Great video, I think I might get one finally. I've been using Ego for over seven years now. I feel you should always get the battery with each product because it is half the price of buying the battery by itself. (when you finally need one). Plus, it makes it easier to sell if you want to upgrade to a newer product.😃
Thanks for watching. If you don't need the batteries I did just see it on sale at ACE online for $370 which is $100 less than I paid. The only other complaint I have is it needs some skid plates on the front because the metal gets scraped and starts rusting. I may install some skids myself.
Enjoyed your video and comments. I considered buying a Toro, although it appears to be a solid machine, the variety of batteries are limited. I like the EGO because it does have various batteries including generic that you can chose from. Replacement parts are easier to obtain as well.
Thanks for watching. I was able to use the 10 amp from my EGO lawn mower and the 5 amp from my chainsaw and it goes for 30-45 min which is plenty. Saved me over $400 and I don't need batteries during the winter for anything but the snow blower. I just wish it had a skid plate so the front didn't get scratched up.
Ego single-stage snow blower has the scraper bar problem after a few usages. If the scraper bar is worn off, it will keep jarring down on the ground and unable to move forward. I have this jarring down problem and it is very frustrating. I have to keep changing the scraper bar after a few usages. Last year, I added a pair of slide shoes skid in the front auger box, which seems to do better. This year I removed the pair of shoe skids, and I added two 6" wheels in the front auger box, I hope this will solve the jarring down problem.
Thanks! - yes I know I've seen people add the skid plate onto the front. Luckily my driveway is smooth so I haven't had problems. You should have done a video on the wheels I would have watched it!
Great review. I’ve been considering Ego steel, Ego auger assist, vs Toro. I like the design of Ego with the exception the the bottom scrapper should have a better design since there are lots of complaints on Utube about earlier damage and the scalper hitting cracks in the cement stopping forward progress. I’m 74 so I was considering the auger assist but reviews don’t suggest any advantage over the steel auger which should longer life. Based on your review and a few others, I think I’m considering the regular steel auger. Ego seem to have better convenience design features. Hopefully with a new driveway last summer I won’t run in to the hitting cracks problem for a while.
Thanks Ira! I have been very happy with it so far this year. It is very easy to push and it does seem to pull itself forward a bit in deeper snow like the auger assist version. I have 5 other EGO products and have loved them so I don't think you can go wrong with this blower. Just be warned once you start buying their tools it's hard to stop.
Gotta add to this comment. My wife and I only own the trimmer so far but I love that thing. We have a snowstorm on the way and need a blower. I'm considering this or a toro gasser. Let see
I remember someone telling me to just keep going when mowing/snow blowing because constantly turning on and off the unit waste more power. Not sure how that works but yeah.
Thanks Ricardo I'm just getting used to this snowblower so I will try out different methods. Luckily my driveway isn't big so I have no problem with the batteries so far. We have gotten a ton of snow this year so I'm very happy I have it.
Def a learning curve but it easy to pick up. You also have to what I like calling “feeding the beast” lol. The more snow you feed the further it will toss it. This is mainly when you have those lighter snowfalls like in this video. Walk as fast as you can, you get more momentum behind it. It’s hard when the snow is light.
ive had this blower for 5 years. only issue i see is that black metal area is starting to rust and have rust holes in it. i recommend drying it off if you can before putting it away. ego told me thats not a warranty issue...they say its cosmetic.
Yes, it is fine. You must have missed the beginning of my video where I said I’m using my 10 and 5 amp hour batteries. It seems like it uses the biggest battery up first.
I haven't used Kobalt but I have had several Ryobi tools that worked OK. The reason I went over to EGO brand is the battery technology and the long history they have improving their tool lines. The batteries are very powerful and they have many years of testing and improving weaknesses in the equipment. I've been very happy.
I use greenworks. They are amazing for their snow stuff, I have an 80v snow shovel and blower. Both are amazing and comparable to ego for performance and quality.
Thanks it has made my life much easier this year. It seems like our winter is going to be much more extreme. I love the Snow Plow brand shovels! They even sharpen themselves as you shovel.
It will depend on what size batteries you buy/have and the snow conditions (how much you throttle up in deep or heavy snow). I have 5 and 10 amp hour batteries I use in it and can get over 45 minutes with normal 3-5 inch snow fall.
@@beckhamzhang4805 Yes I am using a 5 and 10 and it seems to drain them both at the same time. I just saw this on sale at ace hardware online for $370 without batteries which is $100 less than I paid.
@@yardbuddha Local ACE is selling self propel rubber auger $899 (regular $999). It comes with 2 56v 7.5 amp batteries. Home depot gives 10% off. So the price is the same. I am considering to buy this in December, hoping they have better deal due to Christmas. Thanks for your suggestions.
@@beckhamzhang4805 Did you check at ace online? I just saw the steel auger version today (which is what you want - not rubber) for $369 without batteries. You can have it delivered to your local store usually. If you don't have batteries yet it's better to buy them with the tool.
Thanks. The snow that day was very light so it was blowing everywhere no matter what height I had it on. I had a few more snow days with heavier and more snow and the most upright shoot worked great. Don't know if you saw this video yet: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FxjuzKSI-mE.html
Yeah, It's always fun to see people's techniques with snow blowers, I mean what else is there to do in the dead of winter besides doom scroll the real-time effects of climate change? So I see a new catalog of your videos on the video tab, but if I may be so bold on part 1 of your ego review with the small snow depth I'd suggest a different camera angle or camera count for videos. Yeah, not anybody can go out and purchase a collection of RU-vid production video equipment, like maybe 2 cameras instead of just one. I also noticed your mention of getting a little extra coinage jingle in your pocket due to snow-blowing work, if that's what you meant. So yeah, a bit more engagement as in an old-time radio show if you're going to stick with one camera. In fact, check out this video of a RU-vidr reviewing the same product but making a whole dialog with the viewers as entertainment, sure, he had a drone and was showing us his learning curve and maybe had more change in his pocket to get this production equipment to begin with, but he made it entertaining and though we learn much in the RU-vid world besides learning how to use a screwdriver many viewers want that extra of almost semi-snarky story creation or dialog. But that's just me. I did watch part 2 and liked the camera placement there more than in part one. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1hwxtDtd6Kc.html Info: (regarding ego snow-blowers) I sprung for the pricier model for a number of reasons the least of which would be my doctor's opinion of shoveling snow after an involved operation recovery period plus I was already vested in the product line's branded mower, which I really love compared to any form of petro branded lawn and garden equipment. I imply that here in the US we are all somewhat a bunch of convenience junkies, (note: keeping it clean for RU-vid with that last comment), Anyway, I'm more an old retired RU-vid viewer and not a producer by any stretch, so sorry if I'm overstretching my Hollywood production mind. Thanks for the videos.
Thanks Tim. I've just been fooling around with my GoPro recording things that I think might be interesting to others while I'm out in my yard. I know there are higher quality producers out there but this is just a hobby right now and not my job. My motto is to not let great get in the way of good so a lot of the time I just let it flow. I try not to post junk videos so I think most of my stuff has some information people can use.
