Michael Langley yes it is. It's illegal to interfere with any aspect of your vehicle designed to control emissions. So deleting the EGR, removing or boring out the DPF, disabling the SCR system, or removing a catalytic converter would all be illegal.
Also a large number of ford diagnosed head gasket failures on 6.0's were miss diagnosed EGR cooler failures. Air pockets in the coolant will crack most any EGR cooler. If some one told me they bought a new EGR cooler for their truck, I'd tell them they wasted their time and money. That's like paying to replace the dinger that tells you to buckle up.
An egr is snake oil! If you measure airflow in and out in egr and non egr situations on the dyno. The intake air volume increases during egr operation to maintain hp and fuel burn increases as well. On a 6.0 exhaust is only pulled from the right bank of exhaust so what about the left bank? Nox is reduced in mg's per litre of fuel burned but not by HP hrs. so to do the same work the polutants are the same but it takes more fuel to do the same work...Sounds like a really good deal to me?
Um there has been new studies that say removing nox does not help the ozone pollution. For one which everyone that owns a diesel with egr, know that with the egr it clogs up causing lose of performance which causes more fuel consumption and oil changes for however long you been driving it with egr also it retards the timing which causes more fuel consumption so in the end your buying more and polluting more. So honestly its causing more problems then solving anything. If big oil and big gov honestly wanted to do something about it now, we would be running hydrogen or electric by now. But obviously they re all about scamming the customer into more money for oil and gov fines/funding...
Scratch Back nox isn't for ozone. it's for health reasons. nox stays close to the ground and peeps can breath it. so whatever "studies that say removing nox does not help the ozone pollution" are moot.

The whole purpose behind an egr delete is to reduce heat in the engine and especially the coolant. When towing your exhaust gets super hot over heats your coolant your coolant then overheats your heads warps them then you blow head gaskets and all hell breaks loose. If not caught soon you fry the egr heads turbo and eventually the whole engine. DELETE IT!
People must also remember EGR systems are to cool combustion chamber temp's, so in a diesel a way to remove heat ok ye bonus for sure, personaly i reccommend there system or a stock one, for some reason the engines last just as long with or without the cooler it depends on maintance and operation fo the truck, its easy pay attention to what your truck is telling you when its stock, my uncle's 6.0l 2004, 300k Km's totaly stock, Egr Valve twice is all the replacement's

I have pressure (bubbles in coolant system) when engine is hot. But I don't have white smoke from exhaust on first start or anytime in long drive. It is losing water little bit from cooling system. What can be problem? Car is golf plus 2.0 TDI 16V BKD engine.

Nobody ever mentions that the EGR also lowers combustion temperatures which is important on a diesel that tows, or is under a lot of load regularly. That is the only true pro of not deleting the EGR valve. Also, Ford has updated the factory coolers now, and they are much more reliable. I would say spending $$$$ on an aftermarket cooler is no longer a necessity.

Robert Kessler It's not that simple. It's not an in and out process. The air enters the combustion chamber and is compressed (heats up). Fuel is introduced and combustion occurs (heated intake air explodes even more heat is generated). Exhaust gas is not combustible. When introduced into the chamber via EGR it does not reignite because it is comprised of additional elements created during the initial combustion process which are undesirable for recombustion. This EGR gas in turn provides a cooling effect to the cylinders, because even though it is exhaust gas, it is much, much cooler than the air which was just compressed, and combusted. This is why deleting the EGR on modern engines causes pinging, and preignition. This is also why too much EGR feed into a cylinder strangles the cylinder (misfires, and/or stalling).
I remove dpf filter od my Vauxhall Insygnia And remap the car . I was yesterday wt Vauxhall service And they told me That egr coller is leaking, schould I change This?.. I think when they remove pdf filter they Switch of egr valve... schould I change now egr coller? .. please help
No part is 100% reliable. The more complicated you build it the more often it will break. But then again that's why my engine is mechanically injected. If I had a 6.0, I'd pull the intake and patch the holes myself. Buy a tuner and get a lil better mpg, horsepower and let your engine run the way it should run.
No. If you have excess carbon in your oil you have an expensive mechanical issue. Oil color has nothing to do with carbon in your oil and the EGR. Oil has the following jobs. Clean, Lubricate, Cool, and Quiet. The change is due to the facts as soon as clean oil contacts any contamination it does its job as a solvent to clean the parts and carry away the contaminants. Oil is also heated to near 1000 deg at the piston crown and rings,between the temp and pressure the chemistry of the oil changes and remember its job cleaning. add to the fact oil is compressed to 3000psi in the HPOP to activate the injectors, in addition to being compressed between close tolerance, fast moving, hot engine parts. In short the oil takes allot of abuse no matter what the engine is.
Bob Wolf your wrong. the egr system fills the air intake with carbon soot build up. this makes its way back into the combustion chamber.. blow by through the piston rings will case some.of that carbon to go into the oil shortening it's life.

I had a friend install a egr delete kit on my 05 f350....on the removel of egr value he plug it in and laid it on the block...been working good, NO check engine light.

etekballer14 they feed exhaust gas back into the engine from a re-direct in the exhaust pipes and back through the intake. The EGR cooler simply cools down this very hot exhaust, in order to not rob the engine of all of its power. You are essentially pumping hot, sooty, low oxygen "air" back into where the engine breaths in. the goal is to burn the soot on the 2nd go around. soot is pretty much incompletely burned fuel. when gas engines run rich, you smell the unburnt fuel in the exhaust. when a diesel is running rich or not combusting the fuel 100%, you get that signature black soot. EGRs mainly are there to reduce the amount of soot coming out of your tailpipe and much of it gets stuck somewhere in your engine bay, such as the EGR valve. I hope this explains it better for you.
Brandon N I have a bulletproof EGR cooler on my personal truck and the main difference over the ford EGR is durability. the bulletproof EGR has a much more rebust design and does not fail like the stock one. The main reason people also change the oil cooler as well when installing a new EGR is a clogged oil cooler will kill the EGR fast. another reason is more "while i'm taking stuff apart in that area, i might as well" because the oil cooler itself isn't all that pricey, but the labor to get to it is.

Marius Negrean On a diesel there are little other issues. A gasoline engine most of the time sees reduced fuel mileage and decreased throttle response during part throttle open conditions. A diesel runs all the air it can consistently and the response is essentially controlled by the injector pump. Thus you see little change.
Good luck with the lawsuit considering their one of the only companies in the industry trying to find emission friendly solutions for diesel trucks. Probably should go after the ones designing emission delete products rather than the ones making products that are safe for the environment. Not a very well thought out tactic you have their if your goal was to stop companies from producing emissions delete equipment.

Huh, this guy hasn't seen half the rigs in Texas then! If it is so illegal then why do the inspection shops not look for these mods? I mean as far as I know as long as the computer isn't throwing codes at you they don't care. Plus if the US burned cleaner diesel this bull wouldn't be an issue.
Living in Texas, you've made the decision to delete mine easier. I've always been wary of deleting it and not passing inspection. The only times I've heard of deleting them causing anyone any problems is if they are pulled over by some State trooper who's on a power trip, they can fine you 10 grand because it's a federal law, not a state law. I've found myself wondering if anyone has done the research to see how much less pollution it actually puts out. You get better mileage with it deleted, but less pollutants; but how much does it really add up comparing the extra fuel used up over time. To me, you would think better mileage would out way slightly less pollutants.
Try to get a deleted hot shot truck to pass a level 1 inspection at a weight station....in any state!!!!....won't happen ......you will be o.o.s with that truck ......

Just get a decent filtered catch can & it will stop the blow by that the EGR Delete does not. The so-called nasty carbon needs to go into the cylinders to create a leaner & cooler detonation, so you use less fuel & your motor runs cooler. Without the recirculated soot going into the cylinders the ECU releases more fuel to make up for the lack of soot so you get a hotter detonation and your engine runs hotter.. Soot is not wet, it is dry & it does not stick to the manifold on its own, it doesn't happen unless the intake manifold is coated in wet oil fumes first. EGR Delete does not stop this process, but it will add to your fuel bill & shorten your engine life.
