Today we are going into the specifics of Egyptian chariot wheels. We compare real Egyptian chariot wheels with the one that was photographed by Ron Wyatt that he announced to the world in 1984.
* Correction: I said "step father" at timestamp 2:59 but should have said "father in law." I apologize for any confusion this might have caused.
Please note, that I am going to be in Egypt for the first few weeks of January 2021 with an eye towards leading tours on the Bible and Egypt with Tutku Tours. As I will be overwhelmed while in Egypt, I will not be as attentive to video comments as I normally am. I was in a bit of rush to get this video posted before leaving, so I apologize that the filming is a bit out of focus.

One slight mistake: SCUBA gear of the 1980s was perfectly capable of going to 200 feet. You just needed a bit of bravado and a lot of extra gear to handle failures. The biggest uncertainty for me is what camera housing he was using because those are depth limited. I find it odd that he didn't know what depth he found the wheel at. That's pretty poor practice to not document more precisely
@ancientegyptandthebible
@ancientegyptandthebible 3 года назад
Sure, but that's really the point. Wyatt did not have any of that extra gear. He was not a technical diver, did not have a dive computer, used ordinary air, and did not take the requisite decompression period. In short, the equipment and training that he had was not rated for a 200 ft dive, even if the area he claimed to be diving in was 200ft because it is actually much deeper in the spot where he claimed to dive. So the question is which part of Wyatt's story do we chose to believe? His compass? His bravodo and luck in avoiding the bends? Or none of it?

So forgive me again. I have only your presentation and Ron’s to consider so far. It seems to me that referring to this one wheel as “Wyatt’s wheel” disregards much of his presentation. Additionally, the part of his presentation being ignored seems to agree with you. If I recall correctly, he found one, or two, or a few hubs which would fit the description of “Yuya’s” wheel. Then, the extraordinary wheel in question was described as just that, clearly different. I believe he drew special attention to at least some of the differences. On top of that, you said that the Egyptians did experiment with different designs including 4 spoke, which seems to provide support to the idea that this wheel could belong to the same era, if it were remnants of the same wreckage. Another question that crops up in my mind is, What you would call “Ron’s wheel”. If it is not a wheel, what is it? And I think my last question pertains to preservation of relics. The wheel that you photographed was not 200 feet under salt water for any extended period of time, nor was it tossed about by crashing water on rocks? The wheel (and hub) you photographed and described, seems to me, like a perfect representation of the wheel he describes before it was destroyed, eroded, corroded by the time and trauma of the oceanic event. I am not wording this as concisely as I had hoped. I was up all night working in the ICU. He describes a wheel very similar to the one you photographed. If you took that wheel and placed it on a chariot that traversed that ground, in that period, under those circumstances, what would it look like now? Possibly the “hub” he found which has become coral reef? Again, your descriptions of findings does not seem to contradict what I saw in this particular video.
@factcheck1776
@factcheck1776 Год назад
This may have been said before, but I don't see any reason to think the Egyptians didn't have different wheel designs, either for different purposes or due to changes in the design over time. Wyatt's wheel looks more rugged and military to me, designed with the rigors of combat and negotiating rough terrain in battles at the edges of Egypt's empire. The other wheel looks more expensive and ceremonial. It's like the difference between a Humvee and a Rolls Royce. Or maybe the 4-spoke wheel was part of an earlier generation of design. Given that Egypt invented the idea of spoked wheels, it seems likely that they started with simpler, cruder designs and then improved upon them later. If Egypt originally built 600 chariots, they could have been around for a long time before the new wheel design came about. Would they just throw away the old chariots? Not likely. So both types of wheels may have existed contemporaneously. The only problem I see is the supposed gold overlay you mentioned, but I don't recall Wyatt saying the wheels were overlaid on the treads. Which brings up another question I have about your analysis. How long has it been known that Egypt had 6-spoke wheels? Was the wheel on the right known at the time Wyatt made his claims? If so, I have trouble believing that Wyatt supposedly went to all the trouble to forge a chariot wheel but then made it so different from what was already known about such wheels. It is in a forger's best interest to look up a picture of the thing he's forging, no? For that reason, I tend to think the difference makes it more believable.

There have been many people down there making videos of the land bridge that goes to a maximum depth of 900 feet with an easy descending and ascending grade length of 8 miles; which could easily have accommodated 2 million people.

When I look at the Yuya wheel it looks very much like it is built to drive. With the exception of perhaps the part which touches the ground. This part is out of wood and I'm not too sure how good of a grip it has (although the sand will help with the grip) and how long it can be driven until it is worn down. The thin but wide spokes look like they are stable and light. If you want to keep the momentum of the wheel then it is best to have all the weight in the rim, not the spokes. That's why thin spokes are preferable. The Wyatt wheel doesn't really look that well suited for driving. Everything looks heavy and clumsy. But judging purely from the form I can't guess what it is used for. So my conclusion is that it has to be for ritual purposes ;) I'm no mechanical engineer though, so I could be wrong. After finish watching the video my guesses weren't that wrong.

I know that Victorian times they had a steel band which was heated up and shrunk around the wheel. Heretical prayer: O Mother of Perpetual Help, thou art the dispenser of all the gifts which God grants to us miserable sinners; and for this end He has made thee so powerful, so rich, and so bountiful, in order that thou mayest help us in our misery. Thou art the advocate of the most wretched and abandoned sinners who have recourse to thee: come to my aid, for I recommend myself to thee. In thy hands I place my eternal salvation, and to thee I entrust my soul. Count me among thy most devoted servants; take me under thy protection, and it is enough for me. For, if thou protect me, I fear nothing; not from my sins, because thou wilt obtain for me the pardon of them; nor from the devils, because thou art more powerful than all hell together; nor even from Jesus, my judge, because by one prayer from thee He will be appeased. But one thing I fear: that in the hour of temptation I may through negligence fail to have recourse to thee and thus perish miserably. Obtain for me, therefore, the pardon of my sins, love for Jesus, final perseverance, and the grace ever to have recourse to thee, O Mother of Perpetual Help. This is a legit Roman Catholic prayer, look up "O Mother of Perpetual Help" if you want to know if it’s legit. This is super heretical. This doctrine of invoking departed saints doesn’t seem just like "hey it’s like praying to a friend.". . .

What about the dozens of other extant chariot wheels that have been discovered in Egypt? Why are they designed in the same way as Yuya's? The reason is simple. That design worked. The path from point to point (pillar to pillar} across the gulf was a fairy-boat crossing for many-many years. No doubt things were dumped along that path from time to time for whatever reason. Also, how big is Ron's wheel and why is it thought to be gold? There are so many alternative possibilities. @ANTI-ATHIESTS Okay, I got the photo direct from the Wyatt Archaeological Research. It is the best, highest resolution photograph available (660 x 330 pixels). That resolution is more than sufficient to accurate assess how that chariot wheel was made. Nevertheless, the problem with Wyatt's wheel is not that it has 4 spokes. That is just a red herring. The number of spokes really doesn't matter much. The actual problem is the overall design of the wheel. If you look closely at the 4-spoke wheel from Userhat, it looks more similar to the Yuya chariot wheel than it does to the Wyatt chariot wheel. That is a big, big problem.

There is no evidence that said pillar was engraved by Solomon. There is nothing in the Bible that says Solomon erected a pillar there at all. And all the evidence suggests that the pillar dates to the Roman period or later. So this is nothing more than a tall tale by Ron Wyatt. > 2. On the other side the rock at Horeb. The rock that Moses struck was at Kadesh, not Horeb (Num 20:1). This is gross ignorance of the Bible that Wyatt has gotten his gullible followers to believe. > 3. Mt. Sinai which matches all records of it's Biblical description., etc. No, it’s not. Exod 3:1 states that Moses pastured his flocks to the west side of the wilderness of Midian then came upon Mt Horeb. The wilderness of Midian is the eastern Sinai Peninsula. This means that Mount Horeb had to be west of the Gulf of Aqaba (modern Red Sea). Wyatt’s Mt Sinai in no way matches the Biblical description. In fact, the Bible uses well-known Egyptian place names that we can verify that shows that the Reed Sea was in the northwest Sinai. Therefore, we know that the real Mt Sinai had to be somewhere in the Sinai Peninsula and not the Arabian Peninsula. But hey, if you want to ignore the Bible to follow that false prophet Ron Wyatt, that’s your decision.

And everything fits perfectly with what has been recorded in Genesis. But what about the evidence that contradicts his identifications? > The 'Split Rock at Horeb... Were you aware that this is an interpretation that Wyatt added to his reading of Num 20:11? The Bible does not say anywhere that the rock was split. Furthermore, were you aware that according to the Bible this event took place at Kadesh, not Horeb (Num 20:1-14)? Wyatt's split rock is in the wrong place if it is near Horeb and is the rock Moses struck. Are we supposed to add to the Word of God or change what it says? > ...and the alter they placed the golden calf on has also been found... How do you know this was where the golden calf was place? How do you know it was even an altar? It looks nothing like an ancient altar. And how do you know that it dates to the time of the exodus and was ever used by the Israelites or for a golden calf? > plus the real Mt. Sinai How do you know his is the real Mt. Sinai? What makes this the "real" Mt. Sinai? > All these discoveries have been verified & validated by numerous researchers. How many of these researchers are actually qualified to make a verification? How many are hapless amateurs viewing this with eyes of faith? > The chariots etc, have long since disintegrated but God in his wisdom encrusted the wreckage in coral before it did so. This preserved the evidence for the appointed time for it to be revealed. Do you realize that the chariots would have disintegrated before those coral deposits would have formed? Once the leather straps holding carriage together were eaten away and the axle block split apart, there would have been nothing holding the two wheels apart. The entire chariot would have collapsed into a heap of rotting wood. Are you aware that coral deposits in nature take hundreds of years to form? > Only two people had gold chariot wheels the Pharaoh and the High Priest, so the gold chariot wheel that was found belonged to one or the other.. But what if the gold chariot wheel is a fake? Are you aware that no Egyptian chariot wheel ever looked like that? It's not even feasible as a chariot wheel. What's worse is that it is a bad fake, produced by someone who did not know how a chariot actually works and how a real chariot wheel is made or what it is even supposed to look like. > All this evidence that the Word of God is true can be viewed here on RU-vid. God's Word is true. But what Wyatt has done does not reflect what is true. We have already seen that Wyatt distorted the incident in Numbers 20. Wyatt has changed what the Bible says about the physical geography of the Exodus route, presented a forgery as a true chariot wheel, and even lied about where he was when he took his photographs. So if Wyatt is not telling the truth, how can we take what he says as evidence for God's Word? By using this Wyatt's work as proof for the Bible, those RU-vid videos open the Bible up to easy ridicule by its critics.

Yes, it does seem like a forgery. . However, the question is worth asking: if we give Wyatt the benefit of the doubt and assume he's telling the truth, what is it? . I would still doubt it's a real chariot wheel. My guess would be that it was a ceremonial gold-plated mockup of a wheel which was dropped into the sea in memory of someone who died at sea (which is something that happened in the exodus, but also in random naval battles and accidents).

The Egyptians made models of various things. Most were very small and would not have been confused for a real chariot wheel. The other problems are that this looks nothing like an Egyptian chariot wheel and so-called chariot wheel has evidence of modern industrial processes. It's definitely modern even if we assume that Wyatt was telling the truth about what he found. On the other hand, he wasn't telling the truth about other aspects of the account, such as, where he was when he found it. When he lied about other things, can we really extend him the benefit of the doubt that he's telling the truth since he's a self-impeached witness? Regrettably, given what we know of both the evidence and the account, the best explanation is that he is lying. I know our instinct is to go out on a limb to avoid slandering other believers, especially when they seem so genuine. The problem is good con-men have to seem genuine to be persuasive, and the mentally ill (via delusion or sociopathy) can appear genuine because they don't know or don't care to know better. None of these situations are good reasons for the church to set aside it's discernment. Con-men and those with these kinds of mental illness should not be in a position where they are authoritatively teaching. And it is the shame of Christian leadership that more has not been done to protect the flock from these predators.

So, just because Yuya's wheel had six spokes, in no way means that the 1000s of Egyptian military chariots did not have hardier wheels with less spokes as there have been found military industrial camps in ancient Egypt where chariots were built in large enough quantities to support a military of 30k men. Including 1000s of chariots. As well as training facilities. Did you check to compare that military chariots had the same number of, seemingly thin, spokes as what one should safely assume would be a high end and more advanced chassis of a royal's chariot? If it turns out that the military chariot had four spokes, which I don't know what they looked like do you? Then Yuya's chariot is irrelevant to the discussion. Also, most likely, Yuya's chariot was probably of a higher quality. Your average chariot soldier is NOT going to get gold laden super wheels. Their chariot should be more rugged, and by rugged I also mean cheaper to build. Whereas I would assume Yuya's would be a craftsman's best workmanship for sport and hunting. A military chariot is going to be built for endurance over rugged terrain and battlefield maneuvers. So, you seem to be attacking the opposition's claim based on the metal content of the four-spoke wheel. The economy of the wheel which is a fantastic point. And later on, you say that they did in fact experiment with 4, 6, and 8 spoke wheels. Chances are likely, as Wyatt was in and out and not conducting the most careful analysis. So, the two best examples which you highlight, are from the 18th dynasty that drove out the Hyksos under Ahmose 1. That is also around the time these military training sites they found were from. The question is, if the Exodus happened, it was likely under Ahmose 2, and after his much more notable father Thutmosis 3 who represented the height of Egyptian military prowess. So, the question is (I doubt the Al Nuweiba transit somewhat), did Egyptian military chariots have four spokes or did Wyatt mistranslate. One argument I see against this is obvious, WOOD FLOATS! Including 1000s of chariots. As well as training facilities. Straw man fallacy. I don’t know why Wyatt fans fixate on the number of spokes, when I never mention once the number of spokes being a problem. THE PROBLEM IS HOW THE AXLE ASSEMBLY (THE HUB) AND HOW THE ENTIRE WHEEL WAS DESIGNED. You might be a military veteran, but you really have no idea how a chariot actually works, do you? > Did you check to compare that military chariots had the same number of, seemingly thin, spokes as what one should safely assume would be a high end and more advanced chassis of a royal's chariot? We have many scenes of chariot warfare from ancient Egypt. In those scenes, the standard chariot was the six-spoke chariot-there is no evidence that any sort of special heavy wheel was in use, let alone a wheel that would be so impractical for chariotry as the one found by Wyatt. And every chariot wheel found to date has thin spokes and a hub that uses ferules and a long tube for the axle. > If it turns out that the military chariot had four spokes, which I don't know what they looked like do you? Then Yuya's chariot is irrelevant to the discussion. Hypothetical fallacy. But yes, we do know what military chariots looked like. We have many examples of extant chariot wheels, not just Yuya’s. Examples of military chariot wheels have been recovered from the moats outside of military fortresses. And we have learned that all chariots in ancient Egypt were made as weapons of war. This civilian use vs military use distinction is an anachronism that didn’t exist in ancient Egypt. Chariot wheels are a common find in Egypt. Common enough that they are displayed in many museums. The design of their axle assemblies is the same across the board. Yuya’s chariot is simply one well-preserved example of chariot technology that is contemporary with Wyatt’s wheel. But we find the same technology being used across all Egyptian chariot wheels. Wyatt’s chariot wheel is a stupid, amateurish forgery-nothing more. > Also, most likely, Yuya's chariot was probably of a higher quality. Your average chariot soldier is NOT going to get gold laden super wheels. Their chariot should be more rugged, and by rugged I also mean cheaper to build. That makes no sense if what you’re saying is true. Yuya’s chariot has little gold except on the carriage. The wheels of Yuya’s chariot have no gold on the spokes or tread, and only thin gold foil that covers the bronze axle assembly. Wyatt’s wheel has gold everywhere: the hub, the spokes, and the tread-no chariot was ever made like this. If Yuya’s chariot is the superior chariot, why does Wyatt’s chariot wheel have more gold on it than even on any of the SIX SURVIVING CHARIOTS of from the tomb of King Tutankhamun? That is unless Wyatt’s wheel is not covered in real gold and the wheel is a fake. > Whereas I would assume Yuya's would be a craftsman's best workmanship for sport and hunting. A military chariot is going to be built for endurance over rugged terrain and battlefield maneuvers. Wyatt’s wheel is completely unsuitable as a chariot wheel. It is a wheel design would feel every bump in the road and wobble uncontrollably. Stop being ridiculous. It’s not built for endurance or rugged terrain-it is designed to dupe the gullible and credulous. > So, you seem to be attacking the opposition's claim based on the metal content of the four-spoke wheel. No, I’m not. I am attacking the opposition’s claim based upon the design of the wheel: a design that never existed in antiquity, a design that would be completely impractical as a functional chariot wheel, and a design that is inconsistent with the technology and construction techniques of the time. > The economy of the wheel which is a fantastic point. And later on, you say that they did in fact experiment with 4, 6, and 8 spoke wheels. Again, number of spokes is not the point. The design of the wheel is the point. Please, don’t be obtuse. > Chances are likely, as Wyatt was in and out and not conducting the most careful analysis. He probably made wrong assumptions about the wheels. Often, as much as he got right, he got as much or more wrong. What happens when an "archeologist" is in a hurry I'm afraid. Wyatt was no "archaeologist." He was a con-artist who planted fake artifacts in order to fool the people who were funding his expeditions. That is also around the time these military training sites they found were from. The question is, if the Exodus happened, it was likely under Ahmose 2, and after his much more notable father Thutmosis 3 who represented the height of Egyptian military prowess. I’m not sure what you are driving at here, except that I think you are very confused about your Egyptian history. The successor of Thutmosis III was Amenhotep II, not Ahmose II. Ahmose II was not even king until the 6th century BC. And all the evidence we have from the Bible and historical evidence suggests that the exodus took place during the reign of Ramesses II, not Amenhotep II. > So, the question is (I doubt the Al Nuweiba transit somewhat), did Egyptian military chariots have four spokes or did Wyatt mistranslate. False dichotomy fallacy. One, the number spokes is a straw man. I’m not making the claim that Egyptian chariots didn’t have four spokes. Second, Wyatt mistranslating is not the only option. Wyatt could have intentionally been trying to deceive his funders, his viewers, and you. > One argument I see against this is obvious, WOOD FLOATS! What is the relevance of this to a drowning event? > However, if Al Nuweiba did receive an epic miracle of two 900 foot walls of water. That’s an epic miracle that requires other miracles to support and is impossible given that the Bible claims a wind from the east drive the waters apart (Exod 14:21). No wind of that speed (3000 kph) has ever existed on this planet, and such wind speeds are only comparable to the conditions found on Neptune. Why bother drowning Pharaoh’s army when they could be simply blown away? Or pick up enough sand in the wind to strip all the flesh off of their bones? Are you really that naïve? > When they collapsed, could they have pushed as much as 10% of the chariots deep into the sea silt? That is all assuming the impossibility of said miracle occurring at Nuweiba. @@ancientegyptandthebible So, if you read the text carefully, the wind was most likely to dry the sand for walking over a 24 hr period before they could go. The wind was not what was holding the waters back. The text, considering ancient hebrew's limited amount of words and their usage, it was God's Hand over the waters, not the wind. The wind was for drying the sand. There would be ZERO, NONE, NO naturalistic way for the waters to part. Also, I'm not a Wyatt fan. Never said I as. I never said or intoned he was an archeologist. He clearly angers you. Wyatt is clearly wrong where the crossing would have had to happen. There are several points where Nuweiba would allow a few to escape. But, to it's South, the mountain range goes to the sea. The wall that turned them back is South of it. They would have eventually been trapped between the Egyptian Army going around their own territory the "Sinai Peninsula" was at that time as today. And the Strait leading into the sea of Aqaba. So, how did they cross? The text largely seems to refuse most of Wyatt's claims. In regard to the wheels, I was asking you an honest question as I was curious. Did Wyatt actually say they were all golden leafed wheels with four spokes or was he just showing that the coral at Al Nuweiba were "wheel shaped." You see, I was curious about that detail. You fixate on the image, and I was curious if you were arguing his actual point. Or just taking a cheap shot at his lazy research. It seems Wyatt really ticks you off. Especially for you to go off like that over an image in his video. So, I agree. His wheel is flawed. And considering I discredit Nuweiba as the site, it really doesn't matter to me. Also, wood and dead bodies after several days FLOAT! Also, your claim of Ramses II being the Exodus king is hilarious! It is now easier to discover that the Hyksos city of Avaris was where the Hebrews were during Joesph's day. Later writers changed the name as the city's title changed during Ramses II's time. In no way does it prove Ramses II was the Exodus pharaoh. And considering all the references to Israel, and the amount of time throughout Egyptian hieroglyphs. Ramses II is too late for the time it would take for them to get established in where they settled. There is zero chance Ramses II is the Exodus pharaoh. It was Amenhotep II. Amenhotep II first born didn't make it. His successor's stele between the Sphinx's paws confirms that he didn't survive. The Ipuwer papyrus predates Ramses II by the exact amount of time. Manetho is alleged to have written it happened during the time in question. It really seems like you are just trying to undermine the story because it defies your naturalistic point of view. I'm guessing you also discount the Big Bang, yes? Anything that suggests all of reality has a causal agent, and not the creation of mindless and blind natural forces is a problem for you. Full disclosure, to be fair, I'm an Old Earth Believer. Genesis and Exodus to me were written under the Sumerian influence, so some of the writing styles, and the Hebrew language as written, are difficult to interpret. And there is ample evidence for the Exodus during the 18th dynasty. Not Ramses the II. Ramses II in NO WAY lines up with the story as written. Amenhotep II absolutely does! And to be fair, Egyptians have been proven to not write about their losses. The way you argue it, strongly suggests that you don't take the account seriously, because it suggests miracles happen. So, you accept the later date at face value.
