Tiers stem from matchups, and if you tell me that ever character has a 50/50 matchup with every other character, you don't know anything about melee.

I don't know what world you lived in, but Samus never ruled in SSBM. Sheik was the strongest character in 2002-2005, then it was arguably Fox or Marth. and Now it's Fox or Falco. Samus never came close. If you're ever near Texas I'll show you actual Melee.

your yoshi's amazing. yoshi's probably my best character in ssb but to be this good with him in melee is insane. this video really inspires me to play yoshi more. keep up the good shit, i hope to see you placing in high spots in big tournaments.

@louman7777777 well that kinda proves my point, the lower tiers can be just as good but they arent used often so its harder to figure out what things they can do, which frankly, i find retarded that everyone favors the top characters

After the intro song, the first song makes me want to save the world. The second song is like me trying to save the world and the third song is me still trying to save the world. The ending song is celebrating the safety of the world. XD

Aaaaaaahhhh, so much perfectshielding into nair. So awesome. One of Yoshi's most awesome techniques, it can shut down so many shield pressuring options. You use it sooooo well. Genuinely impressive combo video, this is the life of Yoshi right here. :P

no such thing as low tier in ssbm .....if you ask me its just the player behind the controller that makes the character

a couple things. cizmang you clearly didnt read that this is a COMBO video. and if i ve learned anything, its that any character is good, you jsut have to work your character and in the hands of a pro anything is possibe

you may say that im a noob but i never play with yoshi and to see a yoshi player is rare. But let me do a question: at the time 5:42 how do you do that shield of yoshi to be anti-knock-back effect by the kick of fox or any hit?

@SmashLuigiFan1 Vectorman is the only yoshi that actually did anything. And he still doesn't go toe to toe with the best. Mind you he's fantastic, but this video doesn't mean tiers don't mean crap.

lol I love how you slow the video down so we can see each glorious parry. The music was good (esp. the end) and I loved how the perfect play of that Yoshi Story stage.

@Radiohead203U29 Yoshi has something known as a parry shield (also in smash 64 btw), if you barely use a shield right as an attack hits, the attack misses completely.

@johnnynapkins as you are running, you can hold down on the control stick and it will stop your run more abruptly than just letting it rest in a neutral position.
