I edge all the time with my ego string trimmer and the guard is not in the way you just have to look at the string when you turn it on and study where the tip is when the unit is spinning! Once you get a good idea when the tip of the string is cutting you simply stick it in the ground and follow the edge all the way to your destination. It takes practice but the guard helps a lot because as you go through worn out string the unit replaces the string allowing for a sharper cut!! And always keep a spare ego guard and spare ego trimmer head because they do get worn out from hitting surfaces.

I just received my EGO ST1620T today, but the front handle broke when I tightened the bolt. Customer service was already closed for the day, so I guess I'll see if they will send me a new handle or if I have to send the whole unit back to Amazon.

Has anyone used line iq without the guard? Yes, I know you’re “not” supposed to but just curious if it impacts how line iq functions.

Can you remove and use without string gaurd? What’s the rotation direction of the string head?

use a 2.5Ah battery if you find it balances better with a lighter weight at the upper end. Use a shoulder strap. The key issue for me is whether LineIQ actually works. Some reports of it delaying feeding too long so you are stuck with a shorter than desirable string length with no manual override have me concerned this is one of those features that adds unnecessary complexity and underperforms.

All in all he gave it "One Finger Up" and took it back. lol

The handle is instaled wrong, the curve is sopposed to be toward the battery.
