My wife's grandma gave me a start of these. She called them "Tree Onions". I like to keep the main "mother group" undisturbed, and replant the bulbs in the late summer, early fall for some of the biggest green onions you'll ever see(much bigger than store bought) the next year. These things have survived cold, heat, droughts and floods. If there is ever a survival plant, this is it!

I have to say, all hope is not lost if they do dry out. I once clipped one off and put it in a cabinet and forgot about it. Months later they had all sprouted green tops, just like garlic would if you left it too long. Planted them and they grew like crazy.

I love your walking onion videos. Im growing them for the first time. My question is, can I take one leaf off at a time while they are growing, to consume.... and if so, how do I know that I got the right one? Im concerned that I will get the one onion leaf that produces the baby onions. Or does each "stem" produce babies on the one plant? Hope this makes sense. I dont have an abundance of onions so Im trying to keep them growing. Thank you !

Today I saw another walking onion video and husband and I are adding a raised bed for them. I also placed an order today for more and my garlic, both will be shipped in the fall. I wanted to see what you thought about something. We have burdock, plantain, dandelion and comfrey growing in abundance with other nutritious weeds. Green leaves are perfect they all grow a little different don’t worry about the top sets that comes later usually only once or twice a year depending on your climate. Just do not pull the whole thing out to eat just trim off the side green leaves and use that to eat they will continue to grow the more you trim the more they grow. They should start to produce the bulbs pretty soon.
