Egypt is definitely an impressive, surprising and overwhelming country. For two months we traveled criss-cross through the land of the Pharaohs and let me tell you: Egypt has much more to offer than just the Pyramids and the Great Sphinx of Giza!
So if you're curious where all these other places are, feel free to check out this blogpost about our personal highlights: www.the-vegan-...

TWO SEAS MEET BUT DO NOT MIX SCIENTIFIC MIRACLE OF HOLY QUR'AN How Jacques Cousteau accepted Islam In France, Islam is very quickly spreading among those people, who have become famous in the most different fields of knowledge and activity. Today, the number of people, who left Christianity and accepted Islam has already reached over a hundred thousand. Among those, who preferred Islam. Great French scientist, oceanographer, initiator of researches of sea and ocean depths, inventor of an aqualung, underwater house, the device for “diving saucer,” author of many popular books and films, Jacque Cousteau is known all through the world. But very few people know, that scientific researches carried out by him and facts of reflection in the Qur’an of many scientific signs have led him to accept Islam; and that he died as a Muslim. In a TV series, “Alive Sea,” Capt. Cousteau uncovers surprising underwater world of the seas, rivers and oceans before people. Investigating water open spaces in strait of Gibraltar, he found out but surprising facts not explained by science: Existence of two water layers, not mixing up with each other. They as if are divided by a film and have among themselves precise border. Each of them has temperature, salt structure, animal and flora. These are waters of Mediterranean Sea and Atlantic Ocean adjoining with each other in Strait of Gibraltar. “In 1962,” tells Jacque Cousteau, “German scientists found out that in Bab Al-Mandeb, where waters of Gulf of Aden and Red sea converge, waters of Red sea and Indian ocean do not mix up. Following example of colleagues, we began to find out, whether waters of Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea mix up. First, we investigated water of Mediterranean Sea, its natural level of salinity, density and forms of life inherent in it. We made the same in Atlantic Ocean.” These two weights of water meet in Strait of Gibraltar already for a thousand years, and it would be logical to assume that these two huge water weights for a long time should get mixed up, their salinity and density should become identical, or, at least, similar. But even in places, where they converge closely, each of them keeps its properties. In other words, in places of merger of two weights of water, water curtain does not allow them to mix up.” At detection of this obvious and improbable fact, the scientist was extremely surprised. “I long rested on laurels at this surprising phenomenon which is not explained by laws of physics and chemistry,” writes Cousteau. But he tested even greater surprise and admiration, when he found out that this is already written in Qur’an for more than 1400 years back. He learned about it from the French doctor Maurice Bucaille, who had earlier accepted Islam. “When I told to him about my discovery, he told me that this has already been told 1400 years back in Qur’an.” It was for me as thundering during clear sky. And it really so appeared when I looked at translations of Qur’an. Then I exclaimed: “I swear, that this Qur’an, which 1400 years ago lagged behind modern science, cannot be the speech of a person. It is true speech of Almighty.” After that I accepted Islam and each day I was amazed by truth, justice, ease, utility of this religion. “I am indefinitely grateful that He opened my eyes for Truth,” writes Cousteau. Great footage. Have any more? I find it difficult to imagine that you traveled to the Middle East, and didn't enjoy the lamb and dairy products. You're neglecting one of the most wonderful parts of being human: The Joy of Eating. Enjoy the world and all it has to offer. Veganism - particularly when you're traveling - only serves to separate you from the society that you come to observe and interact with. Breaking bread and sharing meals with the locals is one of the most wonderful ways to peer into the window of another culture. Your veganism is the ultimate form of white privilege. Think of all the poor minorities that don't have the privilege of choosing what not to eat. Unless it truly is an allergy to flesh and dairy (even the organic kind), veganism is a form of mental illness. I encourage you to reconsider. One day, when you're old and on your deathbed (and more than likely lived just as long (but not as happily) as carnivores), you'll look back at all the lost opportunities to have some incredibly delicious meals.
@TheVeganTravelers
@TheVeganTravelers 6 лет назад
Dear TEXAGONIA, Thank you for your comment. I think there is a big misunderstanding: We don't neglect the joy of eating at all, quite the contrary: We have never celebrated and cherished eating and food as much as we do since going vegan! And I guess since having a vegan food and travel blog, it is quite obvious that we do have lots of incredibly delicious meals. Regarding your accusation of veganism being "the ultimate form of white privilege", I think this video is very helpful for you: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6El3Jo1BT_k.html Also check out twitter.com/vegansidekick/status/825386204090793986 Actually, I think it is almost ignorant to write this under a video of Egypt where vegan dishes are the cheapest and most common kinds of food, including national dishes such as koshary, foul, falafel or ta’amiya, aish baladi, baba ganoush and many more as you can read in our blogpost about vegan food in Egypt: www.the-vegan-travelers.com/en/africa/egypt/vegan-in-egypt.html We almost exclusively went to places where all the local people eat as well, because that's just what we are excited about: experiencing the authentic regional food! We don't want to highlight this too much, but often we even bought another serving for hungry people in the street. Because for us, it's only a few cents, for them, it's a rare hot meal. What's more, we sometimes literally shared our own portion with them. So you see, also your argument of separating us from the society that we come to observe and interact with, is completely out of place. Concluding, I think veganism is quite the opposite of "mental illness". It means being aware of the impacts of your choices and assuming responsibility. By the way, we take mental illness very seriously and don't think it should ever be used as an insult. Always happy to help and to clarify things. Greetings, The Vegan Travelers

If you want some more aspects to think about, referring to veganism being "the ultimate form of white privilege", here is a rough translation of one video by "Der Artgenosse" (if you speak German, definitely check out his channel!: ru-vid.com/show-UC1LTWhnte4f7XrkLQvkdRug ): "We are in the position of not having to kill animals to survive, to stay healthy or to have something to wear. Isn’t it much more luxury to do such unnecessary things anyway? And isn’t it also luxury to do something that causes suffering, injustice and environmental damage although you do not have to, just because you want or can do it? To renounce something and not to do unnecessary things to not harm others is the opposite of luxury. We live in a society that is far from perfect, but in which we are lucky enough not to have to kill other people to ensure our survival. But there are also people who are forced to steal and cheat or even kill to survive. To deduce that honesty is a luxury disease would probably be very cynical for most people. It would be grotesque to say, "Because some people are forced to steal, I can steal and cheat" and call people who don’t, because they don’t have to, prosperity maggots. But when people refuse to kill animals because they do not have to, it is often reflexively tried to give them a bad conscience and the attempt to reduce the suffering of sentient beings branded as a supposed luxury problem. Simply put, the statement is: Because there are people who are not able to stand up for others as well, anyone who does it because he can is a simpleton who cares too much. Not too long ago, the "Sunday roast" was still considered a luxury. Today, you can even eat and buy meat everywhere and every day several times a day, and that's the standard. Meat has even become a lower classes food for us. Veganism is not a "problem" but a solution. In addition to trying to avoid suffering and injustice, veganism is a response to many of the problems that our affluent society and its associated luxury have created in the first place. Of course you will have to do much more, but a vegan lifestyle is dramatically more resource efficient, more sustainable, and more environmentally friendly than a comparable animal product. Through a vegan lifestyle, many people, for example, try to shoulder the responsibility that comes with the benefits of our extravagant, secure life and our power position. The term "luxury" comes from Latin and means "waste". It refers to behaviors that go beyond a necessary or meaningful measure. It is not necessary to eat meat, nor does it make sense if you think outside the box and look at the effects that livestock farming has on the environment. We humans are already using a lot more resources than are sustainably available. It is not luxury to refrain from doing it. On the contrary: Luxury is to consume animal products, a luxury we cannot afford anymore for a long time."

Thanks for your reply. I recommend that you familiarize yourself with the writings of Lierre Keith, radical feminist and former vegetarian, writer of book, "The Vegetarian Myth", which outlines the lack of sustainability (modern agriculture), and nutritionally deficient vegetarian diet, and the damage to the thyroid. Let's meet when we are 65 years old, and let's see who is healthier, happier, and more free of chronic and degenerative diseases. Best, Texagonia.
@TheVeganTravelers
@TheVeganTravelers 6 лет назад
Hi again, Thank you for your reply. I took a look at the book you recommended and I noticed two main points: 1. Concerning the lack of sustainability of modern agriculture: Whatever conclusion you draw from the disadvantages of modern agriculture, you'll have to multiply them by a giant number if you choose animal products over plant-based food. Why? Because vegan or vegetarian goods aren't the only ones that come from agriculture. Actually, the most part of agriculture serves as fodder for livestock: "Each year an estimated 41 million tons of plant protein is fed to U.S. livestock to produce an estimated 7 million tons of animal protein for human consumption." (source: news.cornell.edu/stories/1997/08/us-could-feed-800-million-people-grain-livestock-eat ) That means, you need a lot more of "modern agriculture" to get the same amount of animal products as you'd need for plant-based products. And also: The more animal products you choose to have in your diet, the worse the problem gets. And of course, most vegans know that modern agriculture isn't optimal, that's why we're actually trying to CHANGE something. And it's also why lots of vegans choose organic products. You might also want to read "Avoiding meat and dairy is ‘single biggest way’ to reduce your impact on Earth: Biggest analysis to date reveals huge footprint of livestock - it provides just 18% of calories but takes up 83% of farmland" by Damian Carrington, published 31 May 2018 in The Guardian: amp.theguardian.com/environment/2018/may/31/avoiding-meat-and-dairy-is-single-biggest-way-to-reduce-your-impact-on-earth 2. Concerning the "nutritionally deficient vegetarian diet": There are tons of studies which show the opposite. Let me show you just a few examples: - In 2013, Kaiser Permanente, one of the largest not-for-profit organizations in the United States, published a nutritional update for physicians. The first paragraph reads as follows: "The objective of this article is to present to physicians an update on plant-based diets. Concerns about the rising cost of health care are being voiced nationwide, even as unhealthy lifestyles are contributing to the spread of obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. For these reasons, physicians looking for cost-effective interventions to improve health outcomes are becoming more involved in helping their patients adopt healthier lifestyles. Healthy eating may be best achieved with a plant-based diet, which we define as a regimen that encourages whole, plant-based foods and discourages meats, dairy products, and eggs as well as all refined and processed foods. We present a case study as an example of the potential health benefits of such a diet. Research shows that plant-based diets are cost-effective, low-risk interventions that may lower body mass index, blood pressure, HbA1C, and cholesterol levels. They may also reduce the number of medications needed to treat chronic diseases and lower ischemic heart disease mortality rates. Physicians should consider recommending a plant-based diet to all their patients, especially those with high blood pressure, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, or obesity." (source: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3662288/ ) - They also published a booklet, in which you can find the following: "WHAT ARE THE HEALTH BENEFITS OF A PLANT-BASED DIET? • Lower cholesterol, blood pressure, and blood sugar. • Reversal or prevention of heart disease and diabetes. • Longer life. • Healthier weight. • Lower risk of developing cancer and diabetes. • May slow the progression of certain types of cancer. • Improved symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis. • Fewer medications. • Lower food costs. It’s also good for the environment." (source: share.kaiserpermanente.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/The-Plant-Based-Diet-booklet.pdf ) - Vegetarian, vegan diets and multiple health outcomes: A systematic review with meta-analysis of observational studies. "RESULTS: Eighty-six cross-sectional and 10 cohort prospective studies were included. The overall analysis among cross-sectional studies reported significant reduced levels of body mass index, total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, and glucose levels in vegetarians and vegans versus omnivores. With regard to prospective cohort studies, the analysis showed a significant reduced risk of incidence and/or mortality from ischemic heart disease (RR 0.75; 95% CI, 0.68 to 0.82) and incidence of total cancer (RR 0.92; 95% CI 0.87 to 0.98) but not of total cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, all-cause mortality and mortality from cancer. No significant association was evidenced when specific types of cancer were analyzed. The analysis conducted among vegans reported significant association with the risk of incidence from total cancer (RR 0.85; 95% CI, 0.75 to 0.95), despite obtained only in a limited number of studies." (source: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/26853923 ) - This one is really interesting and also applies to the first point: "Analysis and valuation of the health and climate change cobenefits of dietary change" by Marco Springmann, H. Charles J. Godfray, Mike Rayner, and Peter Scarborough: www.pnas.org/content/early/2016/03/16/1523119113 - "Oxford academic Dr Marco Springmann has attempted to model what a vegan planet would look like, especially as climate change, food shortages and population growth intensify. He projected that were the world to adopt a vegan diet by 2050, the global economy would benefit to the tune of $1.1tn savings in healthcare costs and environmental savings of $0.5tn and a cut in greenhouse gas emissions by two-thirds." (sources: www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2018/apr/01/vegans-are-coming-millennials-health-climate-change-animal-welfare ; www.oxfordtoday.ox.ac.uk/interviews/what-if-we-all-turned-vegan-2050 ) Furthermore, I would like to advise you to watch some movies about these issues: 1. "Cowspiracy", 2. "Forks Over Knives", 3. "What the Health". And if you want to dive deeper into the morals and ethics behind eating animal products, consider watching "Earthlings" as well. Kind regards, The Vegan Travelers
